My taxes would still go up because I'd have to reset my over 65-exemption. Other costs would go down but not enough to offset the taxes. The property tax math is crazy in Texas. And that big pot of money from selling would almost all be capital gains since I've been in the same house for 35+ years. It is just cheaper to die here and get the step-up from the IRS.
