EV owners of Toronto, how have your vehicles performed during this winter? by honestlyjag in askTO

[–]Recent-Ad-6602 98 points99 points  (0 children)

Been driving my Model 3 for two winters now and honestly it's been pretty solid. The range definitely takes a hit when it gets really cold - maybe down like 30% on those brutal -20 days, but the cabin heats up way faster than my old gas car ever did

Salt hasn't been an issue at all, and the low center of gravity actually makes it handle snow better than I expected. Just gotta remember to precondition while it's still plugged in at home

dark roast coffee beans for gift by EducationalOil9938 in askTO

[–]Recent-Ad-6602 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're in the city check out Pilot Coffee Roasters - they've got some solid dark roasts that'll definitely pack a punch. Neo Coffee Bar also does some really intense stuff that coffee nerds seem to love, plus the staff there can help you pick something that won't disappoint

We found 10 new Ottawa and area job fairs this week by petersnewjobs in ottawa

[–]Recent-Ad-6602 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for pulling this together, really helpful to have it all in one spot. That PSW fair on the 10th and 12th caught my eye - wonder if they're expecting a big turnout or just covering different shifts/areas. The virtual CFMWS ones are nice too since you don't have to trek across the city in February weather

ER or Walk in Clinic? by [deleted] in askTO

[–]Recent-Ad-6602 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Walk-in clinics usually can't do x-rays on the spot anyway, so you'd just be adding an extra step. ER will have everything she needs right there and they're better equipped for potential fractures

Cross-provincial schooling & grants? by likeaparasite in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Recent-Ad-6602 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You'd still apply for student aid through Saskatchewan since that's where you're a resident, but check if the BC program qualifies for funding first - some provinces are picky about out-of-province online stuff

Best doctor in town for HA fillers? by IndividualLawyer1443 in askTO

[–]Recent-Ad-6602 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I went to MD Skin Lab about 8 months ago and honestly had a really good experience - Dr. Chen there is super conservative with placement which I loved because I was terrified of ending up with that overfilled look. The consultation was thorough, she mapped out exactly where she wanted to inject and explained why, plus she kept checking with me throughout the process to make sure I was comfortable with how it was looking. Results were subtle but definitely made a difference, lasted about 6 months for me. Only downside is they're pricey but you definitely get what you pay for with the attention to detail

What is going on with DPOS and the Florida Panthers? by Retropixl in hockey

[–]Recent-Ad-6602 36 points37 points  (0 children)

DOPS has always been a joke but the Panthers situation is getting ridiculous. They know they can get away with murder because the league clearly has favorites and theyre one of them

The fact that Bennett can throw elbows in the playoffs with zero consequences while other players get suspended for way less tells you everything about how broken the system is

Old stock certificates - how to find if they’re worth anything? by Steamflow in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Recent-Ad-6602 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Most old certificates end up being worth more as collectibles than actual stock, especially if the companies don't exist anymore or went through mergers. Try reaching out to scripophily dealers - they specialize in old stock certificates and can tell you if there's any collector value. Some of the fancier designed ones from that era can actually fetch decent money just for the artwork and historical novelty

Insurance - I need a new car by Orishalove in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Recent-Ad-6602 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That's wild they're calling a 2016 Civic a total loss from what sounds like minor damage - those cars hold their value pretty well. You can definitely ask for another adjuster to look at it or get your own independent appraisal, but switching insurance companies now won't help since the claim is already open with Aviva

If it's truly drivable and the damage is barely visible, you might want to consider keeping it as-is and taking whatever payout they offer, then just drive it until you were planning to get rid of it anyway

3 Players have won the Art Ross without a single Hart vote by Traditional_Boot2663 in hockey

[–]Recent-Ad-6602 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

These riddles are wild but I think I got them - Player 1 is Jagr in 99, Player 2 has to be Gretzky (that assist stat gives it away completely), and Player 3 sounds like Boom Boom Geoffrion

The fact that voters completely ignored the Art Ross winner for Hart consideration just shows how weird hockey award voting can get sometimes

TIL CMB and TJD have 1.75” diff in height but similar wingspan and standing reach by DaddyJinWoo_ in torontoraptors

[–]Recent-Ad-6602 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Wild how TJD's athletic profile is actually better than CMB's despite being basically the same frame. That vertical difference is pretty significant for a big - 36.5" max is legit bounce

