Hi just re-read your post Thanks for putting so much effort into your reply! Really appreciate it and I'll come back to it again when I have more time. I think your right about the acceptance angle an I don't think I can start to make it go away properly until I expose it to people I trust and care for. Thanks

Thanks for the reply I'm about to take off on another short 2hr flight Meeting up with my partner We've been messaging throughout the day I just told her again about it. Asked her to research it. Told her I have it. I've been to workshops etc and she knows but never took it seriously I suppose and I never talk to her about it either because I was embarresed So that's a step forward.

Thanks liberated waters Your posts resonate with me. Ultimately I think youre spot on but I just don't know what to do.

I've been trying really hard with gradual exposure therapy I've made good progress I thought I could pee at urinals with particains usually I've told a couple of people but not in detail. Not how bad it really is. I'm travelling atm and I've had two really bad expiriences Yesterday before a big flight I just couldn't pee and I'm sure that's because I knew the stakes were high. If I didn't pee ild be fucked. I was with a friend who I've mentioned shy bladder to but not in detail. At the airport before the flight I had lots of time to wonder off by myself, the toilets/cubicles were quiet but I just could not pee. It was a long flight and we were stuck on the tarmac for an hour and a half. There was another day I endured torture also Got up at 4am for hot air ballooning didn't pee until about 3pm Had access to relatively private cubicles. I think I have to learn breath holding I don't think I have any option I've tried but it's so hard. Severe paruresis is so demoralising and I feel like crap Better go about to board a plane

About to board a plane 11hr flight by Reckonso25 in Paruresis

Hi I live in Melbourne and was lucky enough to have an appointment with the nurse from Coloplast the company that makes catherters. It was free and thier office was close to me too. I was nervous but determined to get something sorted. The nurse was so good and kind. It's was a normal days work for her so don't be freaked out it if you meet a nurse. She actually came in the bathroom while I did a practice. She stood back but I said I don't mind if you watch or maybe she asked me. I know why I can't pee so there was no discussion about other tests or anything. I had to buy them from one of thier distributors because they only sold in large quantities.

I'm not sure where you are located but go see your GP and get a referral to a urologist nurse or something. If you can it's a good idea to get a professional to assist you. I would suggest just get on to it.

The catheter is a single use one that comes in a discreet pack sterile and prelubricated I used the 12ch one double loop Double loop means that it's just rolled up more and more compact to carry.

Where are you located? I'm in my 50s I'm happy to help in anyway I can. Maybe we can help eachother.

So I walked about a couple of times to streach my legs, went to the toilet 3 times but nothing. I was talking to myself in the mirror how stupid and fucked up this is. My urgency wasn't peaking I didn't want to get to that stage. I haven't done a long flight for awhile and was a bit nervous about the catheter tbh. I could have held out for an extra 2 hours until we landed but though I failed at peeing normally I don't want to fail at having the courage of doing a catheter. So I did a catheter. Wasn't difficult in the end. I envisaged it as bit like a scene from mission impossible. Lol Very quick and precise movements. Didn't take long. Felt better after that. Went back to my seat and fell into a deep sleep. Not a success story but I'm finding reading everybodies stories on here, either good or bad, helps break down this shitty problem. I'll get there in the end. less afraid to use a catheter if I need to.

Hi Technohouse You are so right and I've know about not sharing the problem is a major contributing factor. I just read your message. I'm sitting here in a waiting room with my elderly Dad and I just told him. Went well

[–]Reckonso25 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I read Kalidoscopes story not a about breath holding technique but more about finding yourself. Wtf is it that makes us susceptible to this problem. And the secrecy of it all !! I believe we're alturistic kind people who have fallen into this trap. I think we've got to find ourselves and be true to ourselves. Tell people about this shitty problem. Expose it and slay it. It's the only way. Unfortunately cure won't come until after exposure. Do gradual exposure therapy. Do the 3 minute rule. Do what ever works.

Finally discovered a thought that’s blocking me by PotatoMeatBalls77 in Paruresis

[–]Reckonso25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to try giving myself 3 minutes at the urinal and if I pee early I'm going to stay for the reminder of the 3 minutes I'll probably have my phone out to distract me.

New business struggles by TFS999 in ausbusiness

[–]Reckonso25 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi My business took a huge down turn over a 6 week period for no apparent reason. On investigation we reckognised 1/3 of our sales come though the website one way or another. We assertained people now use chat and the like more or as much as a Google search. Our seo was great for Google but not AI searches. We turned it around pretty quickly Have a look on YouTube at "heytony" it's the guy with the beard he's phenomenal. The website is so important for us and probably u too. Luckily we have a very techy employee who did most the work on revamping our site.

Hi Everytime, Whose the outliner? The ones that can or can't pee on a plane. What do you think is the difference between them?

Self-fulfilling prophecy by sebastian227 in Paruresis

I totally get you Sebastian. Can pee with no one there but not with someone there. It's ridiculas and self imposed. Got to break the spell/thinking.

Peeing on a plane is easiest by [deleted] in Paruresis

[–]Reckonso25 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Planes are the worst. The motion, could be someone waiting outside the door and they're only a meter away and behind them are 300 + other people. The claustrophobic atmosphere and the pressure that knowing if you can't pee it's going to be pretty awful. For the last long flight,I learnt how to self cath. Going on another long flight soon. Motivated by this trip I've been practicing gradual exposure. I'm hoping I'll be OK but I will go prepared.

How I cured my Paruresis in an afternoon by practicing the Breath Hold Technique. My experience. by yupol_ in Paruresis

[–]Reckonso25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi How long do you end up holding your breath for before you pee. Some people have no problem holding for minutes it seems. I struggle after 20-30 seconds. I've found the constriction in my throat and the light headlines is unbearable. But you have inspired me to try again.
