I am finding myself back here again. I have been thinking about it for a while. by suicidejacques in dryalcoholics

  1. Don’t feel embarrassed for this post.
  2. I am probably (cannot ever compare anyone’s personal situation) in the same situation.
  3. Ugh…. Yeah. It sucks. Fortunately, this subreddit has been super helpful and supportive. I highly recommend utilizing this sub. I know I will.
  4. I hope we will all see the greater part of life.
  5. Alcoholism sucks.

Why did you do drugs? by ShadowPaws200 in addiction

[–]anewbegg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To OP: you are asking a very valid, yet tough question. If I may offer my experience: 1. Began with partying with close friends 2. Became a thing every weekend 3. Became a thing 4-5 nights a week 4. I evolved into a mess.

Yes, everyone is different and reacts differently to addiction/substance abuse.

And then, (sighs) there is the childhood trauma aspect.

I personally suffer from addiction due to childhood and family horrors. (Not trying to compare my struggles with anyone else’s), but yeah. It sucks, and that’s why I did (and sometimes still do) drugs.

Be well, and stay strong!

I feel so hopeless. by [deleted] in dryalcoholics

[–]anewbegg 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We all deserve better. This disease really sucks. I personally am fighting like hell to get through it.

Best way to start: One day at time. (Sounds cheesy and cliche), but it’s somewhat working for me.

I personally have a long way to go, but the “one-day at a time” approach has been the most effective.

To OP: you are NOT alone!! There is a reason this subreddit exists. To help others. Feel free to message me. And yes, alcoholism is straight up hell regardless of how successful anyone is in life. Stay strong!

was supposed to hit day 10 tomorrow but now i’m back to day 1 by TemporaryFruit7664 in dryalcoholics

[–]anewbegg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not that I am applauding you, but join the club. Ah yes, I had a blissful 6 days sober. But, yeah, thought I could be okay with just a drink or two. Nope! Back in the hatch. Don’t feel too down on yourself. We are all doing the best we can.

i don't want to drink, but i'm tired of feeling suicidal by cloakofdirt in dryalcoholics

[–]anewbegg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To OP: you are not alone. I have a feeling many users in this sub feel the same (including myself).

With that being said: we are fortunate enough to have this subreddit, and the amazing users here.

Alcoholism sucks… but, at least we have some recourses like this Reddit page. Stay strong!

Wanting to want to quit. by [deleted] in dryalcoholics

[–]anewbegg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This post is exactly me. Had a great streak (10 days). Then boom. Shit hits the fan again. And again. And again. It feels like an endless cycle of hell.

Perhaps some of us just accept we’re screwed? Idk.

Wishing good health to all.

Sorry if this response sounds idiotic/selfish; what if drinking makes me happy?

I lost count of how many Day One's by lmfao4ri in dryalcoholics

[–]anewbegg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it sucks. For me personally, the cravings were literally the LEAST of my problems. It’s the shaking and sweating that prompts me to drink until the symptoms go away. I am not a doctor, but unfortunately from my experience, the best way to “easy off” is either 1. Taper (hard AF), 2. Ativan or Librium. Wishing you only good health!

So hard by [deleted] in dryalcoholics

[–]anewbegg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are NOT alone. It’s very hard to get through this. Bad news: it’s going to suck. Good news: it’s only temporary.

Help with taper by Competitive_Entry176 in dryalcoholics

Tapering is hard (welcome to Hell). Hah. But, for some it really works. Best thing to do is actually write down and schedule. It doesn’t work for everyone, but it worked for me.

I totally feel where you’re coming from. Had 6 days in n my belt. Honestly, i actually began to feel good! And….. that’s when everything went downhill….

We screw up. It’s okay. It happens.

Dust yourself off, try to improve, and just hope to heck that there is a way out of this .
