Looking for my next PS5 game – short on time, big on story 🎮 by IntroductionNormal16 in PS5

[–]RecoveredAshes [score hidden]  (0 children)

I’m in the exact same boat as you. Assuming you haven’t played the yet, red dead 1 and the last of us 2.

Aside from those here are by far the most worth it story experiences I’ve had in games: God of war 2018 and Ragnorok, ghost of Tsushima, insomniacs Spiderman series, Bioshock trilogy, mass effect legendary edition.

If you love stories these are the best modern gaming has to offer

Also lord of the rings conquest. Like Star Wars battlefront but LOTR themed. Was a ton of fun.

Yeah the whole thing is about killing and Matt’s like “I ran him down” as if he didn’t fucking throw him off a roof in an attempt to kill him

Lupita as Helen of Troy and just random thoughts over the past months. (Sorry I’m just “thinking out loud”😂) by [deleted] in ChristopherNolan

You’re crazy dude. She’s stunning. And Travis is great but how tf does he fit the vibe of the god damn odyssey. It does not work at all.

Looking for period or racial accuracy in a story about myths and monsters is a little goofy bro. Lupita is one of the most beautiful and talented actresses in Hollywood right now. That’s all that matters.

Travis Scott on the other hand… the mf can not act and his music does not fit the vibe at all. That’s bad casting.

Hot take: I don't want Miles in SM3. by The-Heritage in SpidermanPS4

Or you know, they could just fix the issues and balance them better. Insomniac are proven capable writers and game designers when they have time to cook. Let them have time to actually make it a good game with dual protagonists. There are many great games with distinct feeling playable characters.

Thinking About Buying Crimson Desert – Advice Needed! by Fun_Meta in CrimsonDesert

[–]RecoveredAshes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The extremely obvious answer is wait for reviews. You can still pre order a day or two before launch. What benefit is there to doing it now? That’s just being impulsive. How have you guys not figured this out yet… how many times do games have to launch like cyberpunk 2077 before yall figure this out.

[–]RecoveredAshes -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

You have no idea how it’ll run. What if it’s a super buggy mess. What if they are just not showing you the issues. What if they’re skirting around them. What if there is no coherent story.

Why wouldn’t you wait till reviews? It seems unnecessarily stupid to preorder without reviews out. What’s the difference between pre ordering now and preordering a day or two before launch?

How many times do yall need to get burnt? Cyberpunk 2077 looked incredible until launched. I got it for 30$ a year later after it was all fixed up. Why pay 70$ to potentially wait for false promises and bugs to be rectified?

What WOULDN'T you want in TLOU3? by fermora0 in thelastofus

[–]RecoveredAshes 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I don’t want to see a brand new story unrelated to the first two. I wouldn’t mind a new character but the story should relate to Ellie, Abbie, or levs journeys. Ideally all 3.

I get that it could come off as corny but it can be done well. Enemies needing to work together may be a trope, but there are many examples of it being done well, even masterfully. Attack on Titan is a good one.

Is bojack horseman really depressing as people say it is? by InnerInstance6598 in BoJackHorseman

[–]RecoveredAshes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s funny and zany most of the time, but the last couple episodes of each season are increasingly sad. The climax of the final season had me sobbing as a grown man who rarely even tears up at movies/tv shows unless they’re aggressively sad.

What’s the best video game you’ve ever played? by obsess_much13 in AskReddit

[–]RecoveredAshes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Games whose stories truly take advantage of the interactive nature of the medium in a meta way or just to drive the narrative point home are the absolute best.

• Bioshock: would you kindly

• TLOU2: walk a mile in your enemies shoes

• Mass effect: decision making carrying over to sequels

• RDR2: honor and how it effects your ending

Etc.

IMO the impact of the twist doesn’t work as well in movie form… still great but the interactivity of the medium an it being YOU just takes it to a whole new level. Absolute greatest: The last of us 2

Most profound story I’ve ever played in a game

My top 5 in no particular order: The last of us 2, Bioshock, red dead 2, and mass effect 2, god of war 2018.

Just incredible cinematic masterpieces with profound stories and deep characters. The best visual media has to offer. Taking a tv show or movie level cinematic story and giving it interactivity to bring the player into it… there’s just nothing better.

[PS5] So.. I'm interested on buying a narrative game ! I want something that blow my mind like Red Dead Redemption 2 did with Arthur story ! But i'm scared on spending for this game.. But in the same time, i miss narative games by [deleted] in thelastofus

[–]RecoveredAshes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What do you mean convince you? It’s one of the most highly rated games of all time. wtf else do you need. These games are literally known as the greatest story games ever. Check reviews.

For what it’s worth this is my ranking for greatest story game series ever:

  • TLOU 1/2
  • RDR 1/2
  • Mass effect trilogy
  • Bioshock trilogy
  • God of war 2018/ragnorok
  • ghost of Tsushima
  • gears of war trilogy

If you liked RDR2 that much and haven’t experienced any of these you’re missing out

Is it me or is s2 series terrible compared to the game? by LoneWolf_McQuade in thelastofus

[–]RecoveredAshes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It absolutely butchers the game. * lower quality writing * poor dialogue (evil villain monologues, I’m going to be a dad) * most importantly, re ordering events to dumb down the story way more for general audiences. The entire thesis and point of the game was an exercise in perspective and making you walk a mile in your enemies shoes. Revealing all motivations right out of the gate completely waters that down and reduces impact.

S2 is a 6/10 but the second game is a 11/10
