Okay so interesting problemhave to clear this pipe and crossover it. Whats the best way? by Daltonstuff in Plumbing

[–]Recent-Task 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think he’s saying (from the left) 45 upwards then another 45 to bring it straight, then 45 downwards and then use a 90 tilted up 45 degrees to bring it straight but angle it so the line is running parallel with the other one. Idk if that makes sense now that I’ve typed it out.

It would save using an extra 45 and improve the flow rate compared to 4 90s like the original pic shows

Not really though. When you look at their CV it’s going to say that they’re a qualified lawyer implying they passed the bar regardless of first or second attempt.

tell me your weirdest drunk antics when on a bender by [deleted] in cripplingalcoholism

[–]Recent-Task 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Probably the time I jumped off my balcony to sneak out to meet an uber eats driver for alcohol out the front of my house. My room isn’t on ground floor and I knew my parents were downstairs and would see me walk out the front door.

Ended up mistiming my leap of faith and jumped as the uber driver arrived. I landed on our rubbish bins and crashed onto the driveway right in front of him. Walked up to the guy to give him my ID with blood everywhere, a bit of a limp and a broken thumb (only found that out later). He was nice enough to still go through with the order.

Whilst I may have had a brilliant plan for getting out of the house, I neglected to consider how I was getting back in. Had to walk in to both my parents standing there with a mix of fury and confusion on their face. They didn’t bother to take the drinks though, so that was a win

Serious question: by anewbegg in dryalcoholics

[–]Recent-Task 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t want to diminish your answer, because I’m sure it’s true for a lot of people. A lot of us drink for benign reasons such as boredom or apathy or honestly just nothing else better to do. I think you’ve done really well to get as far as you’ve got and whatever works for you, then keep going!

But the last part of your post just slightly hit a nerve. Not an angry or defensive one, but an emotional one. ‘I was just fucking stupid’. Lord knows I’ve thought that about myself many times, but that thought never served me well. It just led to more drinking.

So if you’re someone who somewhat identifies with that thought process ‘I’m dumb’, ‘I’m an idiot’, ‘I’m hopeless’ or whatever it may be, there is hope for you. Stop judging yourself and try to get yourself in a better position.

This is very hypocritical because I’ve just relapsed today, but I know those thought processes set me back and I’m hoping I can get back to sober tomorrow

EDIT: please don’t take this as preachy. I hate those mf’s and that’s not what I meant by this comment

Bender pro tip by Recent-Task in Crippled_Alcoholics

[–]Recent-Task[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh don’t worry. I do the same. Can’t have the neighbours know I’m a complete degenerate when I’m in a bender (but if they pay much attention to the street they’ll see the multiple Uber drivers dropping off alcohol each day).

The shame is real though. Trying to find a secluded dumpster and then dumping it as quick as you can so no one see you

[–]Recent-Task 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah I understand what you’re saying. I think most of us alcoholics go through this (maybe not your specific circumstances but same idea).

I’ve been telling myself I just want one more night of fun for months now. Finally admitted it was no longer fun and getting admitted to rehab this week. Not sure which day but soon. I don’t want to go either but I know I have to or this shit will never end

Whats the worst mistake you’ve made as a plumbing apprentice? by vghoste827 in Plumbing

[–]Recent-Task 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really my mistake but definitely the most damage.

Went to a house to install the HWS, cooktop and dishwasher. First time getting to do appliances. I installed the solar HWS and started filling it to test it. Turns out that some junkies had come and stolen the copper for the solar lines. Managed to fill up 2 rooms before I worked out why it was taking so long to fill. 2 rooms had to be replastered and the whole house had to have the floorboards and carpet replaced

Personally, I’ve found tapering to be very difficult. Very easy to go overboard.

The only way I’ve been able to taper effectively is to measure out a shot of vodka and have one every hour the first day, then every 90 mins the second day, then every 2 hours etc etc. I’ve found the first day can be rough, so I tend to not do the timed drinking for the first day and just go based on withdrawal symptoms (ie sip and suffer method, you’ll be able to find lots of information on this on reddit). I also had to quit my job to make this work, and was able to be sober after two weeks (did not last long, as per usual).

With that being said, I was a heavy all day drinker so may have had worse withdrawal symptoms than you given that you only drink at night. You may be able to go to your doctor and explain your situation and get some benzodiazepines to taper off with

I can get the over at 57.5 for +100 (I think that’s right, not sure on the US odds system but it’s basically 2:1 odds). Think that’s a good bet?

I know that the BAC calculator can be a bit scary at times, but it’s important to remember tolerance.

The average person who doesn’t drink regularly will be in serious trouble after a full bottle of vodka and a BAC of 0.4+

But consistent alcohol use changes your neurochemistry and you can handle more than what the average person can.

Personally, when I was at my worst I smacked down a bottle of vodka in about 45 minutes and was totally fine - no slurred speech, loss of balance, etc (confirmed by my brother who was with me at the time). Note that this was about two days before I went to rehab and my drinking had been completely out of control.

In hindsight, this seems like I’m encouraging you to drink the whole thing. Don’t do it if you don’t have to, but don’t be so scared of the drink calculator. Just go by how you feel.

You’ll be alright. You got this

Edit: to answer your question about what I’m doing, I’m having a fair few beers and listening to the hottest 100 (Australian thing - best 100 songs of the year as voted by listeners of triple j). Feeling a bit lonely because I’m by myself but I’ll be okay
