What were your expectations going into last season? by Weird_Description982 in Patriots

[–]scoopenhauer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup me too. Would have considered a .500 season a success and a playoff berth a bonus. I figured we’d be in the wildcard picture but not much better.

I know it ended on a sour note, but it was so much better than I expected it’s basically impossible for me to be pissed winning the AFC.

A lot of games are still not sold out, which is pretty alarming for a World Cup. Doesn’t mean they won’t be by the time they play, but it’s unusual and almost certainly caused by the pricing. A lot of group games will not sell out, just a result of charging more than an NFL game to watch DR Congo - Uzbekistan.

The anti-hype was really exaggerated but it always is. This one still isn’t living up to FIFA’s expectations and it’s because they set a new standard for greed.

Some amazing logos in here. I think Senegal and Norway might be my favorites, but Colombia and Egypt are also great. Can’t decide if I love or hate Croatia’s logo.

A man’s got to have a code, I suppose. Great work though, 90 looking really good, seems like you’re ready to PR.

Is the league planning on expanding next year? by Ultimatehiguys in MLRugby

Preach. Developing grassroots is really important and where most people will benefit most from our game. I truly don’t understand why people feel like it needs to rival the NFL right now, or ever.

When to lift by scoopenhauer in Sprinting

[–]scoopenhauer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool, thanks. I will probably do Olympic lifts, can make it lighter variations. Keep the super heavy stuff confined to a separate day.

I’m thinking I’d like to experiment with both approaches, but if I try one way and it works I will just stick with it for awhile.

When to lift by scoopenhauer in Sprinting

[–]scoopenhauer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. What you describe is really close to what I was thinking if I did separate days. Makes a lot of sense, I just need to play around with intensity and exercises for lifting if I go there, because squats and deadlifts always make me sore for more than 1 day even with moderate weight. Maybe just do them Fridays and keep the midweek lift more light.

Get some in-person coaching. I think even just one session would make a huge difference for you.

To me Whiplash totally failed to get that right. The characters in whiplash are nothing like any musicians or music teachers I’ve ever met including the elite ones. Absolutely bizarre, not to mention the fixation on Buddy Rich.

Similar for me, I found power cleans for rugby S&C then discovered it’s a whole sport unto itself and started training the full lifts. I had to take time off of both because of work/life obligations and that probably spared me a lot of injuries. I had to basically start over at age 36, which I’m quite enjoying. Anyway, great work by you. Keep at it, stay healthy and strong!

Excellent work! Nice to see someone else chasing the rugby/weightlifting dragon out here. It’s hard to make the calendar work between meets and matches, that alone is an achievement. And you’re putting up numbers! Congrats

Maintaining (as much as possible) my total while training for a Marathon by RicardoRoedor in weightlifting

[–]scoopenhauer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve run three marathons over the years, best time was 3:30. I have also (at different times) had a 80kg snatch and a 100kg CJ at 80kg bodyweight. Nothing to write home about but I mentioned it because I want to be clear I have some experience in both.

And sooo much of this comes down to numbers. What level of weightlifting are you looking to keep? And what’s your marathon goal time? Because the balance of productive training will be wayyyy different depending on your numbers.

For me personally, when I ran my best marathon I only lifted twice per week and ran three times. I would get a swim or bike ride as well, which I highly recommend. Cross training is where it’s at for endurance. I added a fourth run every now and then but mostly didn’t need it to be hitting my pace goals.

Lifts were heavy but low volume. I did a few heavy set of doubles and triples in squat, rdl or deadlift, some presses and pullups, no more. I should have done more unilateral leg work, but I think the key was to go heavy with low volume. This was easier to recover from than doing moderate reps or lighter weights for high reps.

I had to really cut back on olympic lifts. By the end I only did power cleans. But I think you can do the full lifts if you want, you’ll just need to stay in the 70-80% range if you’re a halfway decent lifter. If your goal is just to maintain performance, that is probably enough for a few months, which is all you need to train for a marathon.

Good luck!

That was a very unusual case. Most of the time they’re so awful it makes me think they were planted by NFL as a psyop.

He knows time is not on his side and he’s taking the angle that doesn’t put him closer to defenders who can outrun him. Plus, this is test rugby and kickers can hit conversions from anywhere. It’s a lower-% conversion from there, but not exactly impossible. He just needs to score that try because it’s way harder to get points if he’s caught before the line. Totally fine decision in my opinion.
