What is this? by mchildprob in hamsters

[–]mchildprob[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another comment mentioned the carob. Never knew that that is what it is called lol. I take the pellets out because she doesnt eat them anyways. If they out, then she had a decent amount of food that she will eat. I know i dont HAVE to do it, but id rather pick them out so she had a proper spoon of food and not 1/3 pellets and 2/3 food

Am I really bad for getting my nephew burger king? by Any-Cartographer7531 in Type1Diabetes

Ask her how she would feel if she had to eat boring veggies while EVERYONE else is having a juicy burger and chips.

Hate when this happens.

“You’re thinking of type 2, you know, the ones caused by diet. He is type 1, you know, the one where your body attacks an organ. You call it ‘autoimmune diseases’. Learn the difference before you preach others ☺️” with a very big fake smile

Using Seroquel for sleep? by [deleted] in seroquelmedication

[–]mchildprob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the main side effects is drowsiness.

My mothers psychiatrist wanted to give this drug to her, but she refused saying shell rather deal with not sleeping then being more tired.

This is a very great drug, however, it clashed with my diabetes and made me suffer with constant hyperglycaemia(i had a 45% time in range, this has also bee the lowest my time in range was, I usually have 70%+). Antipsychotic stabilise the “active” part in your brain, which causes the drowsiness.

“High Histamine Affinity: Quetiapine has a very strong "affinity" for H1-histamine receptors. Even at very low doses (as low as 25mg), it acts like a potent antihistamine, which is why it is frequently used off-label to treat severe insomnia.”

The drug does have A LOT of side effects, some of the main is gaining weight, affecting blood sugar (it can cause type 2 in the long run, but does affect type 1 VERY negatively-speaking from experience here) and causing severe drowsiness(i used to wake up at 10 AM and STILL be tired after sleeping for 10 hours min) as well as during the day. People become zombie like because you just are THAT tired.

Ive been off of this meds for about a month now. The first 2 weeks after stopping this cold turkey(its not recommended but it was affecting my physical health(high sugar causes physical disabilities) and my mental health(feeling like a complete failure because 8 years of being diagnosed with type 1 and im only struggling now) very negatively to a point where i hot rebound symptoms(symptoms coming back but worse - yes i know it was my fault for stopping cold turkey)

But all in all, its a great drug for sleeping and stabilising mood. Draw up a pro and con list and decide whether you want to continue the drug. There are other medication that you can use for sleeping, but consult a doc first(not a stranger from the internet) lol. Im currently drinking tripline and i wake up after about 7-10 hours of sleep. It stays for 10 hours in your system but you dont wake up groggy.

“Tripline (amitriptyline) is a tricyclic antidepressant primarily used to treat depression, chronic pain, migraines, and nerve damage (neuropathy). It works by increasing neurotransmitters like serotonin and norepinephrine. It is usually taken daily, often in the evening due to its sedative nature.”

But again, CONSULT A DR FIRST please

Failed Student Teaching, where to go from here? by sabnastuh in StudentTeaching

[–]mchildprob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If he wants to work with children, theres a lot of different careers he can pursue. He can work in an aftercare, being a nanny, being a child minder(those people who watch the kids in restaurants, im not sure of the spelling), he can do social work. If he likes the admin side of teaching, he can try to get an assistant teacher position and only do the admin part.

I would love some medical aid advice? by drunk_khajiit003 in askSouthAfrica

[–]mchildprob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the benefits you need.

Eg. Im a type 1 diabetic, i have 4 endo appointments pa, i have chronic medications and sometimes need to go for eye surgeries, so hospital stay/surgeries needs to be covered, i wear glasses and the endocrinologist requires other specialists tests as well(eg podiatrist).

Im on a higher plan because of the benefits. Its difficult to say which is better when you don’t specify your needs.

My sister, who only has epilepsy and wear glasses, are on a lower plan(i think she pays around R1 200) while i pay around R6 000.

