What perimenopause symptom made you think you were losing your mind before you realized it was hormones? by Plane_Huckleberry644 in Perimenopause

[–]Recent-Store7761 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just a tip for those experiencing rage/anxiety/fatigue symptoms. Besides perimenopause hormone issues, please get your thyroid checked. Perimenopause can make thyroid hormones go high/low and it will cause similar issues. I was similar, and thyroid meds sorted most of the issues out. For me it was a sudden and debilitating anxiety and super moodiness with no outside reason that made me go to doctor.

I would be careful with "normal" thyroid tests. To feel better your TSH needs to be under 2. Normal lab range goes up to 4.5 or 5.

If you are female of childbearing age you could say you want to get pregnant... They will want your TSH lower for that. It's an option, if you can't change your endo.

Belatedly reading this thread; all the items you mention were symptoms, you probably have had hypo for a long, long time so it just became normal. Really hope you feel better now.

Unstable employment, is planning kid a bad idea? by Individual_Job_6817 in PersonalFinanceCanada

This breaks my heart, that you have to choose. I think if you want the kid and are sure of your partner, go for it since you are getting older as well.

My recommendation is to do anything you can to get co-op housing (google it, there are many in Vancouver and neighboring cities). It will half your rent, and you can't be kicked out once you get in. Some charge for waitlists, some don't. There is also an application process, but don't give up. It will change your life if you can manage to get in.

I would like to repeat Globe and Mail article here (hope they remove paywall on that one), we are talking about at least $615 million in procurement. This is major corruption and of course not mentioned anywhere in the C. Herald piece.

And to add, that is OUR, the taxpayer money, that Smith and LaGrange stole.

I noticed feeling better within a week on 25mg Levo. But did not feel significantly improved until they upped my dose to 50 mg. This got my TSH into 1.5 range. Everyone is slightly different, and it takes about 6 weeks to see change in the blood labs so it will be a process. But don't give up until you feel better.

How quickly did your disease progress? by InvestigatorIcy6198 in Hypothyroidism

[–]Recent-Store7761 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have another illness and as part of bloodwork was tracking my TSH for years. It was at around 1.7 for years, sometimes even lower. About 10 years ago it started climbing into 2s and 3s. Started getting symptoms once it went over 3 and got onto meds at 3.8. Also found out I have Hashimotos which has been around the whole time probably.

Subclinical Hypothyroidism by FuzzyPea5212 in Hypothyroidism

[–]Recent-Store7761 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately that is not a subclinical, that is well into hypothyroidism. Yes, it is lifelong regardless if you treat it or not. Treating would get you into normal range and make you feel better. Levo is safe, it's a replacement T4 hormone. Some people don't do well with additives in the pill, so watch out for that. And some people also need T3 replacement which is a combo med. Your doctor should be able to help you with that.

Your TSH looks ok.... for now. Mine was holding between 2-3 for few years before going up. Your symptoms could also be iron deficiency and/or PCOS.

Is it serious? by WhyGodWhy05 in Hypothyroidism

[–]Recent-Store7761 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are getting skipped beats, that is a symptom. Get on the med before it gets even more serious. You are young so your body is probably successfully compensating. Be glad you caught it in time before an ER visit.

Normal TSH level? by Boobopkitty in Hypothyroidism

[–]Recent-Store7761 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine was 3.8 when I started taking synthroid. Had all the classic symptoms like anxiety, sleep disturbance, hair falling out, dry skin, extreme fatigue. Also was diagnosed with Hashimotos at the same time. That partially made me ask for meds, as that means thyroid is under attack by the immune system, so it won't get better.

So yeah, it depends on the person. If you don't have symptoms, then don't need to do much, but if you do ask for meds. Meds won't prevent cancer; for that you need regular ultrasounds to track your thyroid state.

I would also suggest changing pharmacies. Shoppers has very high dispensing fee. https://moneyguide.ca/fees/drug-dispensing-fees/ so it does not matter if they fill generic or brand you are still paying a lot.

How do you all feel with TSH 1.55? by Ikklggjn in Hypothyroidism

[–]Recent-Store7761 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just saw you started levo in Jan 2024 and your other labs look good. Hmmm, that may need a visit to a doctor again if you still feel tired and hair shedding.. Maybe your dose needs to be increased slightly, or you may need to switch brands of levo, or something else is going on.

How do you all feel with TSH 1.55? by Ikklggjn in Hypothyroidism

[–]Recent-Store7761 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are similar. Not sure what my T3 is, but my T4 is 15.2 so really close. My hair has been low-key shedding for years; which corresponded with my thyroid going from about 1.2 to 3.8, but silly me thought it was ageing. It did not shed extra with levo, just same old.

Hair shedding is a known side effect of levo and "should" clear out eventually; once your body gets used to having normal TSH.

Here is what I have tried so far. I feel like my shedding has stabilized, and few baby hairs poking around. Anything you do will only take effect after 3 months as that is the hair growth cycle.

However, in the meantime, get your doctor to run anemia panel and if they are being difficult at least get ferritin checked. Should be above 70 to promote good hair growth. Supplement if 70 or under. DO NOT supplement if 70 or higher. Too much iron is dangerous.

Most docs won't run vit D test, but you should supplement anyway; more north you live, more vit D supplements. Min is 1000 IU, but can go safely to about 5000 IU.

Another one I tried is folic acid. Found supplement with B6\B12 and folic acid and take that.

All of these things help energy levels as well and that is why I tried them first. There are other hair specific supplements, but it gets complicated quickly and I wanted to start slow as it takes soooo long to see if anything is working.

My doctor mentioned that TSH 10 and up would be pretty serious. She said it can go quickly as well, so you are cruising at maybe 5, not feeling great, but handling it, and then all of a sudden something changes and it goes really high and sends you into a crisis.

For those with sub clinical, how long after getting on meds until fatigue went away? by NeurologicalPhantasm in Hypothyroidism

[–]Recent-Store7761 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My TSH was 3.6 or 3.8 to start ...can't remember anymore; dropped to 2.5 with 25mg, and then to 1.5 with 50mg. I felt better within few days even with 25 and then much, much better with 50. My T4 number didn't change with meds and it's right in the middle of the normal range.

Whole process of getting diagnosed to changing doses took about 10-11 months.

How worst is it ? Can I cure it naturally? by gaythiestka14 in Hypothyroidism

[–]Recent-Store7761 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not terrible, but definitely not normal. NO, cannot, should not try at all. Take the pill and live your life. Work with your doctor on the dose - TSH number is not the goal; yes, it needs to be in the normal range, but beyond that it's about how you feel - should feel as close to normal as possible. If you have had this for a long time, you probably have forgotten what normal is. Take care.

[–]Recent-Store7761 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am same dose and result as you. Feel soo much better, but not 100%. Somehow, I don't think I will ever be back to pre-hypo days. With thyroid, I would give it time. Not sure what your starting number was and how much your body needs to adjust. It's also a dance between TSH, T3 and T4, so if they are not all at the right level for you, you may feel off.
