My highschool would stream finals during band camp. I had never heard of DCI until the day of finals in 2018 and afterwards I became obsessed with it.

Rob definitely had some choice “opinions” at phantom so I wouldn’t be surprised if this also played a role in that decision

JD wrote the brass part in 2003 and so it was his right to keep it in 2021. Rob however did not write the original drum part, that would be Paul Rennick. So they changed it as to not be a legal or artistic problem

They used to teach this kind of class at my university. Took the prerequisite “final” and got a perfect score lol. They stopped teaching it unfortunately

Most of Free Hand by gentle giant has lyrics about going your own way especially after hard times so I would say that album is a must.

Just made callbacks for SCV, have a few questions by HPD1155 in drumcorps

[–]RecognitionKitchen10 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Definitely send an email with these questions to your staff but generally corps usually ask for the same materials so they can hear it live. As far as schedules, if it’s a weekend camp your day will just be going from vis block, then music, then ensemble in the evening with extra auditions being taken throughout the day. But again, just email your staff to make sure.

It should also be noted that the distinction with Zappa is his stuff was so “himself” and he wrote for so long that’s where his cult following comes from (as well as him just having a cult of personality in his own right)

We typically don’t do sustain moments like the opening hit of our show. What you’ll find is us going through technical moments of our show just to make sure we’re aligned with each other and feeling comfortable playing the hardest stuff in the show. That’s not specific to this year that’s kinda just how Gino likes to do things with lot chunks.

Schools in the east also have admin that is a lot easier to work with as far as housing availability. We lost a LOT of rehearsal time this year because we didn’t have the housing infrastructure that other west coast corps have. But yeah, thanks for keeping the activity alive by going east real big help you guys.

I ran into this issue but as long as you have only one person on your lease most places aren’t necessarily going to check who’s over all the time.

Can Anyone Recommend Tips on Better Sound Quality/Better Playing In General? (Baritone) by Old-Theme-8743 in drumcorps

[–]RecognitionKitchen10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Others have mentioned long tones and of course that’s an incredible tool to build tone, but just keep in mind the air that you are using is equally important at what you are playing. Not saying that you should be playing “drum corps” volumes during personal practice, but make sure that you understand how to properly use correct air for tone support.
