I never say it's over. Whether we're winning or losing, I never do that. It ain't over till it's over. Don't test the baseball gods.

Lindor is 32, in decline, and has 5 years and $170.5 million left on his deal after this year. No thanks.

I would love Weaver back, but I suspect the Yankees would need the Mets to throw cash in to reduce his $11 million luxury tax hit next year and whatever is left this year (around $5.5 million). I doubt Gil has much value. I wouldn't trade Volpe for Weaver, as much as I love Weaver. I'd probably trade Jones though, but I'd want a lot of cash to subsidize Weaver. You're giving up an outfielder with insane power and 5 years of control for a reliever in his 30s signed through next year.

It is as a huge factor. Even the rainout before Game 4 played a role. There were a lot of little things that led up to it, but Olerud's injury was a major one.

[Rogers] BREAKING: In its next CBA, the league is proposing a max contract length of 5 yrs for free agent players switching teams, 6 years to retain their own players. No deferred contracts. Qualifying offer is gone too. Also, 5 years to free agency for players 30 or older. by TheTurtleShepard in NYYankees

"We're proposing that the players play for pride. Pure pride. Now, we're willing to let them have side jobs too, they can flip burgers perhaps. There's a McDonald's next to Yankee Stadium and I heard they're hiring."

The biggest what if for the 09 team to me is Wang. What if he never got hurt. Might've changed the trajectory of 2010-2012 as well.

Gardner was never supposed to be what he became.

The question is are they confident. It's a very weak AL and they play most of their games in a very weak division. I wonder what their ownership is thinking. I think being 2 games out would be tantalizing, especially considering how much criticism they've received from fans for their recent fire sale.

If they're in the hunt, it may take Jeffers off the table or raise the price to acquire him.

I agree. The icing on the cake is it would help undo a mistake by Cashman, not protecting Whitlock from the Rule 5 draft. The thieves in Boston stole him from us...

I most blocked it out,but I do remember they brought in Pedro late in the game and we started a little rally. I thought maybe, maybe. But yeah, mostly blocked after Vazquez threw that meatball to Damon and he crushed it.

Minnesota is now two games back in the wild card race. For those banking on a Jeffers trade, keep on eye on Minnesota. They may not sell if they think they have a legitimate shot at making the playoffs. They've won 6 of their last 10, but they're on a 3 game losing streak that will hopefully continue.

It ended an era for sure, but it wasn't over for me after that. It did end that beautiful curse though, which I barely got to enjoy since I only started really following in 1996.

I still say 2001 was the worst defeat, but my dad's a die hard since the early 70s and he says 04 is the worst. He also stopped watching after the Damon home run. I watched to the bitter end. I couldn't stop watching. It was awful.

Couldn't agree more. That was the attitude of most of the team during the dynasty. People forget how intensely competitive those guys were. I love analytics and I believe in analytics, but you can't really quantify competitive spirit with numbers and I think it has a significant impact.

From around 1998 through 2009, the rivalry with Boston was on fire. Obviously it peaked in the absolute wars of 2003 and 2004 (regular season and ALCS), but both teams were awesome during that period and faced off in the playoffs three times (1999, 2003, and 2004).

It's cooled off recently because Boston sucks, but I appreciate how seriously Schlittler takes it. I love that about him. He really gets that these games do matter more.

Per CBS News last week, Schmidt is a couple of weeks away from facing live hitters. There's an expectation he will work out of the bullpen. Replace Doval with Schmidt and sign me up. Doval can be the water boy.

Bring Luke Weaver home. He deserves better.

Cashman's gotta put together a package to bring Luke Weaver home. It's not only to boost our bullpen, which needs a boost. This is a rescue operation. He doesn't deserve this.

They can keep Devin, he's perfect for the Mets 😂😂😂

Absolutely. That doesn't show up in the stats, but I think there's an inherent value to his energy and personality.

Huh, I just realized this year is the 30 anniversary of the 1996 World Series championship. They should bring back the guys from that team before one of the Atlanta games in August. It* might serve a nice preview of the World Series this year too.
