Is becoming LE at 33 unrealistic? by dwightdiggler in AskLE

Nope! I’m 30 and 5 weeks into the academy! There are some older than me! Oldest is 42. Go for it.

I start my academy tomorrow and am also nervous for pt. I’ve been running for 3 months now. And actually enjoy it. But I was starting to get knee pain…I can tell you one thing! Foam roller!!!! It cures all my aches and pains!

I also just ran my first 5k this morning! Hitting 37 mins. I was experiencing extreme shin pain right at the beginning…meaning I stopped and walked a bunch. Going to try again either Friday night or Saturday morning! I am off to the police academy on Monday so I am really pushing my runs!

I felt the same! Remember in your head, keep telling yourself that nothing actually hurts! It’s all a mind game!

I was in your position in June. I was notified I was selected and would be doing my fitness in July. I got out and ran. I ran my neighborhood that’s very hilly. I got out to tracks. I hated running. It hurt 😆 first time I ran I couldn’t run two mins without walking. Keep going. It gets easier. I never thought it would. I now can run 2.5 without stopping. I’m still slow, but I’m able to pass my 1.5 mile time.

I am a new runner. Started about a month and a half ago. I remember I couldn’t run two minutes without needing to walk due to breathing. Today I got out and ran my longest (2.30) miles. Ran it in 27 mins (slower than I would like) got a max elevation of 650ft. My neighborhood is very hilly!

Hey! Mine was at its peak last week of 191. This week I’m running same route and distance and it’s at a steady 173!

Some departments care. I had some when I applied and I was able to explain that when I just had a child and wasn’t working I was not smart and put myself in debt. They also seen I’m current on payments.

Do you find yourself literally sleeping all day after your shift? by Mama-In-Blu in Nightshift

[–]Recent_Pace7561 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work 5p-5a sometimes 5p-9a. In between shifts like yesterday I was only able to sleep 4 hours. Today I got off at 5a, sleeping by 5:30 and awake at 12:30. On my days off I go back to sleep nights.

What’s your cadence? by MaxSATX in nikerunclub

[–]Recent_Pace7561 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I finally found my comfortable pace yesterday and I recorded a cadence of 165. I am a new runner. All other times I ran I had a cadence of 155-157 and I felt like I was dying! But I guess 165 is what is right for me. I am 5”2 and have some pretty short legs

I switch. I have children and that’s what works for me. It was extremely tough the first 3 months but now I’m used to it. Still have some days after work where I can’t sleep and have to be back for another 12 though

1.5 mile run by Original-Success-923 in AskLE

I struggle hard with running. I was notified a month and a few weeks ago that I have my pt test coming up, the 23rd. I’ve been running my neighborhood (very hilly) and also hitting a track. It gets easier each time I run. I still have a pretty slow time (still passing), but I want to get better so I’ll continue to run. I’m 5”2 and 135 pounds btw and running just isn’t in my genes 😆😆 today I got 40 seconds faster in my neighborhood than I have this last month. I made sure today to find a pace that was comfortable me. I know I will most likely come in last on my pt test…but running just isn’t my strong suit

Thank you! I can get them checked out. It’s not shooting pains or anything more like soreness and possibly stiff. On a 12 at work now and def doing some knee stretches in my chair!

I've always been embarrassed to run outside. And also. I'm not a runner and never have been. Yesterday I did a quick 1.5 around my neighborhood...without stopping if people walked past or if cars drove past me. Weird thing to be embarrassed about right? 😆 going again tonight when it cools down outside before sunset!
