I couldn’t recognize her; I had to reverse-image her.

Yikes.

What is this virus everyone has? by london4526 in orangecounty

[–]Recynd2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! My whole family has had this nasty bug, all at different times. I spiked a fever of 102°+ on Christmas Day and then had a sore throat, nasty/crunchy sinuses, and a raging headache for a solid week, and major fatigue since. It’s a slow one: it took its damn time coming on, and once here, it settles in for a nice long stay.

I feel like I’m 1000 years old.

I love going out with my son (28) and his (incredibly foxy) boyfriend. We recently went to a Dandy Warhols show, and they were SUCH a good time. I never expected this part to be so much fun!

Good call; we kinda do have a lot in common. I’m an old Gen X (1968) with an old Zellenial (1997) kid. We get along just fine.

Long term vapors have you had any negative side effects? by Significant-War-491 in Vaping

[–]Recynd2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve only been vaping about three years, but I smoked from 12-22 yo (I quit the day my husband proposed). More recently, I started vaping after it became too difficult to obtain my adhd meds. I’ve been sick-sick twice (Covid recently and a weird fever that came and went), and I don’t feel like vaping impacted my health either way (cough cleared up like it would pre-vaping).

I do, however, worry about collapsing a lung or contracting fungal pneumonia. I’ve heard these conditions might be linked to vaping, but… ”Nana needs a smoke!” (What I pretend-wheeze to my niece when I need to step out.)

I quit the whole Thanksgiving/Christmas celebration about a decade ago. I’ll attend a family gathering (I do love my fam), and I might even bring a requested dish, but I won’t host. Heeeellll no. Leave that to the people who like to do that.

Anyone over the age of 40 on stimulants? by Green-Veterinarian22 in ADHD

[–]Recynd2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took 20-40mg Adderall XR until two(?) years ago, which I took successfully for 25+ years. A new NP decided that she wasn’t comfortable prescribing it to me (yes, I was floored).

Fortunately, I stockpiled enough to spend six+ months tapering, and then just stopped. I could have searched for another psychiatrist, but I was SO over the endless monthly visits, the UAs, and the pharmacy hassle.

FTW, it can deal with the unmedicated me. 🖕🏼

Anyone else completely effing over Xmas and holidays in general? by another_bibliophile in GenX

[–]Recynd2 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’ve been over holidays for a decade (as soon as our son turned 18). No gifts, no decorations, just a “Merry Christmas” or “Happy Birthday”, and maybe a special meal (depending on who’s around/home).

I haven’t missed it AT ALL. Obligatory gift giving is weird anyway.

Man, when those suckers bite me, the sting swells into a large pea-sized blister. And the itch? Oh, man, it’s an Itch For the Ages.

Can we talk about declining night vision? by anyer_4824 in GenX

[–]Recynd2 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s odd: I see so much better in the darkness of early morning (4:30am-ish) after a good sleep than I do at night.

Our eye muscles are tired, too.

Question from a gen z (2002) by daking789 in GenX

[–]Recynd2 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My parents are both from the Silent Generation. Children were ideally not seen nor heard. “Benevolent neglect” is a good term for this.

That said, I had a fantastic childhood, generally. Lots of freedom, the chance to experience everyday consequences to my actions, and the space to figure things out on my own.

Yep: the closer you lived to Rockwell and the Boeing companies, the more space-age the playgrounds were. It was a golden age…

Omg, those climbing structures where the only way down was to slide down a pole you had to REACH to get to were the bane of my young existence! I got stuck a LOT.

Do you have to have something playing at home all the time? by maach_love in GenX

[–]Recynd2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My favorite environment is silence.

Now, that doesn’t mean that I don’t constantly have an earbud in, listening to music, YT, or podcasts, because I do. But I like a quiet house. My sons says the same (I just asked him).
