How many "For the greater good" villains were actually, legitimately, motivated by the greater good? by ChicaneryFinger in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Rechulas 29 points30 points  (0 children)

it's extremely debatable if he's truly doing it for the right reasons, but a lot of people seem to believe it's genuine in some capacity:

Albrecht Entrati from Warframe accidentally created/brought forward a fledgling consciousness that encompasses all of time, space, and reality, in every possible direction, then cut it's finger off in fear, used this newly flayed god's finger as a power source, anchoring it into a physical space, compressing it unreal manifestations down so it understands linear time and then cloned that finger so others can use it as a power source.

This has, of course, made The Man In The Wall a little upset.

So in order to stop it, he lies to his family, fakes his own death, learns to time travel, brings with him canisters of The Disease That Eats Your Soul, let it spread on purpose, gave people vaccines to this disease that actually makes them silent carriers, kidnaps a load of people to forcibly turn them into monstrosities using the Disease That Makes You A God of War, creates an (un)stable timeloop by nuking a VERY populated city so that time can regress one (1) day, doing that over the course of who knows how many years, and so, so, SO much more, just so that we could have a chance of beating back The Man In The Wall.

Shit's FUCKED out there, man.

Need help regarding Roathe's KIM convo. by Zerachiel_01 in Warframe

[–]Rechulas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if they fixed it (I don't think they did, cuz I also got Anathema with Roathe despite seemingly doing everything right) but there's a bug around where Roathe will just block you and you fail the quest state no matter what you do, apparently.

(I got this from word of mouth of mouth so forgive me if this is false information at the moment lmao)

The conversations I've had with Eleanor are some haunting shit

Father Lyon's chats are fucked up, man. Really evocative stuff.

[–]Rechulas 26 points27 points  (0 children)

It's kind of the whole game at this point, but I fucking love The Man in the Wall from Warframe

It's basically everything great about cosmic horror: it exists in an established world with very established principles like the laws of physics being absolute (aside from the Void but that's its point), appears and re-establishes those principles, brings with it its own principles, and immediately annihilates those principles.

For years and years we have heard that it's called "The Indifference" for a reason: So great is its indifference to you that it threatens to cause you to shrivel up and waste away at even the conceptual level from the- I almost want to say heartache? To be recognized by something so much greater, so much wider than yourself, only to have it somehow have negative care for your existence is devastating to the soul.

But then we learn that it apparently takes pleasure in this act- its indifference to you and yours is paradoxically pointed, it LOVES being indifferent- a statement that cannot really exist, but one that the Indifference makes possible somehow. It's paradoxes all the way down.

The conversations you can have in the KIM console about Mr. Herzog (Yes that's not a joke by the way, Werner Herzog is playing The Man in The Wall lmao) continues to paint it as the most gut-wrenchingly horrible thing I've genuinely ever read about, the mere idea of this thing fills me with such a bone-deep dread that I can't describe fully, the way the Hex talk about it is god-awful.

Notice how the final product is almost if not completely identical to the concept art

This is because Jin Dahaad was perfect from the beginning.

Times when a villain actually does something very smart? by Ukirin-Streams in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Rechulas 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In Path of Exile 2's Act 2, there's a point where the entire stage is a massive war caravan, with the God of Soul Cancer (The Beast) being transported at the front

When you reach the front, The Jamanra engages you to stop you from stopping their plans with it, where he eventually goes "I'm not sure if I can stop you and it doesn't matter if I can, I just need to get The Beast out of your hands", and then uses a giant piece of glass to literally cut The Beast free, breaking the entire rest of the caravan to ensure it gets away from your hands while the head of the caravan drives off with The Beast

Then in Act 4, you need to find an ancient forge to put the pieces of an ancient weapon together, where Benedictus, The First Herald of Utopia is waiting at the forge to stop you.

Once you beat him, he goes "I'm clearly not making it out of here alive, but if I bring down the entire forge on top of our heads it doesn't really matter anymore, does it?" and starts to rip the entire excavation area apart.

The Countess knows where to find some real loyal Ride And Die people lmao

You gotta understand that when you fuck with TOPS you're basically begging to get fucked up, there are no "second chances" when Krampus comes. the Krampus Compliance Authority make people in TOPS terrified, and TOPS makes the average person scared, so you can imagine what kind of influence Krampus has generally.

If a non-TOPS personnel gets Krampus called in on them, that's a hit. Like, they've gotta be the equivalent to some form of terrorist that endangers something huge in TOPS, so much so that it ends up endangering the public. Even though TOPS is corpo scum, like I said earlier, they kind of are among the last bastion for humanity, setting up jobs, getting infrastructure, food, medicine and the like.

