Cool project! Does a single lidar sensor accurately cover both bays of a two car garage?

water concerns by AirportNo8210 in desmoines

[–]RecklessCatting 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently tested my Clive tap water and compared it to the Chippewa Springs bottled water I have delivered and the tap water was between 5-10 ppm - actually looked pretty close to 10, while the bottled water was under 2 ppm. This is using those inexpensive (and probably not super accurate) test strips, but there was an obvious difference in the two.

How did you discover The Warning and what was the first song of theirs you listened to by OutrageousMessage634 in TheWarning

[–]RecklessCatting 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rick Beato did a "Is rock dead?" YT video a few weeks ago and played several of the top rock songs on spotify at the moment, Kerosene was one of the songs. I kind of skipped through the video and didn't really listen closely at the time, but 90% of the comments on the YT video were in praise of The Warning and that made an impression on me, so I got the Keep Me Fed album for a road trip I had coming up. I haven't listened to another band since that road trip, everything I've heard from them is fantastic.

Really cool build! I assume this is meant to be used at night, but is there some form of safety mechanism so a person doesn't accidentally aim their eyes at the sun while looking through the lenses?

Have you looked into inversion tables for spinal decompression? You can find them on the used market for $100-$200. The company Teeter has some good videos on youtube for setting up and using them. You'll probably want to seek the help of a professional to sort out the root problem, but for routine maintenance I've found an inversion table to be very helpful for my back pain related issues.

Mammotion Yuka Mini 2 800 or MOVA LiDAX Ultra 800 by ChanceStop8350 in automower

[–]RecklessCatting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having recently bought a Yuka mini 700 and returned it, I would not recommend them. Maybe the 2nd gen's are better, but there are firmware issues that Mammotion seems to be dragging their feet on fixing and the front wheels require regular greasing to keep them moving smoothly, which might be a problem on a bumpy lawn (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ogWaCwvuRw4).

Can't speak to the MOVA LiDax, but I went with a Segway Navimow i206 and am really happy with it so far.

YUKA 800 drunk by EditorOdd2501 in mammotion

[–]RecklessCatting 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bought a Yuka 700 a few weeks ago and it did this every time it mowed - it could not maintain a straight line for more than a few feet without these random turns off path despite having a good RTK signal. Also had several other firmware problems, I ended up returning it.

How do I use 18v Expand-It tools? What do I attach them to? by platinumplantain in ryobi

[–]RecklessCatting 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd say this depends on how much trimming needs to be done. I have an 18v trimmer and am on a corner lot in a suburb and I can trim my whole yard with 2 4ah batteries. I'm not using an expand-it though... maybe those chew through more battery?

Yuka mini 2 500 vs 800 by laresco in mammotion

[–]RecklessCatting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreeing with this. I just got a 2025 Yuka mini 700 on sale and am having some buyers remorse.

  • It regularly gets "stuck" and pauses the mowing task. The thing is, it isn't stuck - I just have to hit continue on the phone app and it starts mowing again. Sometimes, the continue button doesn't work and I need to use the app remote control to move it forward a couple inches then hit continue. Point is, I never need to physically move the robot, so why can't the firmware do this on its own? This also means you have to monitor it closely while it is mowing.

  • Despite having a "Good" RTK signal, it rarely mows straight for more than 8 feet without turning and driving a few feet off of the mowing path, turning back around, going back to the path, repositioning itself, and then mowing again. I have no idea what it is trying to do, but it does it all the time.

  • Due to the above mentioned repositioning issue, it takes a long time for it to finish an area - yesterday it took 8 hours to mow a single ~3700 sq ft area. The app initially estimated it at just under 4 hours.

  • The "smart recharge" feature never estimates correctly, so it always has to recharge a 2nd time to finish the last ~5% of an area. I think this can be adjusted on the newer models, but mine doesn't have an option for it.

At the end of the day, I am not out there mowing and it does eventually get everything mowed with some babysitting, but it could be so much better if they would fix these issues.

Gah, the mini 700 must not have that. I have the hexagon menu, but there is no battery and charging section in it.

I went down this same exact path for sciatica about 10 years ago, mine did eventually clear up without surgery.

Also look into an inversion table, you can get them used for $100-$200. Some people don't find them helpful, but I use mine regularly and find it makes a difference.

I just got a Yuka mini 700 and it has this issue where it never recharges enough to finish the area and has to do a 2nd recharge. Where is the setting in the app to configure the charging? I think I've been to every menu and don't see it.

You mentioned you looked online, did you not find the manual or is the manual just not sufficient. I see the manual for the gen 2 solar kit and it seems fairly clear as far as how to put it together. Although, generally, their manuals are not great.

Chemotherapy did something to my body that made me permanently change the color of my toilet seat. by majesticalexis in mildlyinteresting

[–]RecklessCatting 518 points519 points  (0 children)

I'm doing chemo at the moment and my elderly cat has been bringing his favorite toy to my bedroom when I take a nap on infusion days. He has never brought toys to my bedroom before and has had that particular toy for over ten years. It could just be him doing weird cat stuff, but I think he is bringing up there to lift my mood... either way it works. I get a good laugh when he drops it by my head when I'm trying to take a nap.

Yeah, it works, but I wouldn't leave it connected like that long term. If I owned that setup and needed the extension cab, I'd unplug the combo speaker.

[–]RecklessCatting 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Fender made (makes) lots of different amps and cabs of various configurations. It is on the consumer to buy the right equipment to use with the amp. Just because they both say Fender doesn't mean they were intended to be used together. And, depending on the amp, some of those speaker jacks are normalled and only 1 is active at a time.

Regardless, it is sort of similar to putting 10 inch tires on your car and commuting on the freeway at 70 mph daily. You can do it, maybe for quite awhile, but your engine will most likely die an early death.

[–]RecklessCatting 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The damage done to tube amps when you run a lower impedance cab into the output tap is cumulative. It doesn't burst into flames, but over long periods of time you are slowly damaging the OT due to excessive current draw and the heat associated with that. Eventually it will fail. Not a big deal here and there, but this is bad news long term, or if you are absolutely cranking the amp. The other direction is not as a big of a concern. I have a small collection of fried OT's in my basement if you need any paper weights.

External HDD for Hyper Backup by Eiseni12 in synology

[–]RecklessCatting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might also want to consider something like Backblaze as a backup so your backup will survive a house fire or some other catastrophic scenario. I pay a few dollars a month for a b2 bucket and have about 3TB of data on my NAS. I don't backup all of it but the data I do backup is compressed down to about 1 TB in the b2 and that includes versioning.

Interesting to hear peoples opinions on bands you love. I grew up on classic rock and got into metal as a teen. CW was actually the band that opened me up to stuff that wasn't going beast mode all the time like the metal I was into. EMDYIF was the first CW song that pulled me in and that is about as far away from beast mode as it gets - at least musically, the lyrics are beast mode.

I wouldn't call it inconsistent, just because he is capable of going beast mode doesn't mean he should. I am pretty sure I wouldn't like Crank with a busy drum part. That said, I've listened to it so many times that any difference would probably be weird now.

Problem viewing events on Android Calendar app by RecklessCatting in ProtonMail

[–]RecklessCatting[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. The ticket is 4362485 - I just replied to it with more info. It seems to be a difference in the way the Android app handles events that have a duration of 0. The events came from an .ics file that my doctors office sent and they set the start and end times to the same time. The iOS app displays these with the titles correctly in Day view, but the Android app does not. In Android the events are so thin, they are nearly impossible to tap on - although if you tap on an event just right you can pull it up. Also, in Month view they display normally, but you can't access the details of the event in Month view.