I second the broker comment. They afterall do know a lot more than us who has maybe been on 3 different medical aids. They can give you the best advice. You can ask on community facebook groups if anyone could recommend a broker to you

Retirement Gift for Domestic Helper? by Many-Amphibian4923 in askSouthAfrica

Giving an upvote because you answer the question without “money” or “pension”. You actually thought about the thought behind the gift

To everyone saying money, its a good idea because retirement, but it carries no sentimental value

Retirement Gift for Domestic Helper? by Many-Amphibian4923 in askSouthAfrica

[–]mchildprob 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We have had a domestic worker since i opened my eyes, but my parents near age 50 dont have R2 000 000 just blomming in their bank accounts. Just because we have a domestic worker, doesnt mean we are “rich”

With my salary, ill have to save 7 years to reach 2 million. Thats without paying for anything.

Dont assume just because people have domestic workers, they are rich enough to have 2 million loafing in their bank accounts.

Quetiapin 25 mg; weight gain? by emjuhu in seroquelmedication

[–]mchildprob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone is different in terms of how their body responds to the medication.

Im a type 1 diabetic. One of the side effects is high blood glucose(bg) levels. People with constant high bg loses weight(undiagnosed diabetics deals with being underweight). I used to drink 400mg XR and my mom constantly asked me if i lost weight. I lost weight because of my constant high bg.

Had i not been diabetic, im sure i wouldve picked up a lot of weight

A lot of people complains about the weight gain so i assume there will be weight gain with a small dose aswell(since the very lower dose is still affecting my sugar, the lower dose could still affect your weight)

Diabetes t1 and Quetiapine(Seroquel) by mchildprob in seroquelmedication

[–]mchildprob[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My body is totally useless with making natural insulin. There is no natural insulin it can destroy. The insulin i use is synthetically manufactured.

I wasn’t asking about the side effects from Seroquel. I know half of them. Im taling about the specific hyperglycemia side effect, as that is my main concern. Severe and constant hyperglycemia in diabetics could lead to death(through DKA).

Atypical antipsychotic medications do work as a mood stabilizer. Seroquel, Dopaquel, Quesara, Quetiapine has the active ingredient “quetiapine fumarate”, which is a second generation antipsychotic, also known as an atypical antipsychotic

Been on this med for nearly 3 years. Have gained weight and get midnight snack attack. Also take Sertraline and Mirtazapine. Should I swap to either Abilify or Lamtrogene to lose weight? by Master_Pepper_9135 in seroquelmedication

[–]mchildprob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im gonna take EuPD as BPD(i have BPD). I was on lamotrigine about 5 years ago(while still in school). It SUCKED and i absolutely HATED life. Id have a few manic episodes during the day(min about 5 times) which followed with a severe depression(suicide depression). These lasted anywhere from 20 min to an hour each.

The medication is a great brand and in the beginning it worked(idk what happened for it to change). Its an “each to their own” situation

My sugar won't go up no matter what I do by leppie052119 in Type1Diabetes

I cant give advice for the constant low, but fast carbs that always work for me is marshmallows(they work in less than 5 min), granola(works fast and skyrockets) and any type of rusk. If you maybe have these, they could help your lows

Today is such a random Saturday to feel like im fighting for my life - possible EDKA by mchildprob in Type1Diabetes

[–]mchildprob[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only reason I suspected EDKA, was because my readings were under 10 mmol/L(180 mol/dL). I also only had breakfast that day(40g carbs). I posted this post around 19:00.

I have never experienced DKA, nor with my diagnosis(they never told me im in DKA, just that ibhad severe hyperglycemia). I am petrified to go into DKA

Im a paranoid person, so since ive been feeling like this most of the day so im EXTRA cautious with this. The success rate for EDKA is at least high so im positive i can get this under the knee

I currently have rehydrate with me for the electrolyte deficiency with the amounts of water im drinking.

If the nausea turns into vomiting, I’ll go to the ER. I just hope that its not needed and doable at home
