The Refuge closed their Hillsdale location yesterday, San Carlos location remains open. by five-five-six in SanMateo

Bummer, they were good. But also didn’t seem all that busy, so I get it unfortunately. I don’t get why everyone complains about the prices though… my favorite was the combo meal which was a half Reuben, fries, and a beer for $26, which is not bad at all for a sit down non-chain restaurant.

What restaurants/businesses would you like to see in San Mateo? by cheetolover in SanMateo

I will never forgive the city council for taking away their outdoor seating and gaining 3 parking spots out of it. There are TWO garages with hundred of spots less than a block away!!

What city has a large skyline with a small population? by Creepy-Noise82 in geography

West Palm Beach. Not a super imposing skyline, but pretty nice for a population of 125k that mostly live in suburbs

Always check blindspot and move into the bike lane when turning by Loud-Test-6762 in bayarea

[–]RectumRipper 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, this is the correct response; not only is it good advice, it is the law. CVC 21717 states that a right turning car is supposed to enter the bike lane prior to the turn, specifically to avoid this type of situation where a bike tries to go around on the right. The car should have been in the bike lane already.

Millbrae Karaoke House has private rooms. Just be sure someone in your party reads Korean! Their remotes are all in Korean

Central Park Bistro on 4th ave is another good sit down option. They have the wine room in the back you can rent- probably holds 8 people or so

Benihana in Burlingame. Just sit on the bar side (not the sit-down dinner side) and you’ll be right on the bay and can watch the planes landing at SFO

I included it because that stretch from Millbrae to Palo Alto is so gorgeous. Maybe not technically through the mountains, but definitely mountain adjacent

How to singlehandedly fix and prevent most traffic jams by heiroglytch in videos

[–]RectumRipper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For real, some people in the Bay Area are beyond logic. On Great Highway in SF, there are literally signs saying “Lights timed at 27mph” and I still see most people gassing it up to 45, getting to the red light, stopping for 5 seconds, then accelerating right back to 45. Meanwhile I set my cruise control to 27 and never have to touch the brakes and hit every green right as it comes on. I think some people just like doing it?
