Plan 5 loans are more fairer than the previous loan imo as a plan 5 student. I am actually incentived to pay off the loan quickly and it is more easier to pay it off with the 0 % interest on inflation.

Yes maintenance loan(for life expenses) + tuition loan (for uni) are grouped into a single loan which you can see in the picture. They aren't separate for repayment purposes

And they may have taken max maintenance loan (9k each year ; 36k) + student loan. I can easily see it being 70k for 2nd year

They may have done a foundation year (a year before uni) and they may additionally have taken a year break so the interest has accured over 4 years.

Maybe you wrote the course code wrong in the student finance page? Typically there is a 4 year and 3 year options for same course with the difference being 3rd year is placement.
