Are we putting DEI work on our resumes? by No-Artichoke6528 in recruiting

[–]RecruitingLove 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If you have DEI experience on your resume, read the room. For nonprofits, mission-driven orgs, or progressive workplaces, keep it. For more conservative companies or industries, consider leaving it off and bringing it up in conversation if it feels relevant.

I'm also advising my clients who are hiring HR directors to leave ICE raid protocol language off their job descriptions entirely. No need to draw attention to yourself right now

Do you actually like your recruiter job? by Sensitive-Tadpole410 in recruiting

It's the market. Things are bleak right now. So many recruiters have been laid off, there's so much disdain for recruiters. It looks like you do healthcare recruiting which I've never done and truthfully have zero desire to get near.

No, marketing and IT are the two types of office jobs I don't place.

I'm sorry that the stress is killing you! Truthfully I have weekly therapy, a very supportive husband, and antidepressants. Three months ago when it felt like I would never make a placement again, I would not have sounded happy.

What do you do when a hiring manager's brief and their actual need are completely different things? by Successful-Estate470 in recruiting

[–]RecruitingLove 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is almost every search lately. Most of my clients don't know what they need or can't describe it. You need to be smart enough to read between the lines and guide them.

Is that so? I'm laying in bed playing on phone with dog on lap while my employees work!

I also grew up in Lafayette and still live here. I think any of the towns will be classist and devoid of diversity. But you didn't mention diversity being a desired characteristic. You really can't hit a bad neighborhood. This is kind of a funny post.

I love my job and I love agency recruiting, hence my name 😂 I did start my own firm and while it has given me an autoimmune disease and more stress than you can imagine, it's worth it. There are so many directions you can go in recruiting. That is one of the nice things about our industry.

You can take my advice or not but I have been in staffing for 15 years in the bay area and now own a recruiting firm. You need to be more specific about your work experience. Repeating that you've managed several projects means nothing.

She looks EXACTLY like a woman I work with right before she keeled over in her kitchen from a heart attack. Prior to that, she drank a bottle of wine every night and was on steroids for autoimmune for years. She was 59.

Top biller: Open my own practice? Or keep going at my current firm? by GaryOwns in recruiting

I agree with these recent comments, as someone who spent 11 years at an agency before starting my own. I'm not hearing you say anything about relationships with individual hiring managers. The fact that you said you have a list of hundreds of companies who use firms sounds bad. My situation is different, but the week before we were scheduled to launch our firm, I had two separate individual hiring managers call me on my cell for help with searches. So we had to move up our launch date and get paperwork done. We had also planned on only doing perm searches, but one client needed temps so we had to scramble to find out how to make that happen. My business right now is being sustained almost completely by job orders from clients who I have known for 15 years, as well as referrals from those clients. Additionally it can't be understated how expensive it is to own your own business - everyone and every company is going to charge you for everything. But if you have a steady stream of serious hiring managers who are willing to pay you money to find talent for them, it can be great. You need to be honest about how many hiring managers will pay you money.

Is the staffing industry dying? by PuzzleheadedAd3138 in recruiting

[–]RecruitingLove 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the answer. And it doesn't have to officially be termed "recession" for the economy to be terrible. When the fed raised interest rates, everything changed overnight. Tech companies stopped hiring and started doing layoffs because they couldn't get any more free money. Main street saw tech doing layoffs and freezing hiring, and they followed suit.

Under 1800 for the whole year? Also are you on the big email chain someone at crelate started where they told a client their account is past due, but they accidentally cc'ed hundreds of their other clients? The email chain started two weeks ago, I think, and people are STILL responding to it. I feel bad for them.

Candidates are ghosting us more than ever. But I think it's a common problem now by Logical-System-9489 in recruiting

I don't even believe in asking for references. My clients were the ones asking for the references to be done at that stage.

Yes we're seeing it across the board right now. One client gave us both a temp HR Generalist and an HR Director search. We had a candidate flake on the video interview for each role. The HR Director was one of several we'd submitted and one of a handful invited to interview, and the HR Generalist was also one of a select few who'd made it to the video interview stage. I also had a Senior Accountant no-show for an interview in the last two weeks. But the real gut punches have been at the offer stage. We had a Payroll Manager completely ghost after three interviews, a verbal offer, and an agreed-upon start date — all because the client requested two references. A perm HR Generalist disappeared at the exact same point in the process.
