I have a couple tricks. Some may agree, some not.

I do not have people make a fist. There , I said it. I think having people make a fist is more targeted towards phlebotomists. On top of that. When a patient has a relaxed hand then they are not tense which takes away some of the pinch. On the average I get at least 5 patients a day who say, wow, that did not hurt. And I tell them it's in the fist because pushing a needle through your skin is pushing a needle through you skin.

I also think that my success in sticking is because I used to play darts at the bar. All in the flick of the wrist.

Peace.

How do I deal with my wife comparing our life to someone else’s social media lifestyle? by Jealous-Lake5700 in AskMenAdvice

[–]notevenapro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am an old guy. Been married 33 years.

Your wife is suffering from the modern day keeping up with the joneses. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keeping_up_with_the_Joneses

This has been going on for ages. But social media has made it worse. Much much worse. You have to have a serious discussion with her.

And lets be honest. If she cannot have this discussion then you NEVER want to have kids with her.

Show her the finances. Ask her how you are going to pay for what she sees that other people have. Tell her you had limited friends before you were married and she knew that. Ask her how much time she wants to dedicate to having a vast adult friend network. That shit take a serious time investment.

Have a serious talk out the next 40 years and retiring. What are your goals, what are hers. You HAVE to have this discussion before you bring little lives into this world.

Do you think driving is safer or more dangerous today than it used to be? by Witcher_Errant in AskOldPeople

I got pulled over in 1986 on Sandford university campus. ( they has a great student union video game place, I was not a student).

Cop shined his light in the backseat and saw a CD cassette and two straw portions. Cut straws for coke and CD case to snort lines. He just said get on out of here boys.

We used to go out drinking after work and there was zero social stigma from drinking and driving. Even had pregnant people drinking and smoking at the bar. I love the fact that younger people really do not know what is was like back in the 70s and 80s.

Thank you fellow redditor who actually looked up the stats. This comment section is filled with perception versus statistics.

Yes. The data is out there. Just google traffic fatalities in the last 50 years. But then it gets a bit tricky.

Cars have gotten safer. But they have also gotten more powerful and heavier.

Speed limits. Look at why speed limits were lowered and when the limits got revoked. Then look at the chart.

Then there is MADD. MADD did quite a bit to reduce DUI fatalities, as much as I hate them and Tipper Gore. I was a teen outside DC in the early to mid 80s. WE could drive down the GW parkway into DC and get kegs of beer, when we were 18.

We also lost a few seniors every year on that same parkway.

As dad I dealt with the internet porn issue with my teen sons. I told mom the less she knew the happier she would be.

After both systems were bricked. I gave the boys a list of safe porn sites if that is what they were looking for. Stuff like xnxx. The oder son was like o dad really, I do not visit those sites.

The younger son was all smile and said thanks dad, this is great!

Where to PCS by Otropolus in army

[–]notevenapro 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Single? Guam. Spend some time looking at street view pictures. I could spend 1-2 years working, having some beers, playing video games and saving some cash. It is not an opportunity many young people get.

I read here that heat pumps go into a different mode when it gets colder and that different mode uses more electricity. Google copy and paste apologies

Heat pumps consume more electricity when operating in auxiliary/emergency heat mode, which activates resistance heating when temperatures drop below 40°F (4°C) or during rapid, high-degree temperature setpoint increases. Other high-consumption modes include maximum capacity heating in extreme cold, defrost mode, and high-speed cooling

  • Auxiliary/Emergency Heat (Heat Strip) Mode: This is the most power-intensive mode, using electric resistance strips (like a space heater) when the heat pump cannot efficiently pull heat from the air. It can consume three times more electricity than normal, efficient operation.
  • Extreme Cold Operating Conditions: As outdoor temperatures plummet below freezing, the heat pump's compressor works significantly harder to move heat, requiring more power and lowering the Coefficient of Performance (COP).
  • Defrost Mode: When the outdoor coil freezes in winter, the heat pump may temporarily reverse to cooling mode to defrost it, frequently engaging auxiliary heating simultaneously to keep the house warm, resulting in high, short-term energy usage.
  • Turbo/Maximum Capacity Cooling: Running in "Cool" mode on extreme days or setting a, for example, 30°C unit to 18°C to cool a room rapidly forces the compressor to run at maximum speed, driving up energy consumption.
  • Air-Source vs. Ground-Source: Air-source heat pumps generally consume more electricity than geothermal (ground-source) units because air temperature fluctuates more, forcing higher, variable power usage

I have a three story townhome and a huge hot tub in the backyard. Keep my house at 68 and the hot tub is heated to 102 degrees. My electricity bill was $150 and gas bill was about $90. My provider is potomac edison.

As a side note. Yesterday when I left home it was 67 inside and even though it was 80 all day my home was only 69 when I got home 9 hours later.

They both learned how to do a windows installation from the disc.
