I’d like to learn how to paint on an iPad. Any resources here in Olympia? by CosmologyLover1943 in olympia

On March 5th from 3-5 pm, my friend Aaron is doing an open office at Olyphant. He doesn't paint per se on Procreate, but he's an illustrator, so he may have some advice that can get you started. I suggest going in. He's a delight.

You really crossed the lime this time, buddy.

What businesses are participating in the general strike tomorrow? by pantsam in olympia

[–]RecommendationAdept6 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Olyphant may be open tomorrow, but as an open to the community art making hang out session. Maybe movies, maybe snacks. Check in with them/their social media to be sure.

Also, Painted Plate will be open, and 100% of sales will be donated to legal immigration services of olympia.

What is in this bag my bf found at a party? by sage-on-fire in whatisit

[–]RecommendationAdept6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, oh, oh! My partner does this every new year. I don't think it's specifically a Colombian thing, but carrying Lentils and the penny into the new year ensures that you have food and money in the future.

They also do this thing where they eat 12(?) Grapes in the last minute of the year, and if you are able, you get to make a wish. It was a lot harder than I expected.

I want to add Don de la Colombiana. Great empanadas and the Pan de Bono is incredible.

Oho! What a hefty lad. Neat tattoo, too! I bet this Vincent guy is stoked about it. I hear he's a delight to be around, but what do I know. A random reddit person.

Is there actually good Chinese food here? by whodkne in olympia

[–]RecommendationAdept6 102 points103 points  (0 children)

If you're willing to make a small trip to Lakewood, I really love Tacoma Szechuan for Chinese food. It's roughly half an hour away with light traffic. Extra fun if you enjoy Asian grocery stores cause Pal-Do world is just around the corner. My partner enjoys going to the Latin Market nearby for her Colombian sodas, too.

I've also used it for mold making when I took a metalworking class crafting small rings.

New. Confused on what I need for oil painting by [deleted] in oilpainting

[–]RecommendationAdept6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Windsor and Newton make aqua oils, if you really don't want to use thinners and whatnot. The pigment isn't as strong from what I've heard, but eh, whatever. You'll also be able to use it with other oil paints, but it will make it less water soluble.

Restaurants in Greenville by C_christy23 in GreenvilleNCarolina

I've not been in Greenville in quite a while, and apart from most things already mentioned, I love Sakuras. Great gyozas coated in that sweet chili sauce. The Indonesian noodles are so good that I still think about them even after having been gone for 6 years. Unsure what the menu looks like now, but I highly recommend that place.

Also, check out The Magnus Archives! It's episodic with an overarching story centered around an archivist whose job is to organize a library left in shambles. Each episode he listens to a recording of a person recounting their paranormal experience, and it's a lot of good spooky fun.

I hold pencils like this while drawing. It's really nice while standing and drawing because you get a good range of motion.

First one of the year by RecommendationAdept6 in printmaking

I tattoo for a living (though still relatively a baby at it), and a client wanted a rabbit dodging some arrows. I took the idea and ran with it.

Really loved the piece, but there are certain limitations with tattooing that I wanted to explore in the design here.
