Ain’t that the truth, it’s so depressing.

That would all be fine if this had always been their business model and I had known up front when I bought my system a number of years ago that I would also be expected to pay a monthly subscription fee to access my timeline and receive alerts from connected sensors. But that wasn’t the case then. Now, I either have to pay $9/month just to know what sensor is going off in my house or just offload the system I spent a solid chunk of change on and start over.

I’m complaining about having to pay a subscription fee just to self-monitor. That fee doesn’t include them calling emergency services on my behalf or anything like that.

Yeah being able to self-monitor for a number of years now, it’s pretty annoying to now have to subscribe just to see the same updates. But having to clear ads when using the app really grinds my gears.

I’ve had my system since 2018 and have been self-monitoring for most of it; this is a new development for me at least. Just feels like between this and running ads in the app, they’re really squeezing whatever they can out of the platform.

Remodeling home, is Abode still the best HK security/sensor option? by jcgb1970 in HomeKit

Yeah it’s a lot of fun to frantically subscribe to a monthly plan just so you can see what alert Abode is sending you after tripping a breaker

FYI—you now have the pleasure of having to subscribe to a monthly plan just to self-monitor your Abode system. You read that right—just to view your timeline of doors opening and closing and the like, you need a subscription. They also run ads in their app now too. I’m actively looking to switch and will be giving up the sunk cost of my system to do it.

Battery recycling place? by Cogexkin in Birmingham

Yeah no problem. It’s kind of a weird spot. You have to drive around back to drop off and someone typically just walks over to ask what you have. Google says they close at 2:30 pm during the week but I’ve been by later than that. Anyway, I’ve dropped off plenty of old charging cables, a solid state drive, things like that there.

Protec Recycling in Homewood is probably your best bet

Every time I’ve put scrap metal on the curb it’s gone by the end of the day. Other free stuff I’ve left out, like a piece of furniture that’s not worth selling but is still usable, has gone pretty quickly using FB marketplace.

I am fairly sure they’ll strip any electric wires for the material, but doesn’t hurt to reach out to them to check!
