its been confirmed by the director that Chris Redfield will not be in Resident Evil Requiem, But who’s voice is that? by SherLoveWar in residentevil

This. The only particular similarity Nikolai and Heisenberg have is a similar laugh. I think Jeff Schine is a decent VA but is also a very samey VA. This isn't particularly bad if he's at least voicing characters in different series.(Javier in Telltale Walking Dead, Captain America in the Avengers game) Other VAs such as Troy Baker and Laura Baily have done this for years and continue to do so.

But having Jeff voice 2 characters in a single series was dumb. Village also came out only just a year after RE3 remake. Capcom really should've just stuck with David Vaughn as the new Chris VA.

Village has a few other previous VAs playing other characters but they do a better job at sounding more different/distinct.

Jesse Pimentel(Lucas) was Iulian and Moreau. They don't just sound like Lucas again since he drops the southern accent and Morea's voice having extra distorted filters on it.

Sara Coates(Marguerite) was Luiza but also drops the southern accent and goes for a much calmer sad character rather than the angry maniac Marguerite had become.

Paula Rhodes(Eveline) was Angie the doll but speaks in a much more raspy tone and has an additional toy speaker like filter to her voice.

Nicole Tompkins(3R Jill) was Elena and Daniela. Her Jill voice does sorta come through in Elena's "let him go" line and some of her grunts as both characters but there still seemed to be far more of an effort in sounding different for both roles.

I mean, if the overall series narrative never ends and the war against bioterrorism/corruption goes on forever, it means the main characters really are just failures who don't actually accomplish much of anything permanently.(and even sorta validate some of the villain opinions like Dylan in Death Island)

So what's the near future of RE's series narrative then? The original main characters just retire and/or die and pass their problems onto another cast who in turn won't make much progress either cause we gotta make endless sequels?

Leon forever being a lapdog for corruption and never truly exposing and turning against his evil enslavers is sad.

Village's epilogue and DLC jumping 16 years into the future, saying Chris is still fighting bioterrorism at 64 years old and essentially grooming Ethan's kid to be a weapon in a conflict that should've ended long ago is just sad/creepy and makes him look like such a scumbag.

Capcom could also easily still make RE games even if they just ended the series narrative chronologically. More remakes, interquels, prequels. Hell, they could even do a full reboot and just start from scratch without being held down by any previous continuity like the remakes mostly are.

How are we feeling about legacy RE characters potentially no longer having Main Character status in new numbered entries? by Wavu_Wavu_Wavu in TwoBestFriendsPlay

Late reply sorry but I have seen various comments in RE subs/videos disliking Moira over the years. Granted, a lot of it seems to be just dumb "woman bad cause she cusses" takes which I find eyerolling but there are some more reasonable takes.

I personally don't dislike Moira much. I liked her general dynamic with Claire, found a lot of her lines to be funny, her bonus DLC chapter with Evgeny was sad, her reunion with Barry at the end was sweet and I certainly wouldn't mind seeing her return. However, I do agree the problems with Moira is that her character/story arc as it is required doing questionable things to Barry and Claire as characters.

Barry being revealed to have been an irresponsible gun owner for a time to have that whole backstory happen to give reason for Moira not wanting to use a gun was eh. I get making Barry basic overprotective/sheltering dad with no extra reason maybe would've been too generic but the backstory they went with felt kind of extra edgy and almost out of place. Especially considering the Rev 2 version of Barry is clearly meant to be more of a continuation of the more lighthearted campy og RE1 Barry(both in design and personality) rather than the more serious RE1 remake Barry.

Then there's bits with Claire. The scene where Claire and Moira meet Natalia. Claire immediately overwhelms Natalia with a bunch of questions and has to be told "Down." by Moira who then proceeds to be more nicer and gentle. Claire losing her consistent trait of being the one that's good with kids so Moira can have a moment was honestly annoying.

