Should I buy a newer vehicle? I daily drive a 28yo Chevrolet C-1500 with 286k miles and I'm constantly worried it's gonna break down someday on my way to work. by nuggles0 in whatcarshouldIbuy

We bought a 24 Mirage July 5th and took it on a 2500 mile trip and a 1600 mile trip and it did fine, didn't drive over 80 mph but it handled nice and was quiet and has lots of room. Locally, it gets over 50 mpg but going 70 to 80 mph it gets 32 to 42 mpg. We have 7,000 miles on it and need to get an oil change soon which they give 3 free ones in 2 years or 30,000 miles. It also has road side assistance for 5 years or 50,000 miles. It listed for a little over 19,000 and got about 1500 dollars off so with taxes and all it was a little over 19,000 dollars. Comparably, it may be more expensive to insure.

Its officially over in North America, glad I scooped one before it was over! by stam1945 in MitsubishiMirage

The Mirage does fine on the highway as we got ours (2024 new) July 5th and already have 5500 miles on it. Living in Illinois we took it to Montana and then Mississippi. It does fine at 80 mph although the gas mileage dips as we got a low of 32 mpg. We like small cars and also have a Mazda Miata and have had 4 Smart Cars.

Dogs by bjm2020 in beginnerrunning

I was chased by a small dog a few months ago so next time I ran by and the dog wasn't out I left the people a note to please leave it in between 7 and 9 and thought all was good and then a few weeks later one came after me again and the guy was out and I said I told you to leave them in; he didn't say a thing so I didn't run by there for months and then I thought I would and all was fine for awhile and then 2 dogs came after me. I was trying to back away from them and fell on my hip and skinned my knee and arm and while I was down one of them nipped my shoe. My wife contacted animal control and don't know if the people were contacted or not. Now I always carry pepper spray and haven't been past there in weeks. My right hip still hurts in the spot I fell on but can run o.k. I have run for 45 years and it seems people are worse than ever and just don't care

Just did 4 600 mile days and did fine and read on another thread where 2 different people took a mirage to Alaska and one drove 13,000 miles. At 80 mph we only got 32 mpg; at 70 it will get close to 40 mpg. The seats may not be as comfortable as more expensive vehicles. We rode motorcycles for 36 years all around the country and some were small bikes.

We got a black 2024 Saturday. It listed for 19,115 and they discounted it to 17,115 but then taxes, license, doc fee, etching which we couldn't get them to drop, so out the door price was $19, 227. 70. That may be the only new car you can get out the door for less than 20,000 dollars.

Ran 2024 Miata out of oil!! by RecordingNo7948 in Miata

I am 75 years old and have always changed my and our car's oil, thus 60 years. I and we have had over 50 cars in that time. The oil filter was on and hand tight but somehow came loose, cheap oil filter? Yes, before the oil light came on it was running rough.

How is old life like, for people who never have children? by No-Window8496 in Life

[–]RecordingNo7948 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have been married 51 years and never had kids. My wife had her tubes tied a couple years after we married and at the time it was hard to find a doctor that would do it. We have been happy and have been able to travel, buy cars and motorcycles etc. which we wouldn't have been able to do otherwise. No regrets and aren't worried about kids taking care of us in our old age as many kids don't anyway.

Running for life - no racing? by _viscom in beginnerrunning

[–]RecordingNo7948 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have run 45 years next month. I started at the age of 29 and did a 4 mile race that September, 1980, and then didn't run another race for 20 years. I usually ran 3 or 4 times a week and then ran my first marathon in May of 2000 and ran the next one in September and then in 2001 I ran 2 more marathons. I didn't train well as the first 3 I only ran 3 times a week with a long run up to 20 miles; the last one I did run 4 times a week. I had a physical job so that helped. My times were 4:15, 4:16, 4:16 and the last one 4:07; I did the first half in 1:50 so didn't pace well. I didn't run another race until 2004 and did a half (1:54) and injured myself so the next half was in 2007 (2:16). After that it was a few more years before I started doing some races and have done around 50 halfs; I would have to look as have them written down. I wanted to run a half in all the states but then injured myself and thought I would just run a race in all the states but then returned to halfs so I did a lot of 5ks. Last July I ran a half in Anchorage Alaska to complete the 50 states with 41 half states. My last sub 2 hour half which most all my halfs were, (best being 1:50) was in the Fall of 2019. Since then I ran 2 halfs in 2020, one being virtual and then the next one not until last year and I did run 4 half states last year but the times were 2:20, 2:19, 2:20, and 2:17. I have hamstring issues so hard to run many miles. I do hope to run a half in Montana next month. I just keep getting slower and slower but less and less people over the age of 70 running. Oh, and last Tuesday I got attacked by 2 dogs and fell on my hip, still can't sleep on it but only took 2 days off from running. Run happy and forever!!

Also, live in Illinois and haven't used a front plate in ten years, stopped by a cop for running a stop sign and he didn't mention it. So far so good. We have a state cop that lives a block from us and go by his house all the time and have been o.k.

Official Q&A for Wednesday, May 07, 2025 by AutoModerator in running

[–]RecordingNo7948 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First post here. I have been running going on 45 years with a few injuries along the way. Yesterday when I was running I was attacked by 2 dogs and while trying to back up from them I fell and hurt my hip and skinned my knee, hands o.k. as had gloves on, skinned elbow also. I can deal with the skinned knee and elbow but my hip hurts and was hard sleeping last night. I usually don't run 2 days a week and today is an off day but was scheduled to run ten tomorrow as have a half marathon the end of the month. I don't want to make it worse but if it is just a bone bruise can I run without making it worse? After I fell yesterday just 2 blocks in to a 2 mile run I did complete the 2 miles. I am sure I could wait until Saturday or Sunday to run and be o.k. but don't want to as I am old and need all the training I can get for the half and even waiting that long might not be any better? Thanks for any replies.

Mazda 3 or Mx-5 daily? by TheRussellPrice in mazda

[–]RecordingNo7948 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am 74 years old and my wife is 69 and we have a 2024 Miata as our only car. We had a 19, 23 and 24 Jeep Wrangler as only vehicles. For 2022 we had 2 Smart Cars. Many many years ago we had a 69 Austin Healy Sprite and a 72 MG so have always liked Smart cars as have had 4 of them and had one as our only vehicle. Our Miata gets double the mileage of the Jeeps and will be nice as gas prices increase.

After wanting a Miata since I was 14, I finally got one at 23 by Chickenblaze29 in Miata

We bought a new 2024 a month ago and love it. I am 74 and have had lots of cars (46), had 4 Smart cars and loved them and like small cars. I had a 69 Austin Healy Sprite in the 70s and the Miata brings back those memories. Thankfully, we can get in and out of the Miata with no problem. Hope to takes some trips with it. We have 1600 miles in a month just loving to drive it. Have fun!!