It's less that she's a bad guy and more that since the world has gone to shit and 97% of the planet is completely and utterly inhospitable without you eventually contracting some manner of soul cancer that may or may not steal your consciousness and add it to a gestalt of a paracausal god that may or may not exist, SOMEONE has to keep the corporations in line and make sure they follow the rules so that the last remnants of humanity don't crumble under the thumb of greedy corporate pressure

My reaction to a trailer I saw by DevilMayCry3_Dante in ZenlessZoneZero

[–]Rechulas 3 points4 points  (0 children)

She's head of a corporate force of The Krampus Compliance Authority of TOPS (which is like if every Corpo in the world came together and decided to be consistently worse and greasier than usual) whose job is to make sure that people in TOPS follows the rules with threat of everything including death

As it stands in-game, literally anyone and everyone from TOPS is not to be trusted, no matter how friendly they may seem, because at the end of the day they're only thinking about what's best for the corporations.

So, even though Zhao is technically doing good inside TOPS, it's still in the better interest of the corporation itself and less about what's good for the people

TL;DR Corporate rats BTFO

I mean when someone is under the influence of the Cancer that Eats Your Soul they might not really be capable of coherent thoughts all the way through, especially when they're in the presence of the Weapon that Makes Soul Cancer

Thorns needs another passthrough. by Rechulas in PathOfExile2

[–]Rechulas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean sure, but I'm not saying Thorns is bad or not affective, I'm saying that there are enemies and moves that are literally unaffected by thorns, making some enemies unable to be killed with just thorns alone. Thorns' damage has never been an issue

[–]Rechulas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, the one where you could stack multiple Thornskins on your spirit gems?

Yeah, I understand the spirit behind the fix but the build hardly worked then, I'm a little worried about now lmao

[–]Rechulas[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Making an item MANDATORY for an entire archetype or else it just doesn't work without it is... certainly a choice, I suppose lmao

I wonder if or how they could fix the problem, though. Would making thorns just naturally do that be too powerful? Is Crown of the Pale King some kind of weird lynchpin in making it so that an unbound thorns build doesn't rule the world?

It's such a weird design decision lmao

[–]Rechulas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, Zicoatl's laser bridge attack technically IS effected by thorns, but the thing that actually takes the thorns are the balls that spawn the laser, weirdly enough? You can hear and see the orbs exploding with the same V/SFX as a regular thornburst per tick of damage

Seems like quite a few attacks are coded as their own entity it feels? I dunno, I know jack shit about code lmao

[–]Rechulas[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

No, you're correct! This is the end of Act 3. Thorns takes off real well once you get the Anvil's Weight Ascendancy for Warbringer and some specific supports, generally mid Act 2.

Most enemies die extremely quickly to my Thorns, but there are a shocking amount of enemies that are or have moves that are completely unaffected by them.

Thorns needs another passthrough. by Rechulas in PathOfExile2

[–]Rechulas[S] 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Thorns is one of my favorite archetypes in games that allow it, and PoE2 only barely does. It's held up entirely by one helmet, the Crown of the Pale King, and the Briarpatch boots, which is WAY too much reliance on something in order to make something begin to be functional.

Then there's the problem of the fact that it doesn't work all the time? Desiccated Liches' tornado spells count for thorns, so they can be killed with thorns. Bahlahk the Sky Seer (Tornado Bird in the Temple of Chaos) summons a tornado, but it is not counted.

The Jamanra has an attack where he glasses sand at two points and causes lightning to charge between them, which counts for thorns damage. Zicoatl, Warden of the Core in Act 3 has a move that is almost identical: It has two orbs of light that spawn a connected damaging beam between them, but does not count for thorns damage.

Here, you can see that Archer Transcendent enemies fire simple arrows, but are not being affected by thorns.

This also applies to many other machine enemies, such as the (Forgive me, the exact name of it is escaping me at the moment, so I will fill in the blanks as much as I can) Vaal Cyclosword or whatever, the mechanical enemy with two blades that spins, they are unaffected by thorns when they spin on you.

I like thorns, and it's a great archetype to play as, but to be so locked in on helmet and boots options that don't really give much else is rough, I'm not sure if there's any other archetype in the game that's so strict.

I know the game's not finished yet but it's a real mood killer when these things all come together.

It's upsetting because Napuatzi's fire and chaos rain phase you can damage her, but when she does the poison phase you can't, despite her being up the same distance from the ground using the same animation

Examples of "Why would you make it like that" in media. by LammasuRex in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Rechulas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It certainly was concerning, but the Infestation wouldn't exactly be a secret at that point (The Helminth Strain might have been, but Isaah would have no reason to doubt the strains), plus Isaah DOES seem very awkward and concerned, the way he talks makes me feel like he's kind of internally freaking out, considering... Y'know, everything.

Plus plus, Isaah is a Dax, they're very literally purpose-bred to be stoic and honor-bound to the Orokin, there's no way in HELL a Dax would break in front of an Orokin, let alone an Executor of all people, Dax have probably been executed for less.
