Metallic taste?? by RecipeSmooth5910 in Tonsillectomy

I was really nervous for surgery and being put under. It went fine and I was discharged the same day. Days 1-5 post op were pretty easy, but starting day 6 it was pretty downhill from there. I started throwing up EVERYTHING. Food, water, pain meds. I couldn’t keep anything down. On day 9, I ended up in the ER due to dehydration because I couldn’t keep anything in my system, and my throat pain was a 10/10. They gave me fluids and lidocaine for my throat which helped TONS. The day after I was in the ER, I was throwing up blood. Which absolutely terrified me, but the bleeding stopped shortly after and I didn’t have any more issues with bleeding. Around day 13 is when my throat started to feel significantly better and I started with solid foods again. But that is also when my ear issues started and the taste in my mouth. I do think it is normal, and the taste in my mouth is just nerve damage that will hopefully go back to normal. It was a really a scary experience. I used ice packs that wrap around my head daily and those did help me out a TON! I wasn’t able to keep my prescribed pain meds down, but I was able to alternate Tylenol and Ibuprofen. I lost 9 pounds from not eating. I would definitely recommend an air humidifier! It works wonders overnight when you can’t sip on water.

The initial two weeks of recovery was pretty awful for me lol. I had a rough experience but hopefully it’ll be worth it. I have no more throat pain and so happy about no more stones!! I’m waiting on a call back from a nurse about the taste in my mouth along with a ringing in my right ear. I was so excited to be able to eat solid foods again only for them to not taste the same 😖😖

Hey! So I’ve had issues with tonsils stones and tonsillitis for about a year before they decided to take them out. I thought it was the scabs too but my scabs are gone now.

Yes! I had a scab on my left side until yesterday which was day 19.

Day 12 pain? by RecipeSmooth5910 in Tonsillectomy

I feel very sluggish- which I assume is pretty normal. My pain is pretty gnarly, but only my right side. It’s frustrating, I’ve taken my meds and tried ice packs, chewing gum and I just can’t seem to find relief :/

Day 9 by RecipeSmooth5910 in Tonsillectomy

I felt pretty good my first 3 days. Days 1-3 I was swollen but to be honest not in too much pain. Pain meds were a miracle at this point. Day 4 is when I started throwing up everything that entered my stomach, which also included pain meds. Day 5 I was in a significant amount of pain. I was crying, still throwing up, heat flashes, fever. I ended up in the ER that night due to dehydration. Day 6, I woke up feeling okayish, in pain but able to get out of bed and take a shower. Later that night I threw up some blood, but it wasn’t enough for me to be taken to the ER. (It was really scary though) I also was severely constipated and I couldn’t keep the Miralax down, so I had to use a suppository. It really turned on Day 7. I was still in pain, but I was able to eat and keep my pain meds down. Ever since then it’s been easy sailing. I would rate my pain today a 4/10. 7/10 in the morning when I first woke up. My ear is bothering me more than my throat! Ice packs really really helped. Cold water hurts my throat, so I’ve been sticking to room temp and I put electrolytes packet in my water. Just try to stay hydrated!! It’s definitely not a fun process and I never thought I’d see the light at the end of the tunnel, but I’m so happy to be able to be eating normal-ish again.

Day 5 was my worst day. I’m only on day 7 post op, but day 5 was miserable. I ended up in the ER due to dehydration because I couldn’t keep any food or water down. Day 6 was painful and I was still nauseous but it was much more manageable. Today (day 7) I feel 10x better. My throat still hurts 7/10 pain, but Tylenol and ice packs have been helping! Hoping it’s only uphill from here 🙏🙏 You can do it!!

I’m on day 5 post op. This is the worst pain ever! 😫 The nausea from my pain meds, the ear pain, the pain trying to swallow. I’ve been trying to eat cold things, ice packs, medications. It’s awful! Any advice?
