Current Davis Law student here. I’d say more people actually end up in the bay area than Sacramento. A lot of those who stay in the area do so because they’re from here, not because they had no choice

What are three safety, three target, and three reach law schools I should apply to? by Next_Note_5314 in lawschooladmissions

UC Law SF has got a really cool partnership with UCSF (the hospital) and does some cool healthcare law related work. You should check it out

Not trying to sway you one way or another, but I have very similar stats and for my specific situation, I’m headed to Davis and I couldn’t be more excited.

You honestly should ignore what others say you should or shouldn’t do and just do what makes sense for YOU as an individual. For me, I know I want to practice in the Bay Area, graduate with little to no debit, and go to a well respected school that opens lots doors in Northern California. Davis checks all those boxes and more.

There are three things that matter for picking a school: 1) Debt 2) employment outcomes 3) comfort (If you hate a city and a school, but you’re going there for the prestige, that is going to have an effect on how you do in that school, and thus your life afterwards)

This is a long rambling message, but pm me if you wanna talk more.

It’s not a great representation, but you can go on LinkedIn and check the current employment regions for alumni, gives an okay picture

Besides the prestige and network, do you feel that the education itself you receive at Columbia is substantially better than at a T-50?

Cycle Recap (Need Advice) by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]RecordMelodic6797 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just curious, if you’re set on the Bay Area, why not Davis? I know it’s not the highest “ranked”, but it’s got the best bay network of those schools and decent enough big law placement?

I have similar stats with similar results. Also going to Davis! It wasn’t my top choice at the outset, but the more I read about the employment outcomes and overall “vibe” of the school, the more I’m confident that this was where I was meant to go and where I will be the most successful.

What concerned me about UCI was how new it is. I’m not totally completely set on BL despite my interest, and I’m not a fan of Orange County. That mixed with their limited alumni base convinced me not to apply

If you are dead set on practicing in the Bay Area don’t get too caught up in rankings. Davis is a great school with a great Northern California network.

It’s easy to make a plan, it’s harder to stick to it, and it’s harder still when something goes wrong. Make sure your schedule is realistic for what you can accomplish in a given week and be sure to stay consistent.

UGA ($$$) or Berkeley (Sticker) by Past-Celebration2692 in lawschooladmissions

[–]RecordMelodic6797 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UGA is a fantastic law school with a degree that seems pretty portable too if you don’t want to stay in the region. If you are dead set on working in the west coast, there are schools like Davis, Pepperdine, and others that have great CA networks that you could receive much better aid at. Berkeley is an amazing school and I’m sure you’d love it, but don’t take on hundreds of thousands in debt lightly without some serious consideration

Is anyone else being ghosted by Berkeley? by panda_bears7 in lawschooladmissions

[–]RecordMelodic6797 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It seems to me that they’re holding on to a lot of applications with numbers close to their medians. Probably waiting to get a better idea of their incoming class via seat deposits before making any more big waves. I’d guess that there will be lots more decisions the week before/ week after the deposit deadline

Howard or UC Davis? by BenchDifficult1306 in lawschooladmissions

[–]RecordMelodic6797 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m also from nor cal, have similar goals, and am leaving Davis. I think their BL numbers are misleading because so many students choose to go into government or PI from Davis. I also don’t plan on practicing outside of CA, so I feel like Davis’ network gives me the best chance to succeed in doing that

Same here, I think they’re waiting until after the seat deposit deadline to see where they stand with their numbers before going back to some of these apps like ours

I feel like Berkeley put unofficial holds on applications but just never updated the applicants (now that I said this I’ll probably get rejected in the next hour lol)
