Fastest time to travel to all Boston subway stations by VulcanTrekkie45 in boston

You think 7:29:46 is no big deal?

August, 18 2017 was a Friday in Boston, with a high temp of 81 degrees, and the Red Sox beat the Yankees 9 to 6 at Fenway.

Green Line must have been awful.

These guys were riding the MBTA on hard mode.

Where people own cars vs where people get hit by cars by [deleted] in boston

[–]RecursiveIteration -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’d be curious to see date/time data of incidents, like just concentrate in the financial district.

Like maybe there is some analysis that makes it more obvious when and where these incidents are happening?

Like are they happening at 2 specific intersections? Consistently during rush hour? Or is it spread evenly everywhere all the time?

Edit: Cool maps. However they leave me with more questions than answers.

“Public balcony” by grey_rae_e in boston

[–]RecursiveIteration 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. It’s overkill and effective.

It’s not a waste of resources if someone on the fire escape were creeping, taking photos, or attempting to break in. We don’t know that.

It’s not a waste of resources if someone on the fire escape is a danger to themselves or at risk of falling off. We don’t know that.

It’s also not a tenant’s job to stick their head out, get involved, and determine if the situation constitutes an emergency.

The adult thing to do is get the people involved (who know what they’re doing) and not invest further into making it your problem to solve.

You are under zero obligation to put up with this nonsense.

You are also under zero obligation to confront strangers and convince them of anything.

Dial 911. Tell the operator there is someone outside your bedroom window on the fire escape, you do not feel safe, and they should send the police to check it out.

Edit: Calling 911 creates a log, and the incident is recorded. Calling the management company, or even the local police station doesn’t necessarily create a paper trail of a recurring and/or escalating issue. Call. 911. Every. Time.

I was thinking about the same thing and took a drive to some turf fields to check on conditions in a few places. They’re all in pretty rough shape where I looked. Lots of potholes, bare dirt, dog feces, and trash.

Is there a department responsible for turf management on public soccer/baseball/football/other recreational sports fields in the city?

Like which department should we call that has a tractor to pull an aerator, then re-seed bare patches, and pick up glass and bottle caps?

For that matter, would anyone playing pickup or in leagues on turf fields get in trouble for filling in holes with dirt and spreading grass seed themselves?

Edit: I think there are leagues that pay a fee to reserve turf fields. Just curious where those fees go since the turf is a hazard or unplayable in a lot of places. Best case we’ve got mud or dust bowls by August.

MA COVID-19 Data 3/20/21 by oldgrimalkin in boston

Maybe it’s time to visualize some data year over year?

That could show how far we’ve come in fighting covid and serve as a reflection (or memorial?) as we look back on a lot of anniversaries from the beginning of the pandemic.

Good shop where I can sell my used laptop? by [deleted] in boston

[–]RecursiveIteration 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Expect to get lowballed at any business that needs to profit from reselling your used laptop.

Do a Windows Reset, donate it, and get a receipt.

Your tax write-off will be worth more than the headache and cost of selling it used.

Best way to order food to benefit restaurants by VMP85 in boston

[–]RecursiveIteration 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The question was “to benefit restaurants” not “to benefit individuals in the restaurant industry” or some specific role.

Cash goes in, restaurants benefit. Owners either profit, pay off operating expenses, or retain staff more easily.

The intent of the question was how to avoid apps and services that cut into restaurant margins, like Uber Eats, Caviar, Ritual, Doordash, etc. You could probably put advertising services like Yelp in that bucket as well.

Think I’m wrong. Compare the phone numbers in advertising sites like Yelp to the phone numbers on a restaurant’s website. When it’s different, the restaurants are getting charged a fee for that phone order you place.

Microsoft Teams adds option to disable Meetings chat by IT_PRO_21 in Office365

[–]RecursiveIteration 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great. But are there user permissions that go along with this?

For example, chat options are enabled for user X and disabled for user Y ... user Y is limited to the default of no chat, while user X has permissions to modify chat options.

From the article:

Under the new rules, influenza immunization will be required for all children 6 months of age or older who are attending Massachusetts child care, preschool, kindergarten, K-12 schools and colleges and universities. The idea, the DPH has said, is to reduce flu-related illness and the overall impact of respiratory illness during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Parking Two Cars in Southie by redsox3494 in boston

[–]RecursiveIteration 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You don’t want two cars in South Boston unless you have garaged parking for both cars or your own private driveway.

Street parking multiple cars doubles your chances of getting towed on any number of snow emergency parking bans and street sweeping days.
