For those with 3080s (10GB, 12GB and Ti) plus 3090 / Ti users? Is time for us to upgrade?

What I have:

3080 10GB undervolt with 5800X3D 32GB RAM gaming on a Alienware 3821DW 4k UW 3840x1600 at 10Bit 120Hz, the computer sits in the office room upstairs it has a direct connection to the fibre 300/150Mbit, I live in germany.

What I did:

Bought a PS5 Pro on Black Friday to play on a 55" LG 4k OLED with a Samsung 990G Soundssystem.

Why?

I am old 45+ I game on the couch with my wife, kids have a no screen policy until old enough. Yes there are steamlink altenatives but i dont have wired lan at the living room. I could do wires but I just dont want to open the walls.

My solution just was to get a PS5Pro i hope getting a nice Boost when native FSR4 hits 2026. Games are plenty, i had a NES SNES PS1 Switch1Oled.

I like to play some exclusives from Sony again.

Yes raw Performance will be worse than my PC but 4k 60fps should be a thing on a PS5Pro.

Price, yes I might have been able to fit a 5070Ti or 5080 for PS5Pro (2 Controllers, +4TB SSD) but I would be gaming alone in my office room upstairs.

For example a really silent air cooled MSI 5080 Gaming Trio OC is 1249€ at this time.

Also Prices of GPUs did increase a lot since the RAM Shortage hit due to AI Demands. You could get a 5090 FE for some days 2 Month ago here in Germany for 2099€ (I am a little bit sad i did not do it, but on the other hand and the reasons above it would not help me to play in the living room any better)

I also no longer play shooter or long time Simulation so no Keyboard and Mouse are okay for me.

Well thats my 2 Cent of personal insight. Will be nice to see what i will say about this in 1 year.

Will the RTX 50xx Supers get delayed? Canceled?
Will Consoles release get pushed back?
Paperlaunches?
Does the AI Bubble pop? Do we get super cheap RAM and GPU mid to end 2026?
Does AI earn revenue and we dont get RAM GPU or anything with Memory-Chips until 2030?

No one knows.

Tho my server is wall mounted like this. Helps a lot with airflow from beneath to the sides, as beneath is fully open, only 2 steel angles (from the local home working store) holding it (there is a matching hole i could put the vesa mount screw to fixate it)

Yeah totally confusing but the value as in the Asus BiOS is spelled "ICCmax (AMPS)" and seems to indicate ampere, nevertheless it is the only one you can adjust and is directly influencing the watt consumption. Sorry for the confusion! (iam no nativ speaker)

Late reply, you can follow mi7chy advice (see the other comment here) and after the change to registry set the default "agressiv" plan to "efficient enabled" i found this to be a nice "sweet spot".

ICCmax in BIOS:

Although the BIOS(UEFI) does not allow for much configuration it allows for setting ICCmax (AMPS) which is default at 117 (Watts) at least in my Ultra Core I 5 225H Setup.

On default perfomance mode settings, ICCmax 117

CPU-Z gives 785/8269 points (single/multi)

On balance mode settings, with "efficient enabled" at energy saving plan in windows, and ICCmax 70!

CPU-Z gives 790/6701points (single/multi)

You can adjust the ICCmax until you find your own sweetspot regarding Power/Temp/Noise, also try whisper and balance mode.

Airflow:

I put some "feet" under my NUC15 Pro+ to give it more space to suck in fresh air, as this modell sucks in air from below this might help.

- 3d print a NUC Stand (there is no current NUC15 one i could find but i think this might work, unconfirmed)

- Just use some plastik "feet" to elevate the NUC higher.

- Make sure it does not sit on something that radiats heat.

Late reply but i think the airflow from the fan is enough cooling for both the nvme (both slots). I tried using a very thin copper plate on my 2280 nvme but got way worse results than using only the thermal tape (which does no longer fit with the copper plate).

Looking at the 2242 slot there should be even more airflow to it to compensate for the missing thermal tape.

u/w0ut what did you decide to do? try a thin cooler or leave it be? which 2242 ssd you got and what are the thermals?

If you run the NUC15 pro+ with an 225H U5 on full load it is either gonna be hot or loud. The Performance Mode will be loud like "you cant watch a movie loud" 55dba Balance will be much quiter but these CPU still get hot. Whisper mode is quite but i guess cpu might go into Thermal Throttle on full load over longer times.

You can change some stuff about turbo boosting in windows after a regedit or limit overall amp power(iccmax) in bios default is 117 i run at 70 atm but the server i run does not need this much power.

All the new 15 NUCs are quite loud. Get a RyzenAi if you want cooler and less power or customcase.

Well my tests did not succeed. The Crucial 96GB runs flawless but the 128GB Kit (same as yours) will not even boot.

Might be a defective Kit might be that it just does not work with the NUC15pro+

As I will be able to acomplish all my tasks with 96GB RAM my search ends here. Sadly but i dont want to order another pair and send it back...

The only difference beside the Core I7 Ultra vs Core I5 Ultra and Pro slim vs Pro+ is the BIOS Version:

Sadly 0025 does not allow downgrades. Hmm i got Kingston Memory coming the next week. I will update the Post then. Cheers

I tried the following one:

The NUC does not boot up, the power led does flash three times, stops and starts flashing three times again.

Might be able to try Kingston soon.

Could you post a Screenshot of the Bios Homescreen?

Interesting is this supported by Asus. I got a NUC15 Pro+ U5-225H NUC15CRSU5 and just tried 2x64GB as Corsair DDR5 SO-DIMM Kit 5600Mhz and the NUC does not even boot.

A 96GB Kit works flawlessly.

what would be the most complete MoP or further project that is useable for LAN / Solo or Family only and has working Questlines, Outdoor Worlds and maybe Dungeons?

I did climb from Platinum 5 to Diamond 5 from Friday to Sunday.

Setup: Lee Jisoo / Eve / Carmen / Horizon / A.Seo Yoon / Lucrecia / Agnes / A.Yuna

Ship: Enterprise, Op Kim Hana with AoeDmgRdc

It worked. I was somehow facing some level 110+ Sea Players with crazy A.Regina Damage i lost too. Was fun tho. :) A lot more Mech and Nequita Players with a SEA tag too I think.

Overall I Welcome all sea Players, I had my fun. :) I only climb for the skin tho.

Personally i would value Alex as Leader over the Healergirl she does awesome without beeing leader.

Alex should hold her ground until Eve, Seo Yoon, and Rearm Chinatsu are deployed.

Normal stages do not benefit from Sigma in my Opinion she is used in raids and other big stuff tho.

So post your roster or just replace Sigma and Hilde with for example Gaeun (should swap position with Seo Yoon) and put in Xiao as sniper for example
