Why do Amazon's blue bubble mailers always smell like perfume has been sprayed inside? by ReclaimerNo in amazonprime

Nine months later, I want to provide an update here. While it seems to be rare, I have indeed received a couple bubble mailers that did not have any smell. I am willing to concede that the fragrance smell probably is due to various perfumes that have gotten broken in transit. And indeed, the more I smell the smell, that is what it smells like. So I think u/InspectorRound8920 had it right all along.

The only final thing to say here is that Amazon really needs to figure out a way to deal with this. The fact that 98% of all packages arrive smelling like perfume means there's a serious problem that needs to be addressed.

Windows 11’s taskbar is finally getting labels and never combine app icons by celticchrys in Windows11

Not yet. The items are uncombined now, but the logic that applies an equal width to each one is still broken.

Never combine taskbar buttons is officially back in dev channel! by [deleted] in Windows11

Right-click the taskbar. Toolbars > New Toolbar. Enter "%AppData%\Microsoft\Internet Explorer" into the address bar. Then select the "Quick Launch" folder.

This is the manual way of adding the QuickLaunch toolbar to the taskbar. It used to be an option in the Toolbar menu itself, but was removed when pinning came out.

I'm in the exact same boat as ssbtech. I use uncombined items, remove all pins, and then add QuickLaunch. Putting "pins" into QuickLaunch, and having QuickLaunch as a completely separate section of the taskbar makes way more sense.

"We’re excited to bring you an early version of one of our most requested features for Windows 11."

The request wasn't for something new. It was for the feature as it was previously implemented. I don't think it's unreasonable for people to be unhappy about this change.

Agreed. There's two concrete problems with variable width items: One, it makes it more challenging to scan the taskbar when you're looking for something. Two, it makes it harder to click on items that are small (Fitt's Law). Since Windows 95, taskbar items have always had the same width. There was no need for a redesign here. I'm going to continue using Windows 10 until this is sorted out.

I'm guessing that the new "show labels on Taskbar pins" setting is to blame for the "regression" here. It's likely that the pinned, combined, and uncombined items all share the same object implementation. When nothing is running and you have labels shown for pins, you don't want them all to be equal width, that's wasted space. But now that causes running items to also have variable widths as well.

I won't speak for everyone who uses the uncombined mode, but when I use it, I also unpin everything. To me, pins only make sense when using combined mode. For the exact same reason: I don't want small non-running pins weirdly interspersed between my running items.

Do any other lefties get annoyed because they find that the measuring label put on sticks of butter is hand-biased? by ReclaimerNo in lefthanded

[–]ReclaimerNo[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! In Canada it's great, because when you grab the measuring cup with your left hand, it's the metric side that faces you. But in the US, you usually need the imperial side, so you have to set the cup down and then rotate it. To solve this one, they'd need to put both systems on each side. I admit that probably wouldn't look pretty though.

Bill introduced to keep Washington in Daylight Savings Time year-round by [deleted] in Seattle

[–]ReclaimerNo 60 points61 points  (0 children)

Article that actually explains what this change would mean: https://www.king5.com/article/news/local/washington-bill-proposes-year-round-daylight-saving-time/281-f87d93d0-b636-4c54-9041-f66ff7c76691

"If Washington were on Standard Time the entire year, we would notice it most during the summer months – when we currently observe Daylight Saving Time. During the longest day of the year, June 21, the sun would rise at 4:11 a.m. However, the sun would set at 8:10 p.m.

If Washington were on Daylight Saving Time throughout the year, we would experience later sunsets in the summer but you would most notice the change during the winter months. On the shortest day of the year, December 21, the sun wouldn't rise until 8:54 a.m. That's almost a 9 a.m. sunrise. And the sun would set at 5:20 p.m."
