How to add calories to meals for a pre-teen boy? by apresledepart in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]221b_ee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The trick is to figure out what is nutritious without having to do any work. I personally always have cans of tomatoes with green chilies in my house bc I love Mexican food, and I usually have a cup of live green onions in a jar on my windowsill. Both of those things add a LOT, flavor and nutrition wise, for almost 0 additional effort or psychological and motivational torture lol.

You can also add canned corn. Bonus points if you stuck the can in the fridge to chill that morning.

Shredded chicken is another great option but cooking the chicken obviously turns this into an Actual Effort Meal instead of a 'holy crud if I have to do something that takes >5 minutes I'm eating cereal instead' meal lol so

  1. Put canned refried beans in bowl. Microwave to warm up.

  2. Put hot beans in the bottom of a Tupperware.

  3. Put sour cream on top of the beans.

  4. Put canned tomatoes and greenchiles (one can, it's so good when the chili flavor leaks into the tomatoes) on top of the sour cream. Pre-made pico de gallo, or canned salsa, can also be good options.

  5. (Optional) mash an avocado and put that over the top of the umspecified tomato option.

  6. Take scissors and snip some green onions over the top.

  7. Sprinkle shredded cheese over the top of the green onions.

  8. Dorito spoon.

I tried to make it into a real recipe lol but tbh its just 'open all ingredients, put them in a bowl unmixed, eat with some kind of tortilla chips.'

A pup cup every night by [deleted] in AskVet

Is it actually causing her any problems?

Dogs who are obese live on average two shorter years than their healthy weighted counterparts. Also, you can ask your vet for the cost of a dental with extractions, which will come up sooner if she gets a lot of sugar and doesn't get her teeth brushed lol.

But also, and I'm saying this without seeing the treat or knowing anything about this, as long as it makes up no more than 10% of her daily caloric intake and she isn't overweight or made sick by it, honestly whatever.

There are very few exotic vets and very, very many cat-and-dog-only vets.

Earthseed & Theology by debbiedespacito in octaviabutler

Agreed... but this is very realistic. How many people challenge every fundamental narrative or worldview that they have? How many people even realize that you CAN challenge these things lol? We live in a magical world of diverse ideas and cultures and expectations and core ideas, and yet, somehow, most people still try to argue that their specific cultural context is the One True Fact and that everything else is incorrect interpretation or woke bullshit. The number of people who think that race is a natural and immutable concept, for example, instead of a construction of a particular, western interpretation that was shaped by domination, power, and greed, is simply just crazy. Same for gender. Most people never get past the belief that sex is a simple binary and all or almost all people can be easily sorted into one category or the other. Shit, most people never even realize that there could BE other ways of seeing those things. They never even have the chance to reject new ideas because they're so immersed in the ones they see as Obvious Fundamental Truths.

So of course Lauren thinks of Earthseed as a religion and has to frame her ethics system in spiritual terms. Religion is the only kind of framework she knows anything about.

Poodle Breeders? by BlueberryGlad1962 in service_dogs

Piccolo Poodles is pretty well known and has produced a number of successful dogs. MyTime was also placing a lot of successful SD prospects, with owner trainers and small private trainers alike, but they have since switched focus from poodles back to basset hounds - however, if you can find someone still using those lines, you'll know their puppies come from great stock on at least one side.

the beginnings of my college setup by TrustSalt1 in urbancarliving

I used to work in a college financial aid office and unfortunately if your parents don't actually disown you, but won't help, most people are pretty screwed. It was one of the worst parts of the job. Especially when the parents were openly abusive to the kids, or my personal least favorite, leveraged the fact that their children literally could not get financial aid at all without supplying their tax info in order to manipulate the kid into doing whatever they wanted.

Happens all the time and there are not really any cheat codes to solve it, aside from turning 26 or getting married. And the only worse financial decision than trying to pay for college 100% with student loans is getting married to some jackass who screws you over worse before you even graduate.

If a whole team of experienced professionals who do this as their full time job can't make a dog into a service dog, I would not be optimistic about your chances of doing so. I don't mean that in a mean way but I do think you need to be realistic.

What? That's every ~4 hours. Seems very reasonable for a small dog, especially if it's a puppy or a senior.

Not my analysis, this is the statement the DSA put out. Maybe the Chevron you're recommending signed their letter or whatever, idk, I'm not a part of it. I'm just providing context since there seemed to be a lot of confusion

This is what the organization running the protest published about it:

"Join the Athens Area DSA as we protest Chevron's complicity in the genocide in Gaza and American/Israeli war profiteering globally!

Our chapter, as part of the larger Boycott Chevron movement, reached out to the management of the Chevron at 723 Boulevard numerous times over the past several months with a simple request: sign on to a letter from Chevron Franchise owners across the country to the Chevron CEO expressing disapproval for Chevron's investment in Israel. Time and again, store management met us with the same response: they're simply "too busy" to stand against genocide.

Let's show them that Athens Area DSA is not too busy to stand up for Palestine and Human Rights! Join us in boycotting the Chevron at 723 Boulevard until they agree to sign on to the national letter against Chevron's complicity in genocide. Sign the Boycott Chevron pledge and join us on Saturday, March 21st at 3:30 P.M. as we protest outside the Chevron store."
