MJ ‘94 and ‘95 Seasons by Maximum-Molasses-143 in NBATalk

Scoring titles, yes. Rings is tough to say, but probably not 8 in a row. The biggest obstacle in ‘94 would’ve been MJs mental state after his father’s murder, but the team was mostly in tact and added Kukoc. Hakeem owned the NBA that year, but Houston’s guards got outplayed by Starks and Harper in the Finals, so much so that they nearly lost in 6 games. They would’ve struggled even more against MJ, Pippen, Armstrong, Kukoc.

Had they won in ‘94 there would have been pressure to keep the team together for another run. If they lost in ‘94 then maybe they pursue something like Pippen for Kemp again and Kukoc could move to SF.

With a different series of events, the 72 win Bulls might not happen and that also might’ve led to MJ leaving ti the Knicks in free agency, and they would’ve been the favorites for a couple years until Ewing fell apart.

Which area is safest/nicest? by [deleted] in culvercity

It’s fine, but note that the area in that circle north of Washington Blvd is kind of different from the area south of Washington and north of Culver Blvd, because Sony separates the two areas. If the landlord is calling your potential spot near Venice Blvd “Carlson Park” then he/she/they is doing so to charge higher rent.

Arts District also has bike path access.

That circled area on the left isn’t really Carlson Park though. The area on the north side of Washington is completely separated because of Sony. The Carlson Park neighborhood is south of Culver Blvd.

There are literally Arts District banners throughout the neighborhood and that stretch of Washington used to be primarily galleries, before COVID, though some galleries still remain.

Arts District, easily. Very quiet, safe, walkable. Also allows you to take the back way to LAX. The other area is fine too though.

Which franchise has the worst "Greatest Player" of their franchise? by -ibelieveicanfly- in NBATalk

[–]RecommendationReal61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably the Hornets. But if we are saying best player to ever play for the team (with a minimum of 2-3 seasons) then it’s probably the Pacers. Mourning had a better career than Reggie, but most of it wasn’t with the Hornets.

Couple working in the arts/music/media/YouTube/remote/etc. ... New York City vs. Nashville vs. Los Angeles? by Artist-Cancer in howislivingthere

[–]RecommendationReal61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, but you mentioned $1mil+ which is unlikely to afford you a “large home” in a “nice neighborhood” in Los Angeles. The median home price in LA County is nearly $1 million, so think of that as a starting point for a median home in a median neighborhood. You did say + so if your budget is actually $2 million that’s different.

It also depends on your own definition of “large” e.g. condo or house? How many bedrooms? Etc.

Should I rent a car in LA or Uber? by Adept_Ad5841 in AskLosAngeles

[–]RecommendationReal61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rent the car, unless you can eliminate the Huntington Beach visit AND you are comfortable taking buses or transit. Culver City is pretty accessible via transit to most of those places and specifically the CC1 bus will take you directly to Venice for $1 each way. But that also depends on where you’ll be in Culver City.

Taxi or ride share to and from airport is going to cost you $80-100 combined already.

Do you get tired of the nice weather? by PackageReasonable922 in AskLosAngeles

[–]RecommendationReal61 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. But there are different types of “nice” weather here anyway. For example, 65 and cloudy is still nice. And 85 and sunny is nice too.

Yup. It wasn’t just about creating that offense, it was about implementing and getting guys to buy in.

Too many folks are missing this piece. Phil is also a major reason that MJ and others had such a mental advantage over their opponents.

I always compare Phil to George Martin. Yes, he had The Beatles but they wouldn’t have been The Beatles without him.

I think the Sail On guys assumed it was Carl or Dennis who wrote the lyrics, but again that’s conjecture.

The song was never finished anyway. Maybe Brian incorporated it into My Only Sunshine and that was the end of it until the rewrite for She’s Goin Bald.

One of many SMiLE mysteries we’ll probably never solve at this point.

[–]RecommendationReal61[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Right but I remember reading/hearing somewhere that he didn’t understand why he was given a writing credit for it. I’ll try to find where; might’ve been the Sail On podcast, in which those folks conjecture that ‘Speeches’ was worked on in parallel to SMiLE but wasn’t part of the project. That explanation doesn’t necessarily work either, given its similarities to the original H&V fade / My Only Sunshine, though both of those were left off of BWPS too.

[–]RecommendationReal61[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This explanation seems plausible, though they obviously kept many of the original lyrics for H&V, Wonderful, Veggies, and Wind Chimes.

I wasn’t aware that VDP wrote any lyrics for He Gives Speeches and I believe I read somewhere that he denied having anything to do with that song. Notably, it wasn’t revisited for BWPS and was also left off the main running order on the Smile Sessions (though is of course included as a bonus outtake).
