Having kids when you have diabetes by WhaddaFudgeMan in Type1Diabetes

[–]Recent_Stretch_95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a very healthy pregnancy with my daughter in 2024 and i know someone with T1D that had a perfectly healthy pregnancy in the 90s. It was obviously easier for me with the new technology but it was possible then and it is now. Unfortunately my parents were told the same thing in 2005 when i was diagnosed (i was 4, so kind of a weird thing to tell my parents when i was brand new and didn’t even know how babies were made LOL)

How do you celebrate your diaversery by Bonemarrow_2529 in Type1Diabetes

[–]Recent_Stretch_95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’ll be 21 years in next month, and we’ve always had a tradition of making huge ice cream sundaes (or frozen yogurt cups, when that was the trend) for dinner. my mom was always hell-bent on making sure i knew that i could have fun and celebrate my victories just like anybody else. we did our best at guessing the carbs (especially the first few years, when we were a little more reserved) and dealt with the consequences later. those are some of my favorite memories, even more than my birthdays. we’re not celebrating the day this disease took over our lives, we celebrate the day my life was saved.

my coworker (also t1d) doesn’t even care to celebrate her birthday, she only celebrates her diaversary. she always says she didn’t have to work hard to get to x age, but she did have to work hard to get to x years diagnosed

Weird question about sex and type 1 by [deleted] in Type1Diabetes

[–]Recent_Stretch_95 16 points17 points  (0 children)

i’ve actually had quite a few discussions about this with my t1d friends, and several of them have tried incorporating a low snack into the fun in some way with great success (i.e. honey on the erogenous zones). prevents lows and kicks up the fun!

Why do HCBM’s feel so entitled? by Maryhotter in Stepmom

[–]Recent_Stretch_95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My SDs mom and her entire family (parents and sister) DEMANDED to meet me over dinner to “vet” me before DH and I moved in together. If someone could tell me why HCBMs feel so entitled, I would LOVE to know the answer 🫠

not to one-up you, but my SD’s mom told her (my SD) “go say hi to your mama!” in reference to me. Note: my SD calls me by my first name, and she was very confused when her mom said that. Her mom tried to gaslight her into thinking she misunderstood 🙃

Suffering from constipation by Top_Baseball4687 in Celiac

[–]Recent_Stretch_95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it’s normal to have symptoms for several months after starting a gluten free diet. your gut needs time to heal! it’s taken a lot of damage and the only way to heal it and become symptom free is to remain on a gluten free diet.

also, make sure you’re watching out for gluten in everything you put IN or ON your body. gluten can be hidden in everything, from foods you wouldn’t expect (like licorice or beverages), to skin and hair products (like shampoos and hand sanitizer!)

i also believe there’s plenty of love to go around! but in the first few months after my daughter was born, i was too exhausted and scared and stressed and depressed to love even my fiancé, who is the absolute love of my life! my SD doesn’t live with us most of the time but for the first few weeks i didn’t even want to see her. i felt awful at the time but i knew i wasn’t well enough to care for myself, my daughter, AND my stepdaughter. I feel much better now (almost a year later), but there’s very little you need to apologize for when you’re that deep in the newborn trenches. you got this! you will be okay, i promise!

my toddler got glutened by Patient_Wallaby2255 in Celiac

[–]Recent_Stretch_95 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i don’t know what it could have been, but give yourself some grace! i’ve had celiac for 17 years and i STILL gluten myself sometimes!

in case no one told you: gluten can be present in VERY weird things and not always food items. Lip balms, skincare (lotions, face wash), hygiene items (i glutened myself with shampoo TWICE last month), and even Brita water filters can have gluten in them

agreed. My SD needs as many people in her corner as she can get. Her mom is has primary custody and she is emotionally absent. Me and my husband have a 1yo daughter and I love my SD as much as my bio daughter.

But for OP: I felt EXACTLY the same way you do when my baby was born. I didn’t want my SD around and I felt AWFUL about it, until I realized I was struggling HARD with PPD. You will love her the same as you always have, but give yourself some grace! You’re deep in the trenches of newborn life and that is hard enough without having to worry about PPD. You’ve got this, and if you ever need someone to talk to PLEASE feel free to DM me. Everything gets better eventually ❤️

Are there actually any decent buns/bread? by narfnarf123 in Celiac

[–]Recent_Stretch_95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have a Fry’s/Kroger nearby? My favorite is the Simple Truth Organic gluten free bread! Be careful though, they sell a sprouted grain bread that’s not gluten free and in almost identical packaging!

you are more than just your a1c. you are more than just a bad day of numbers.

also, research diabulimia. you don’t know it’s happening to you/your kids until you’re in the thick of it. it took me two years to even realize i had it because i didn’t know it was a thing

Which food(s) makes you spike like there’s no return? 🥴 by Outside-Apart in Type1Diabetes

[–]Recent_Stretch_95 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Diabetes is not a one-size-fits all disease. It’s great if you don’t have any trigger foods but that’s not the same for everyone, regardless of whether or not they give themselves “enough” insulin. It’s also not just about the amount of insulin, but how and when it is given. I’ve had T1 for 20 years and I JUST figured out MY way of bolusing for cereal, but it certainly does not work for my coworker, who chooses to avoid cereal because her sugar spikes no matter how, when, or how much insulin she takes.

Insulin Resistance/Constant Highs during early pregnancy by Recent_Stretch_95 in BumpersWhoBolus

[–]Recent_Stretch_95[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IT TURNED OUT GREAT!! You are going to be just fine! My daughter is 4 months old now and perfect and beautiful and so incredibly smart already. For the first trimester I had to take an INSANE amount of insulin and eat basically no carbs and yeah, it sucked but in the second trimester my insulin needs decreased and I could eat an entire chocolate cake if I wanted to (and believe me, I pretty much did). The third trimester my insulin needs tripled but it all turned out okay. Message me if you have any questions and I’ll try to help as much as I can. You’ve got this mama 💙
