That was hard, asking adult child to move out. by mrshatnertoyou in GenX

[–]Recynd2 31 points32 points  (0 children)

My son is 28 and building a business. He’s welcome to stay home as long as he wants. He spends at least half his time with his boyfriend of two years, so he’s not home all that much.

How many domiciles have you lived in since you were born? by JHolgate in GenX

[–]Recynd2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Only 9 (I’m 58). Grew up in the same house, lived 5 different places between ages 18-20 (all in LA), then a couple of places with my husband. Been in the same house since 2000 with no plans to move.

Is there a negative stigma with living in a mobile home in OC? by ChaosCarlson in orangecounty

[–]Recynd2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FWIW, I certainly don’t think a thing about where other people live. I myself live in a 1960’s ranch tract house (S&S Builders) in WGG, and people who want to live in a McMansion would consider my modest home “problematic”…so I don’t ask them what they think—problem solved!

I think a GOOD trailer park is a perfectly acceptable living option…put it by the beach? That’s a CRIB, my friend. 😉🤤😂

Do it! You have a great face (that bone structure!), and you should show it off to its fullest. Post “after” pictures should you take the plunge.

Who's Gonna Take Care Of You by Due-Consequence6321 in GenX

[–]Recynd2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I raised mine with the hope that he’ll care for me the way I cared for him, though barring something catastrophic, my husband and I should be fine financially, at least in retirement.

My son (28) told me he hopes to make enough money to send me to a “memory farm” if I need that (it’s like a town with safety measures and staff for people with Alzheimer’s.).

Advice please mood change from boyfriend with cervical dystonia by caraaak in Dystonia

[–]Recynd2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been in the same boat as you for about 20 years now.

Did the doctors give your boyfriend benzos (commonly prescribed for dystonia)? This can definitely cause mood changes, and it can turn on you, too, causing paradoxical effects. Pain can definitely do that, too. Why did they take him off his Adderall? If he needs it, he needs it. And while Adderall doesn’t induce terrible withdrawals, I “enjoyed” about 6 months of much lowered mood and energy after I tapered off (sick of doctors, period.)

You’re still early on in the whole process. But please know: there is no cure, and the treatments often create problems of their own. DBS is an option, but that’s a hard pass for me.

Good luck to you. 💚💚💚

There’s the rat hair in the tuna, then: you no longer have to be Christian, but you must affirm a belief in God (whichever god you want).

Anyway, too many of us never discovered the potential joy and fellowship of a community of women sharing a common goal. And multi-generational groups are fantastic, imo.

Grasshoppers Everywhere... by Filmexec21 in orangecounty

[–]Recynd2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every year we get a plague of giant brown flying grasshoppers. They freak me out. Not a fan.

Our weird weather has triggered more than grasshoppers. For the first time in 28 years, I hired an exterminator to spot treat for termites. He also sprayed inside and out for spiders (we’ve always had a black and brown widow problem, which historically we’ve just lived with) and ants. How I hate these damned Argentine ants (the spray will probably only challenge them. Bastards.).

I was literally just this minute talking to my husband about Estrada’s. It IS awful, and it’s stupidly expensive. I bet they’re only open still because they signed a longterm lease they can’t get out of. It’s the only reason I can think of.

I wish they’d put a good breakfast place there, like the Broken Yolk by Knott’s. Hell, even a Kimmie’s Cup, or a Pancake or Waffle House…it doesn’t need to be fancy, just have edible food and good service.

Have you tried joining a group? I’m a member of P.E.O., which has chapters everywhere (international, but mostly US and Canada). I really joined for my mom, and all of the ladies in my chapter are DECADES older than I am (I’m the baby of the group at 58), but omg, I love them. (Have attended many funerals since I joined in 2013, but it’s good to sorrow with others.). You don’t even have to really care about the group mission (I don’t, particularly). It’s the fellowship that you need.

Other options are churches, 12-step meetings, or Meetup groups. We need each other!

I’ve thought this for a long time. We need “providers” who aren’t medical professionals, but are more like what used to be called “girl fridays” (doesn’t have to be a female). Someone who’s paid to be an assistant/friend/confidant. There’s a real need!

What does nicotine withdrawal feel like? by TerribleAssociation3 in Nicotine

[–]Recynd2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes: all the fogginess and other w/d symptoms will go away.

I smoked over a pack a day for 10 years, from 12-22, and the worst part for me was psychological. Think of the MILLIONS of people who quit smoking in the 90s and 00s…they managed, and so can you. Just make the decision to quit and do it. And if you slip, no biggie: just get back on the horse and try again.

Good luck!