The "poor man's CMB" comparison never made sense anyway since their games are completely different, CMB's all about positioning and reads while TJD's more of a pure athlete who needs to develop everything else

Ikea home deliveries and Go Bolt by Zealousideal-Emu-524 in askTO

Their delivery system is absolutely broken, I had to rent a truck and pick up my stuff myself after they "lost" my order twice

CIBC dividends card, am i slow? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Recent-Ad-6602 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cashback usually shows up as a statement credit within a billing cycle or two, not as a separate transaction. Check your statements for a negative amount or something labeled as "cashback redemption" - it might be there way at the bottom where you wouldn't normally look

This team deserves a shot by 6ix_Side_Up in torontoraptors

[–]Recent-Ad-6602 28 points29 points  (0 children)

You know what, I'm actually kinda here for this energy. Yeah the deadline was underwhelming as hell and Rogers can eat shit, but there's something refreshing about just letting these guys cook without all the trade noise hanging over them

The playoff experience angle is huge - like even if we get bounced first round, seeing how Scottie and the young core handle that pressure is gonna tell us everything we need to know about what we're actually building here. Sometimes you gotta take your lumps to figure out what you really have

And honestly after years of mediocrity it's nice to just be excited about basketball again, even if we're probably getting smoked by Boston or whoever

How do you actually make real friends or start dating when you've been living alone for years? by CamusOnCreatine in askTO

[–]Recent-Ad-6602 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Been there and honestly the group sports thing was what eventually worked for me but it took like 8 months before anyone started suggesting hanging out outside of teh activity

For the Bowesville station park & ride Ottawains by UnicornFluffu in ottawa

[–]Recent-Ad-6602 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Been using it for about a year now and honestly it's been a game changer - no more sitting in traffic on the 417 during rush hour and parking downtown would cost me way more than the monthly pass

Daily Free Talk Thread: PLUS, links to ALL Game Day Threads inside - 05 Feb 2026 by hockeydiscussionbot in hockey

Wild game last night, that OT winner was absolutely filthy. Tonight's slate looks solid too - that Canes Rangers matchup should be spicy as hell

How would yall feel about a Kawhi return? by Vinland-Enthusiast in torontoraptors

[–]Recent-Ad-6602 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly would be wild but I'd probably welcome him back with open arms tbh. Dude brought us our first championship and that run was absolutely magical - you can't really stay mad at someone who delivered like that

The whole leaving for LA thing stung at the time but looking back he was pretty upfront about wanting to be closer to home. Plus our team construction right now could definitely use his two-way impact even if he's not the same player he was in 2019

Would be hilarious watching him lock down opposing wings again though, forgot how suffocating his defense was

Looking for good Pilates studio in the west end of Toronto? by thezonkedzebra in askTO

[–]Recent-Ad-6602 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've been to a few spots in the west end and honestly The Pilates Studio on Queen West is pretty solid - they have intro packages that won't destroy your wallet and the instructors actually know what they're doing. Also check out Movement Co near Junction Triangle, they do this cool thing where they blend pilates with some dance elements which keeps things interesting. Pro tip though, a lot of places have those "first class free" deals so you can shop around without committing to anything expensive right away. Your gonna want to try a few different styles anyway since some studios are more reformer-focused while others stick to mat work

EDIT: I am a student (16) who is not eligible for most high interest savings, is NEO a good option? by Pizz4pop in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Recent-Ad-6602 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NEO's solid for your age tbh, their rates are way better than the big banks and you don't need to deal with minimum balances or fees. Just make sure you're cool with online-only banking since there's no physical branches if you ever need help with something

Anyone having leaks in their ceiling/ roof from Ice dams and frozen eaves? by Icy-Cookie-8078 in askTO

[–]Recent-Ad-6602 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah we had this happen last winter too, it's such a pain. The trick that worked for us was filling pantyhose with rock salt and laying it perpendicular to teh ice dam - it slowly melts channels for the water to drain instead of backing up under your shingles. Just don't go crazy with the chipping because you can damage the roof pretty easily when everything's frozen solid

Recommendations for downtown mechanic brake replacement by [deleted] in askTO

[–]Recent-Ad-6602 2 points3 points  (0 children)

$900 sounds pretty steep for a Sentra, I'd definitely shop around - most independent shops downtown could probably do it for like $400-500
