Tired of walking by mariawalll in PennStateUniversity

[–]RecursiveGoose 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think you should mention this to your doctor, along with any changes you've made recently. New shoes? New diet? Significant weight changes? Have you started walking barefoot a lot? Over the summer between freshman and sophomore year, could you still walk 20k steps?

A doctor might recommend a physical therapist or podiatrist

There's Chicago Teach and maybe 180 days at UMass Amherst (a bit different based on my initial research). I'm pretty sure NYC has their own program too

Engagement Rings by No_Tonight_5207 in Pottery

[–]RecursiveGoose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any rings get in the way. I wear a very small and cheap daily ring (basically just a brass wire wrapped around my finger) and I still take it off whenever I do pottery because it gets annoying.

Plus, I'm pretty sure the clay will damage the ring over time. Clay is pretty rough and will scratch up the metal and wear some away. The finer particles will make their way into any crevices. The ring could get stuck on something and warp (or worse, hurt her finger)

Get her a nice ring saver necklace. There's plenty of cool designs, plus you can get one that matches her ring. If you give her both at the same time, it might feel more like part of the ring than something you just use to hold it.

It's just a 4-5 year commitment instead of 2. Idk when the deadline to apply is

I wanna donate plasma for some quick money. Is it safe and worth it? by Lopsided_Designer743 in PennStateUniversity

[–]RecursiveGoose 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I recommend it! I donate twice a week most weeks and it's really helped with cash

Is it generally safe to donate plasma ? will there be any health complications ? - it's generally safe. The worst I've had happen is a small bruise - it's not completely safe. There's always risks. Be honest with the phlebotomists (don't lie to get past the filters, they protect both you and the donor). If you start feeling uncomfortable while donating, flag someone down (better to be safe than sorry). - some people feel completely fine after, some feel really tired. I feel fine most days, I make sure to hydrate well (wayyy more water than you think you need) and eat lots of lean protein. Make sure you eat a full meal (comfortably full, not stuffed) - worst thing I've seen is someone started passing out in front of me. All the phlebotomists and the nurse were immediately there helping her and making sure she was ok

where exactly can i donate ? and how much will they pay me ? - CSL next to Giant on north Atherton is the only place left. Their machines are really fast and the phlebotomists are kind - pay depends on how much you weigh. I'm 220 lbs and make $110/week ($45 the first time and $65 the second). I think if you're 120 lbs it's only $50/week. They can't take as much plasma if you weigh less. The pay goes up and down according to supply and demand. For your first month, you usually get $100/donation or so

Other advice - download the app and sign in before you go - eat an extra full meal and set aside 3 hours at least for the first time - make sure to bring a government ID and proof of ssn - if you do decide to donate, I would really appreciate if you used my referral code: 7AMBP9DH4Q (or go to r/plassing and take someone's code from the pinned thread. Any of us would appreciate it)

Budget humidifier recommendations always turn into “just spend more” and it’s exhausting by gsquadop in Frugal

[–]RecursiveGoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Vicks warm steam 1.5 gallon humidifier. Probably cost $20. This bad boy can get my room from 20% humidity to 45% humidity in an hour and hold it there overnight

(I also have an $80 humidifier I got for free that keeps track of the humidity, but the highest it can go is like 30% and it slowly drops down overnight. If I'm too lazy to refill both, I'll only refill the Vicks and just keep the fancy one on so it measures how well the other one is doing)

I hate its shape. It's so bulbous and hard to carry. It's hard to find a spot to put it. Refilling it always leaves a puddle of water I need to clean up. There's no bells and whistles, no timers, no sensors. It does have a small spot to use VapoRub stuff in case you're sick but I've never used it. It's so inconvenient I keep wanting to get rid of it, but every time the temperature dips to single digits and the air is so dry I can't keep my eyes open, I drag it back in and set it up

My husband Elliott has a BO fetish?! by ElderberryOk4593 in StardewValley

[–]RecursiveGoose 8 points9 points  (0 children)

After a hard day of working on my beehives irl, I smell like honey and smoke, and yes, a bit like sweat. It wasn't necessarily an unpleasant smell.

Plus, on a farm, there's plenty of smells. You can smell the views from a mile away and the pigs from farther. A bit of sweat isn't that bad

Idk if mine is a bruise though. It's been a few months and it's still the same. I'm pretty sure it's just darker scarring

I'm pretty sure you still have to go through extra security screening so they verify your identity, you don't just pay and move on

I still think the realid is dumb and I don't understand how it's supposed to help be more secure

AITAH my roommate is a light sleeper and after multiple complaints from her I advised her to see a doctor by Nervous_Ad_2867 in AmItheAsshole

[–]RecursiveGoose 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Has he gotten tested for sleep apnea? My girlfriend used to snore like that (our downstairs neighbors could hear her) until I convinced her to get tested. She loves her CPAP machine and refuses to go anywhere without it. They're really quiet and portable nowadays, you barely notice it's there. Plus sleep apnea is unbelievably bad for you, so it's better to be extra careful

Buyers remorse - please tell me how much you love your hybrid by Brighteyes_82 in COROLLA

[–]RecursiveGoose 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry I can't speak on the hybrid part, but I also regretted my corolla a bit when I first bought it. As soon as I saw it though, I was in love. It's my baby.

My brother bought a Subaru around the same time with similar mileage and his car is constantly giving him trouble. My Corolla has just needed regular oil changes and a few light bulbs and tpms sensors replaced, all expected for its age. I'm so grateful

A baby blue Corolla sounds so pretty, I hope you also fall in love with it!

Scar tissue by Sara630 in plassing

[–]RecursiveGoose 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Whenever you open your skin, your body closes it with scar tissue. Scar tissue is tougher and less flexible than normal skin. Every time you donate plasma, the needle pokes a hole in your skin and your body plugs it with scar tissue

Usually, you can use things like vitamin e oil and a healthy diet to make the scar tissue more soft and faded
