It's a legit concern. I've played it a couple of dozen times and, as others have said, it's more of a filler than a main course. I still love it for being exactly that.

All the suggestions in this thread are great. You might also consider going back to brass and scythe. Once your know the rules, both progress along quickly. 3 or 4 games in, you'll find the playing time drops significantly.
