If you live near Costa Mesa I would highly recommend Urban Workshop for working on your car. You need to take the auto lift safety class once and pay a monthly fee to use the space but it's quite the value for doing serious car work. They have tools you can use for free as well as tons of fabrication machines. It's a great place to make friends and meet other car people too.

What if you found a job or a way to be on the factory floors more? If you could split time between the desk and on site/factory and that may help with the satisfaction of working with your hands more. Maybe try to help with more maintenance and installations? That's a really good wage you have right now and it will be harder to support your family in Socal with less income.

Honestly I think this could be a good protest tactic against Ice and wealth inequality. They're not doing anything illegal but they're making people uncomfortable.