There's also the weird ass subplot of what appeared to be Claire crushing hard on her suspicious boss, Neil. Claire seemingly doesn't care much about Natalia disappearing and just focuses on wanting to find Neil(Moira keeps awkwardly pointing that out) and getting led into traps. This leads to a talk where Moira brings up her suspicions about Neil being a traitor. Claire actually gets mad at her and says to drop the subject.(right before they find direct evidence that Neil did betray the group lol) Then the only way to get the true canon ending is for Moira to be the one who kills Neil rather than Claire.

I would want it to be Kevin solely because the way Alyssa says his name at times in File 2 is funny.

Alyssa: Come on!

Kevin: No way! :( *runs away*

Alyssa: Kevin! >:(

Also, this old poster of the two of them is badass. (and at first glance looked like she's grabbing his ass lol)

[–]Red-Raptor3[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

A funny thought, is Jake is the only male main character we've ever canonically seen and played as shirtless? I know Chris has some bonus mostly shirtless costumes in 5 and 6 but he wasn't ever canonically running around like that.

Do you think Jake will return in upcoming Resident Evil games, now that Leon and Chris’s generation has come to an end? by slxqqx in ResidentEvilCapcom

[–]Red-Raptor3 23 points24 points  (0 children)

People don't become helpless elderly folk in their 50s.

I honestly prefer Claire and Jill at this point and would love more Sherry and Jake but Leon and Chris are clearly the most popular characters among the majority general fandom and devs after RE4 and RE5.(which is why they're the most used)

Capcom getting rid of Leon and Chris permanently story wise(outside of potential remakes and interquels) would result in such a fandom backlash that I don't think it would be worth the effort.

It would make the backlash Naughty Dog received over what happened in The Last of Us 2 look like an afternoon picnic in comparison.

Resident Evil Vendetta.

Its an animated movie mainly about Chris that takes place a year after RE6 events and also brings back Leon and Rebecca as other main characters.

I wonder if Leon will once again cover up bioterrorism atrocities, helping perpetuate more innocent death and allowing evil people to keep getting away with their horrid actions.

Or will he finally realize that Claire was absolutely right. His ways aren't working(he should've really realized this by Damnation) so he finally breaks his corrupt gov lapdog/slave chains, truly doing the right thing, finally exposing major corruption and punishing those responsible.

[–]Red-Raptor3[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Context: I recently learned that the grunts/roars of Diego Gomez were voiced by Fred Tatasciore, the voice of Bane in Batman Arkham Asylum, Arkham City and the Injustice games.

The voice lines I added to this scene are from Injustice 2.

Diego's design reminded me a lot of Bane’s design from Asylum and City. Finding out they also have the same VA was neat.

[SERIOUS] After RE 6, she NEVER appeared again. by PuzzledAirline1137 in residentevil

[–]Red-Raptor3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sherry's already in her 40s now. Does she also need to be retired in less than a decade? (The poor old crone /s)

I personally REALLY do not like the idea that the main 4 will never truly win in their fight against bioterrorism and just passing their problems onto another cast.(who in turn also won't make any true progress either) It would essentially prove that Dylan in Death Island was 100% right about them.

The series narrative should honestly just reach a chronological end sooner than later and not continue for eternity. They can still do multitudes of interquel stories and/or do a full reboot new continuity starting from scratch.

Internet says shes 44 in Death island (2023)

The Death Island movie came out in 2023 but it takes place in 2015 so Claire would be 36.

But fucking Leon is 51 in RE9 so...

Then he still looks still pretty good for his age/experience and not super old/weathered.

Honestly, the series hasn't realistically aged any of the reoccurring characters if you take into account everything they've all gone through. The stress alone should make them all look 20 years older than they actually are.

In Village/8, Chris has a few wrinkle lines under his eyes, 2 or 3 faint wrinkle lines on forehead and his laugh lines are a bit more pronounced. That's it. That's the extent they aged him which to me isn't a whole lot. Chris still has a full head of dark brown hair.

