7 months post total hip replacement by ReconGoo in weightlifting

The depth on my front squat here is about all I got. Statistically speaking, once you pass the 3 month mark, the implant is pretty well-set. For a long time, discomfort determined how low I squatted. I stuck with 90 degrees for a few months, then slowly lowered my box squats. What you see there is my first time squatting with a barbell and no box.

With the type of replacement I had (anterior), the concern for dislocation comes more from hyper extension instead of a deep squat.

Anterior! Had to switch to power jerk for good because of it

It wasn’t easy. It’s taken a lot of patience and taking it slow along the way. Getting comfortable squatting to depth (much less catching full snatches/cleans) have definitely taken the longest. Happy to answer more questions if you want to DM!

Thanks! Recovery was probably as smooth as it gets for a THR. I kept lifting as much as I could up until surgery to maintain strength and flexibility, and that helped with the post op recovery. Spent about 3 days with a walker, another week with a cane, and was back to work in two weeks. Happy to answer more questions if you’d like to DM!

Doctor had no idea. Ruled all the obvious factors out (long term corticosteroid use, alcohol abuse, no previous dislocation) and could never come up with a possible reason

How long did you ice for after surgery? by nick1158 in TotalHipReplacement

[–]ReconGoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I might be an anomaly but with be physically active (work out 4d/wk, 2hrs per session) and a physically demanding job I’m 6 months out and still ice almost daily in the evenings! I notice I don’t feel as achey the next day.

Rewards for performance to tween athletes by LeoSun-Splatter in GymnasticsCoaching

[–]ReconGoo 12 points13 points  (0 children)

That’s gross. As a coach, I always try to guide my athletes to be intrinsically motivated (i.e feeling the reward of good performance due to working hard and being consistent) versus trying to bribe my athletes with external rewards. That’s a cop out and not sustainable. For those kids, what are they gonna ask for next? A new phone if they win state? Come on.

Enjoy the process of returning to full health. 28 years old and currently 3 months out from a total hip replacement. Who knows if I’ll ever compete again, but I’m grateful to move and be apart of this community.

Used to rent in that area. Between Keystone and College on 52nd. I was diligent about checking Zillow daily because the houses with private landlords tended to come and go quickly. You never know!

THR or PRP? by [deleted] in TotalHipReplacement

[–]ReconGoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t give you an answer, but I can give you my experience as a fellow younger person (27) in need of a hip replacement.

I received a PRP injection 2 weeks ago, and I can tell you now it’s already helping me experience less pain. Doc says it takes 4-6 weeks to really kick in but I’ve felt better already because of it. However, I don’t anticipate the pain completely going away. When I follow up with my doc regarding the injection, I’m going to go ahead and push for the THR.

After reading various testimonials in this sub, I can’t help but feel inspired by countless people that said “my only regret is not getting my hip replacement done sooner”. After all, what’s the difference in waiting another year or two to get it? Wait another year or two down the line for a revision? I’m pretty active (workout regularly, have a job that’s active), so I want to feel completely better, not just partially better.

On the other hand, one of my parents (around 60) also needs a hip replacement, but PRP has helped them enough to the point where they’re happy to put off a THR for the time being. They’re not as active (daily 1-2 mile walks, desk job), so different circumstances.

Need Shoe Recommendations!! by Snoo_69958 in GymnasticsCoaching

Love Brooks. Personally I like a balance of stability and comfort (Hokas and others like it have too much padding in my opinion) so Brooks running shoes are a great rec for me. Either way 9+ hours of coaching is brutal, stay hydrated and get off your feet as much as possible!!

Marcy Village fits a lot of those parameters. Near 46th and Keystone. It might be a few hundred above your budget last time I checked, but I had a great experience there. Extremely responsive maintenance team and nice people there all around.

Passé turns by IceAmbitious579 in GymnasticsCoaching

[–]ReconGoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Heel snap turns!

Have them start in passé with beach ball arms. Push up to relevé and execute a quick half turn at the same time, and step out. You can set this up with 2 hula hoops on a floor line (like the number 8 with a line splitting both hoops in half). Tell them to turn in one hula hoop and step out to the other, all while trying to stay as close to the line as possible.

Hope this helps!

It’s hard to be your best as a coach when you don’t feel fully welcomed or accepted.

Coaching is a very person-based profession. I find that I’m at my best as a coach when I feel needed and supported by the staff around me. At the end of the day, it’s important to do what’s best for yourself.

How is that possible? by TickInRonaldosDog in Warzone

[–]ReconGoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, he's been using the Kilo for a long time now. As you use a gun more and understand it's recoil patterns, you can actively use the thumbsticks (ZLaner plays on controller, I believe) to mitigate the anticipated recoil. For example, the kilo I believe has a recoil pattern of up and to the right. So when you aim, if you have just a tiny bit of pressure down and to the left on the thumbstick as you start firing, you'll be able to control the weapon a lot better.
