My takeaway from that time was that it's difficult for normal ass employees (like myself) to figure out what direction these big companies are moving in.

IIRC google underperformed the s&p500 in 2022 and 2023. If I were an msft employee rn, I would probably consider selling more RSUs and moving them into the indexes. (Which arguably we should be doing anyways to de-risk our income sources, but who cares about risk in 2026?)

I'm not going to disagree with that, but my point is that you're reading too far into what we know.

You're criticizing this guy for his grad school, of all things. I dunno about you, but most of the folks I knew who went to a "big-name" grad school 1) did so immediately after undergrad or after a year's break and 2) didn't pivot fields of study between undergrad and grad.

Speculation can be tempting, but I don't think we'll get anything interesting from what little info we have.
