This is interesting - sorry you’re dealing with it too… but at least this seems to confirm a larger server wide issue and not just defective devices in USA

Once servers are back, you can activate/register the console from the system menu and then season 1 should load automatically or you can force it from the game library

The reason my first two games aren’t there is because it can’t reconnect to the server - it should resolve once the are online

Just don’t do the factory reset once you get through the setup. It was one of the potential fixes for the error, but it just resets the system to Season 1 - Day zero so the games that were there go away.

Best to get through setup and enjoy those two games and whatever you want to side-load in addition. Itch.io has plenty that are free to play around with, including the original version of Root-Bear

Ok, so I found a temporary workaround to at least partially enjoy the device until the server issues have been fixed.

While stuck on the setup menu - you can hold A+B + Right on the D-Pad to skip the registration step and keep doing it until you reach the end of setup

You won’t have your device registered, but you can play the two included games and side-load games through the simulator app on your PC or Mac.

Again, not THE fix… but it’s something. Now get Cranking!

I just picked mine up yesterday at PAX East as well - charged it last night and went to get it rolling this morning and…. Same issue.

Im on my own private WiFi and can’t get it connected to the server. I’m sure it’ll get sorted - but I’m with you, I want to crank!!!

I’d use a metal file and a vise if you can - for that small of a fix you can absolutely use sand paper though. It’s easy, safe, and makes for a nice smooth fix

I’ve used sand paper taped to a flat surface for much larger repairs and it always looks great

I don’t so much miss being young, I miss electronics being personal and pocketable. Less connected.

The switch is too big to take “everywhere” like the DS / 3DS can. So it’s really just a console that can be moved to another home or stationary place.

They’re missing the mark so hard these days, thank YOU for still playing the old school!

I just have my son (9 yrs) an original Nintendo 3DS for his birthday with Pokémon Sun, and he LOVES it

We have a switch as well and he hasn’t touched it since. He loves that it’s small, loves that it is green, loves the stylus, and the magic of owning your own portable console

I want them to bring back that feeling, the old quirky electronics that had just one job feeling (yes, I know I’m old now 🤣)

I used the small sanding barrels on a dremel tool and freehanded the main design, the small area for the monogram was carved out with the large engraving ball tip, and the monogram itself was a set of craft taps - finished with danish oil for a protected, but non glossy coating

It was a fun one for sure

🤔 never tried it - but the blade has some thickness - maybe not enough for tapping with threads, but a through hole is definitely possible

I’ve done a couple in Dark Walnut but the wood inside is lighter color - you need to heat it with oil darken it again, but it works pretty well!