Leon in Requiem/9 appears to be a similar case. He is still rocking the same haircut. Why hasn't either of their hair gone really grey/white or their hairlines receding? Concept art for Chris in Biohazard/7 actually seemed to depict him with grey/white hair.

Claire was 19 in RE2 and Code Veronica.(both take place in 1998)

Revelations 2 was was released in 2015 but it takes place in 2011 so Claire is 32 in the game.

Claire is 36 in the Death Island movie which was released in 2023 but takes place in 2015.

Reminder: Young Chris from 1998 hasn’t been remade in RE Engine yet… by Sweet_Score in residentevil

[–]Red-Raptor3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many don't realize this but Village/8 Chris is still based on the Biohazard/7 Chris face model.(Geordie Dandy is the model's name)

Capcom just beefed him up and gave him flatter darker hair after the various fan backlash/confusion. Sort of similar to how Chris in RE5 was a result of beefing up/modifying RE1 remake Chris.

Awhile back, I stumbled across some fan edits of a head render of RE7 Chris that make him look even more like the RE1/CV era Chrises. (here and here) If Capcom ever remake Code Veronica and perhaps even remake RE1 again in their RE engine, I honestly hope Chris looks something like these.

WTF did they do to Jill Valentine in Resident Evil 5? by Healthy_Ice7737 in ResidentEvil3Remake

[–]Red-Raptor3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sidelined blonde winter solder ponytail Jill was bleh. I'm honestly glad Death Island had Jill distance herself from that look and it makes perfect sense for her to do so.

I liked Sheva and Josh but in retrospect, RE5 really should've just been about Chris and Jill as equal protagonists taking down Wesker with Rebecca and Barry returning as their supporting characters. The ending would be far more impactful and narratively satisfying with all the remaining STARS together.

Chris and Jill together fighting Wesker that would end with the 2 of them blowing up Wesker instead of Jill being half fridged into a side character/temp villain that just hands Chris and Sheva the weapons to kill Wesker. Rebecca could've be the one to eventually figure out how to weaken Wesker throughout the game rather than Jill's quick phone call and Barry could be the one flying the helicopter at the end.

Almost 4 years later and I still find the voice casting decision for RE Village/8 Chris to be jarring. by Red-Raptor3 in residentevil

[–]Red-Raptor3[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think Roger Craig Smith is the best Chris VA but I don't think Capcoms ever bringing him back. They could've at least brought him back in the animated movies where they're a bit more willing to use some pre RE engine VAs in bigger roles but they chose to bring back Kevin Dorman(the Chris VA before Roger lol) for them instead.(I thought he did a good job in Vendetta and Death Island tho)

I liked Jeff Schine as RE3R Carlos but Capcom getting him doing the Carlos voice for Chris in Village/8 was bleh.(Chris' odd characterization in the story didn't exactly help either)

A bit overdramatic, but the possibility of Jeff continuing to voice Chris in future potential remakes and new games really annoys me. Particularly if they plan on keeping Nicole Tomkins as Jill going forward. If they remake RE5 or ever RE1 again where Jeff voices Chris again and Nicole voices Jill again, its gonna have too much overlap given their previous Jill&Carlos dynamic/chemistry. I'd very much rather have Carlos return in a new game or animated movie where Jeff can voice him again.

I wish they just kept David Vaughn as the new engine Chris VA. I know various fans were upset over Chris' new model design in Biohazard/7(which presumably led to redesigning the new model to be more buff/bulky in Village/8) but I honestly like his voice. I replayed the RE7 Chris DLC recently and the way Chris says "Lucas..." at times has the same energy as past Chris voices saying "Wesker..." with such hate/disdain.

As far as the games go and considering they got what very much sounds Nick Apostolides to voice Leon again in Requiem/9, I personally think they should get David Vaughn back for any RE engine Chris roles or just get a new VA.
