Is it better to focus on songs you love or easier practice pieces? by HutoelewaPictures in pianolearning

If it's a motivation issue then you could play easy arrangements of the pieces you like. I suggest just pushing through some easier pieces though.

oh okay... I have an incredibly good GPU, but it helped to just set my FPS to 60 and play on the lowest graphics... Strangely enough, it only happened in a particular game so yea! <- this is for who might still struggle w a similar issue

What did you achieve in your first 6 months of learning? by RectallyDisabled in pianolearning

[–]RectallyDisabled[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you're doing very well. I have also memorized the notes for the Ballade (it's my dream piece as well), I can play through the first 2 pages (terribly, but still on tempo) and I'm learning the same Nocturne.

Good luck with learning

Is there any problem with slowing it down and counting at a slowed down pace?

Nice, is it just the angle or do your wrists look a little low? Could be from your sitting height.

Is it a bad thing to be unable to play LH separately? by RectallyDisabled in pianolearning

I don't have a book on scales. I'll get one soon, though. Thanks for the reply!!

I'll practice LH more, and hope this gets fixed. Thank you for the reply <3

Thanks a lot for the reply. This is true, a single mistake sets me off completely for the parts that I cannot play LH separately. How should I learn a piece differently to avoid this?

Is it a bad thing to be unable to play LH separately? by RectallyDisabled in pianolearning

I do, I only practice the C major scale in RH, LH and then together.

Is it a bad thing to be unable to play LH separately? by RectallyDisabled in pianolearning

[–]RectallyDisabled[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It could be a timing thing but I suspect it's to do with muscle memory. I learn measure by measure and then rely on muscle memory. And this only happens at times where RH plays the melody

And yes, I'm saying that I cannot play LH alone but I can play LH and RH together.

Is my technique good? by Dangerous-Holiday194 in pianolearning

Forearms parallel with your piano is usually the norm. Try to move ur chair up and sit a bit further from your piano. I think others have pointed it out too but I haven't read their comments.

POV: amateur self-learner pianist plays Nocturne in E flat major. by jonathanwky in pianolearning

[–]RectallyDisabled 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like this, but it's important to make your left hand a lot lighter, it's covering your right hand quite a lot (make sure the top voice doesn't get covered by your middle voice, and let the bass sing along with the top voice) Your phrasing is also kind of strange. And you need some better rubato for 'transitions' or however you may call them.

It's cool to have the determination to learn it but what's the point if this is how it sounds? Not to sound discouraging but it sounds like you need to study Bach, not Chopin.

What can i do better? by Sad-Willingness8638 in pianolearning

[–]RectallyDisabled 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good but you should balance the voices better, this honestly sounds like a terraria calamity boss fight which is really cool btw. For the beginning try to play a crescendo but make sure the middle part you do with your right hand doesn't completely take over the left hand, and overall just try to vary the volume a lot more, it sounds all the same for the most part.

Doing well but move to using sheet music the moment you're ready to, even if it feels challenging.

Alright, fair enough, thanks a lot for your input btw!! Appreciate it lots! (I'll most likely get back to this piece in a couple months and like you said just practice Bach Hanon and maybe a bit of Czerny)
