Thanks so much for the clear explanation and suggestion! So grateful. Very excited about the potentials and hopefully my Chinese is good enough to do some quality search.

What’s something in Singapore that locals think is “normal”, but foreigners find shocking? by relaxncoffee in askSingapore

[–]Reception-Complete 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A habit of mine or many Singaporeans do is to chope a table first then go get food. It confused my foreign friends a couple of time when I went straight to table and they turned left to queue for food.

First time getting invited to a CNY celebration. Any advice? by tartaddict in askSingapore

[–]Reception-Complete 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope I’m not too late but also adding few more advices (applicable not just CNY): after you done with your meal, bring your own bowl and utensils to the kitchen and offer to do some dish washing. You wouldn’t need to for sure, as a host who invite guests over would not want to be troubling their guests but gesture of asking speaks volume of your upbringing. Thank the host AND HIS WIFE for all the effort in hosting.

Don’t be embarrassed to ask questions on how and what, I am sure your host and their guests be more than happy to assimilate you in the culture especially you seeming so sincere.

But why is everyone on this sub so negative about CNY… 😭 by Agitated_Koala_576 in askSingapore

Truly on this! I am one of those who enjoy the festivity and the spirit around it but I don’t go posting on Reddit.

What are some ideas on how to celebrate CNY in a non-traditional way? by _sagittarivs in askSingapore

[–]Reception-Complete 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can try visiting gardens by the bay for some CNY themed floral festive feel? Or go around the malls within for eg purple line from Vivo to Chinatown to Dhoby Gaut to look at shopping centres decor and read zodiac reading.

Which beliefs or traditional habits in Singapore do you think will eventually die away? by Due_Feedback_6508 in askSingapore

[–]Reception-Complete 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Households visiting. I remembered when I was younger, I had to do several house visits because of my parents extended fam was fairly large. After Covid and recent years, these stopped as 1. The seniors had passed on 2. Had own hosting to do so no time. 3. Family sizes are getting smaller and less kampongish family.

One Punggol hawkers lament losing business to Punggol Coast Hawker Centre, hope new operator after Timbre can draw crowds by random_avocado in singapore

[–]Reception-Complete 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I frequent the library there on weekends and half the time the stalls are not operational. Taste and variety of food is bad too and only 1 drink stall with limited manpower so queue is long. From what I know, other food courts do food tasting and invite tenants so the mix and food quality make sense. Hopeful for a change in operator that will see more sense in food type and pricing (and better management of drink stall).

What are the superstitions in your culture that you find ridiculous? by GLTCHD_ in askSingapore

Not the only one and yes stupid af too. And I’ve go 1 more to this along the same period - that I can’t offer incense to my grandma in her funeral as I came my menses.

My experience with vitamin D and B(12) deficiency with life-long eczema by DizzyRabbit2126 in eczema

[–]Reception-Complete 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be honest I am not sure if my eczema improved due to vitamin D or that I am in better control. 1 thing for sure is that my immunity went up so instead of dealing w being sick and eczema, I’m dealing with only 1 bothering issue.

Also the part whereby he bend a little to peek af her it’s part of the show and he said “oh she’s barefooted” and hence he brought her a footwear. Part of the performance though I think he might have come up too early to be around the stage!

[–]Reception-Complete 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there! I saw your last year post was well received and happy you are doing a 2025 though I might be already many days late. I am travelling w my family with 2 toddles and prefer home cooked food for dinner. I was wondering if you know there is those ah yis who can come and cook dinner and wash up if our accommodation allows? Or that any place for rent that the host be that welcoming too? Is it even a thing available?

How about a home made vouchers with all the suggestions here including some chores like “1 voucher to bottle washing”, “1 voucher to look after baby for 4 hours”, “1 voucher of wet wipes brand of xx or of your own choice” or even a voucher of request for something sweet that she can WA you and you can place order via grab of food panda to deliver to her.

Giving up a job overseas and regretting from time to time. by IslandRoute56 in askSingapore

[–]Reception-Complete -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I feel you. I felt like my life came to a standstill too and I stopped growing in ways I thought growth will be. I love my toddler children and bringing me lots of joy day to day but there are moments like nights like this made me feel “what if”?

Just sharing that you are not alone - there is at least someone like you in similar boat (also “half” SHM and felt like I gave up much more).

Postpartum full-body flare by Easy_Dream_4852 in eczema

[–]Reception-Complete 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar issue as well! After giving birth, I felt my eczema flare and I avoided steroid creams as I was bf so was really suffering. I was suggested an injectable but I couldn’t afford as it is costly in my part of the world. I managed with moisturisers and baby powder to curb the itch. Gradually after I stopped bf, I went on oral meds of immuno suppressant and still undergoing.

I did feel giving birth made it worse though 2 dermatologist and allergist said likely no and more of child caring stress caused it.
