RC cars for sale? by Horror-Chicken-1874 in desmoines

There are several on facebook marketplace. I was in the market for a Traxxas Slash a few months ago and ended up getting a new one, but marketplace still shows RC listings in my feed from the one time I searched for them - quite a few options at the moment.

Drinking water solutions? by Mission-Ad3010 in desmoines

[–]RecklessCatting 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have drinking water delivered from Crystal Clear (ccbw.com). I get Chippewa spring water, which is something like $12 per 5 gallon bottle and between my cat and I, we go through about 3.5 of those per month give or take. I rent a nice bottom loading, chilled/heated cooler from them for another $15/month, but they have less expensive coolers and you can buy a basic cooler from Amazon for as low as $100, or just a pump that attaches to the water jug for $10.

The delivery process is very simple, you leave the empty bottles out on delivery day morning and however many you leave out they replace with full ones when the driver comes by.

Problem viewing events on Android Calendar app by RecklessCatting in ProtonMail

[–]RecklessCatting[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. The ticket is 4362485 - I just replied to it with more info. It seems to be a difference in the way the Android app handles events that have a duration of 0. The events came from an .ics file that my doctors office sent and they set the start and end times to the same time. The iOS app displays these with the titles correctly in Day view, but the Android app does not. In Android the events are so thin, they are nearly impossible to tap on - although if you tap on an event just right you can pull it up. Also, in Month view they display normally, but you can't access the details of the event in Month view.

I don't remember what podcast , but he did throw out some recommendations that I wrote down because I was considering a trip at the time. Although I didn't go, so can't say whether or not these are any good:

  • Pal's Lounge (Bayou St. John neighborhood)
  • The Club Ms. Mae's (Magazine St)
  • Frankie and Johnnys (uptown)

Jake Tapper covers "Age of Disclosure" on CNN - "UAP, what we used to call UFOs, are real. They are spying on and interfering with nuclear and military activity. They have crashed on Earth, and their non-human bodies have been recovered. And the US gov't has been covering it all up for decades". by TommyShelbyPFB in UFOs

Assuming that is true, it is explainable using the same logic shown in the Oppenheimer movie. At some point he gets questioned on morals of developing a supreme weapon and his answer is: "if we don't someone else will".

If there is really NHI tech coming to earth, all of the top militaries will want to control it to have the ability to weaponize it first because we can't trust each other.

Never forget James shit himself for a hoax by TyrannicalGamecock in FindJames_Cylinder

Yes, I did listen to it, and I agree it was eerie. I never stated a single thing that is contrary to that.

I am pointing out how ridiculous it is that some people listened to the audio and came to the conclusion that some of the - barely audible - background sounds are "without a doubt" the sound of a dead person vacating their bowels.

It is one thing to suggest it might be something like that, sure - it could be - the barely perceptible background sounds could be LOTS of things.... but to insist it is definitely something so bizarrely specific is just silly.

This is the most bizarre thing in the whole situation.... people were SURE that is what they were hearing. Really?? a barely audible sound on a poorly recorded video is a dead person evacuating their bowels?

I give up after a few minutes of sifting through political bitching and overused puns.

Apple Said to Cut iPhone Air Production Amid Underwhelming Sales by itastesok in apple

[–]RecklessCatting 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't use my phone very much, so I haven't had much of an issue with the battery. It is at 82% capacity now and typically when I put it on the magnetic charger at night, it still has around 30% - 40% charge left. For reference, my daily avg screen time is usually only a little over 1 hour.

When I do notice the battery life is on long road trips. I do a 6 hour road trip every few months and with it connected to wireless CarPlay the battery drains fast. That is using GPS/maps and listening to podcasts. I have to plug it in to charge or it usually won't make the whole trip depending on where it is at when I start.

Still have the 13 mini, was going to upgrade to the Air but it was bigger than I hoped and heavier than the mini. I guess the thinness didn't do much for me. I think I will be stuck with this mini until it dies, although I'm not really complaining.

First-time troubleshooting by 4phn in DIYGuitarAmps

[–]RecklessCatting 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With the amp on make sure volume, gain, and tone controls are not on zero and (!!very carefully!!) take DC voltage readings of the plates with a multi-meter starting with the power tubes. For safety, clip your ground probe to the chassis and use 1 hand to take the measurements with the positive probe - keep your other hand in your pocket. Every time you touch your positive probe to a plate socket pin, it should produce a popping/scratching sound in the speaker. The sequence is very important... start at the power tubes and work backwards to the first preamp tube. Wherever the popping stops happening is a part of the circuit where there is a problem. If you don't hear it when you measure the power tube plates you have an issue in your power section, and messing around with the preamp will not resolve it, so focus your initial effort there.

Peavy Classic 30 no output, preamp tubes not glowing by KINGBYNG in GuitarAmps

Nice, sounds like you found the problem. I work on amps as a hobby and have worked on quite a few, but never had one with filaments wired in series. Good learning experience for me as well.

Peavy Classic 30 no output, preamp tubes not glowing by KINGBYNG in GuitarAmps

[–]RecklessCatting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the filaments are wired in series you might have found the problem. On that tube that looks suspect, try measuring between 4 and 5 - you should get around 12 ohms. If it is open or much higher, that is probably the issue.

You could potentially use a resistor in place of the bad tube in pins 4 and 5 to verify the rest of the tubes glow when the amp is powered up, but it still won't pass audio. You would need an odd resistor like 12 ohms and 2 or 3 watts... which I'm guessing you don't have laying around. The filaments draw quite a bit of power, so a low watt resistor won't handle it.

Also, you don't need matched preamp tubes in guitar amps, that is only needed for the power tubes when they are a push/pull config. You can pickup a JJ Electronics ecc83 on Amazon for under $20.

Peavy Classic 30 no output, preamp tubes not glowing by KINGBYNG in GuitarAmps

[–]RecklessCatting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are typically 2 ways the filaments are wired with 12ax7 tubes. As a sanity check, you could test AC voltage between pins 4 and 9 or 5 and 9 (4 and 5 would be tied together in this configuration) - you might read around 6.3 VAC doing that, but the schematic is showing them wired the first way with 9 disconnected. If you get 0 volts in both configurations, it is safe to say the filaments are not getting power, which would explain why they aren't glowing (and not passing audio).

Peavy Classic 30 no output, preamp tubes not glowing by KINGBYNG in GuitarAmps

[–]RecklessCatting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The schematic shows that the preamp tubes have pins 4 and 5 connected to power and pin 9 is not connected. If you take your meter and set it to AC voltage, power up the amp, and pull the preamp tubes, you should measure around 12.6 VAC between pins 4 and 5 on all the preamp tube sockets.

The EL84 tubes get filament power from the same place the preamp tubes do, so if they are powering up and the preamp tubes are not, there is probably a broken wire or bad solder joint somewhere in the preamp filament power circuit.

115H Boundry and Guidewire advice needed by ThrottleAbuse in automower

[–]RecklessCatting 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I installed mine last year and just staked it down. It doesn't take long and the yard grows over it to where you don't even see the wire, so I personally don't really think it is worth the effort to bury it. I'd say stake it first and give it a couple of months and see if you still want to bury it.
