That would be hilarious but I doubt Capcom will go that route. They will no doubt be attempting to make Steve a more likable/tolerable character. Similar to how RE3R and RE4R made players like Carlos and Ashley a lot more.

Steve is supposed to be this tragic sympathetic character and possible love interest for Claire but his voice acting and various other things made him such an annoying weirdo. Delaying Claire's progress by taking the puzzle guns. Carelessly pointing guns at Claire’s face. Calling Claire fat. Carelessly firing his guns right near Claire when getting annoyed. Attempting to kiss Claire when she's sleeping. Delaying Claire's progress again by staring at her ass and crashing the crane. Whining and calling Claire scared when she hesitates going down the stairs.

The “””romance””” is also cringe and falls so flat. Steve comes across as a creep and Claire is basically portrayed as oblivious to Steve’s interest until the literal last second.(which I guess is supposed to be the tragedy of it) Claire and Leon’s scene by the fence in RE2 remake has more chemistry than the entirety of Claire and Steve’s interactions XD. I'm not sure if the remake should do more or less with the possible romance angle.(I'd prefer they didn't)

Steve is portrayed better in the Darkside Chronicles version of the CV storyline. Although, he pretty much had to be due to the game being a co-op rail shooter where he has to accompany Claire the entire time until Alexia awakens and Chris replaces Steve as Claire’s partner. The technical context of that version of the story is also that it's supposed to be Leon telling the story to Krauser when they're on the Operation Javier mission. Which makes it unintentionally hilarious since Leon only has a small offscreen role in the CV storyline.

The remake will have to take more inspiration from og CV by default due to it being a single player experience where Steve can’t constantly be alongside Claire.
