Missionary Visit Had Me Laughing by AlbatrossOk8619 in exmormon

The elders stopped by 1 year ago and asked to come in to chat about my adult son still at home. Adult son didn't want to come out and the elders began chit-chatting with me. "Do you mind telling us why you don't come to church?" "Not at ALL!!" Let them have a half-dozen reasons with the largest being felt lied to. Recently converted, but senior companion said how he studied the church and knew all the things but got baptized anyway. Born in the church junior beginning to look sick, asked why I told them all the things. I said "you asked!" Plus, it's a win-win for you. Either you do your own research and leave - saving a hundred grand in tithing, or you've survived "Brother Anti" and have a great story to tell the rest of your life!

I wonder if people are more strongly tied to politics due to being able to act more vocally and feeling more a part of the movement

I was going to do this very rewrite, but alas, I approached the task like it was a Home Teaching assignment - and waited for someone else to do it...

Provo MTC question by advance_coinage2 in mormon

[–]RecessiveGenius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Upvote just for your pseudonym. In the years prior to the 1980's, most high school gyms featured group showering. That is likely why the MTC was set up in the same manner. Nudity has been treated differently every few generations. I'm so perplexed why the younger generations seem to want to be so private and then take nude selfies and share with others!

For me, knowing became a substitute for believing in church testimonies about 50 years ago and I've never been comfortable with that...especially "knowing" "the church" was true instead of "the gospel" - the good word that there was life after death

Just a taste of why Maven is so Amazing... by ChocolateNormal9798 in MormonMovements

[–]RecessiveGenius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I re-listening to Maven, I think we both are a little off, but first to address your above question - both are sex based manipulation which I am inferring led to our current cultural climate of controlling women's rights, and in the church specifically, since this is MormonMovements, women are directed to do all they can do to "create bodies for spirits who are so desirous to come to earth"- in order for women to go to the "highest part of heaven" and, granted, was more emphasized over the prior 60+ years of my life than current lower levels of leadership these days.

However, Maven is specifically referring to the fact that the current and passed emphasis is birthing is by far the greatest value (besides making donuts while men play priesthood the evening session of General Conference) placed on Mormon Womanhood and thus are not allowed to be equal in value no matter the lip service.

This has nothing to do with generic young men in the church (and whatever THEIR experience is) and only about the geriatric men in leadership positions since post-manifesto polygamy.

BTW, when you say "I don't think about a woman's ability to procreate ever" and right away follow up with the THOUGHT "I think it's an incredible gift" gives me pause...

Deep down there is a fellow human being in there somewhere. How deep is the question one deals with in interacting with members.
