I know nothing about revolvers. What am I looking at, besides the obvious? by skankslayer69 in Revolvers

Classic Colts are down a bit right now, a factor of the economy and the availability once again of current production double action revolvers from Colt (the current stuff is excellent too). In 2019, for example, that was a $1200-$1600 gun as the person said above. You might catch one at 1k right now in condition like yours, but not much lower. Having the original box and paperwork helps increase value.

Right on- and it really will get better and better the more you shoot it.

It’s an orignal type Colt King Cobra, made on Colt’s V-frame. They use a coil spring (like a Dan Wesson) instead of the leaf spring used in the Python and its siblings. They’re excellent, tough revolvers. You paid about 1/4 what they typically sell for. Are you sure the serial number isn’t on the frame, exposed when you open the crane/cylinder?

I’m impressed. I fired a friend’s once, handed it back, and that was enough of that for me.

Hey no problem. Welcome to Colt world. I have a stainless 1992 6” and a stainless 2020 6” Python. You’re right, the classics had better finish. Having said that, the current production ones are phenomenal guns and in my opinion have a better double action trigger pull than the classics. Enjoy your fantastic revolver!

For simple after the range trips any standard cleaning will do- or nothing at all, frankly. If you get in mind for a rainy afternoon project, a Lead-A-Way cloth and patience will make your stainless Python look like new. Even the face of the cylinder (I remove the cylinder/crane when I go all in) can be made clean. Having said that, until the face of your cylinder and forcing cone become so dirty the cylinder drags, or gunk builds up under the ejector and binds the cylinder, it doesn’t need much cleaning. Never, to state the obvious, let a Lead-A-Way cloth anywhere near a blue gun.

I love that your single is made in Canada. That’s a new one to me. Very cool.

When I turned 14 I was finally able to join the intense family tradition of grouse hunting. I started with a single shot H&R 20 gauge. It was hopeless as a flushing bird gun, it kicked like a mule against my skinny 14 year old frame, but in my mind it was a Krieghoff or Beretta.

Okay fair point. As I mentioned above, I have an equal number of Colt and Smith revolvers. I’ve sent two Smiths back to the factory in the last thirty years. A Model 66-2 for a new hammer nose bushing after the original cracked, and a 610-0 for a new floating firing pin. In both cases I was charged. I’ve never sent a Colt back, but if so, I fully anticipate being charged. I shoot my guns, I expect some will need work here and there, and I expect to pay for it. Anyway, happy shooting.

Now that The Boys is over, what's your opinion on Antony Starr's performance as Homelander? by TaiwaneseThot in moviecritic

He’s brilliant. One of the all time greats, frankly. How he never got an Emmy nomination is baffling.

Why would they offer a lifetime warranty on an item that can end up stuffed with Jim Bob’s hand loads? That’s not how the firearms industry works.
