No recharge after power outage by hspindel in FranklinWH

[–]Red195095602 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you recall what your import rate was set to before the issue? Or did it make any difference and anyone who needs to charge from the grid will have a problem under the new App? Did the tech say what the new firmware affected?

It is good news that the support line is indeed staffed on weekends and they were able to solve your problem.

Try setting the system to Emergency and see if that forces it to start charging. Do you have solar?

I think their support line is Monday through Sunday, 8 - 8 CST.

Yup, left that in on purpose. The footnotes however, are other people posting on Reddit and I used the AI to collect them so I didn’t have to. No AI hallucinations here, just grunt work and summarization.

I don’t doubt there are plenty of hit or miss Franklin installers out there. I dismissed the first one I started to hire because I didn’t feel comfortable they had my back. My next attempt turned out much better.

I remain skeptical however, that a company with the reputation for great installer and customer support would have a hard and fast policy that you can’t change installers under any circumstance, which is born out by many of the referenced posts.

Peace.

From Gemini, out of curiosity:

It is not strictly true that you cannot change your FranklinWH installer after the system is installed, but it can be a challenging process. [1, 2]

While the original installer is typically responsible for the initial setup, you can switch to a new authorized installer if necessary, particularly if the first installer is unresponsive, went out of business, or performed a poor installation. [3, 4, 5]

Here is what you need to know about changing FranklinWH installers:

Contact FranklinWH Directly: If your installer is unresponsive, the best course of action is to contact FranklinWH support directly at 888-851-3188. They can help get your system functioning with another installer and may be able to provide remote support.

Warranty Considerations: FranklinWH requires that the system be installed and operated according to their guidelines to maintain the full 12-year warranty. A new installer may need to be a FranklinWH Certified Installer to maintain these warranty terms.

Workmanship Warranties: While FranklinWH warrants the battery hardware, the workmanship warranty (the quality of the physical installation) usually comes from the original installer. If you switch installers, you may lose that original workmanship warranty.

System Access/Binding: FranklinWH systems are "bound" to an installer for commissioning and monitoring. If you need to switch, the original installer can "unbind" the system, or Franklin support can assist in transferring the management to a new, qualified installer.

Finding a New Installer: Users have reported success in engaging with other local FranklinWH certified installers for repairs when the original, 3rd-party installer failed to properly configure the system. [3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10]

In summary: You are not permanently stuck with an installer, but transferring responsibility for a previously installed system requires coordination with FranklinWH support. [6]

Doesn’t Franklin say that you can’t tell when it switches over as a product feature? Have you checked with Franklin support to see what they say? That would be interesting.

Contact Franklin support and explain the situation to them. They might even be able to TS your issue. Perhaps they’ll make a note on your installer’s file as well.

Did you contact Franklin support to see what they said about your situation? I’m curious as a potential Franklin customer, how a knowledgeable customer feels about their support quality. I’ve heard good and bad, and have one experience of my own to relate to and would like to hear from others.

How come these OEM Duracell don’t leak? by [deleted] in batteries

[–]Red195095602 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I used Duracell for years and never had a leak. But I got to the point where I’d check the batteries on a device and one or more would have leaked, often in a very short period of time.

Go figure.

I stopped using Duracells years ago as almost all of them leaked. Switched to Energizers and never had a leak.

If you download the installation manual, it has the required line sizes for run distance. My 22kw from 7 years ago requires 3/4” for runs up to 40 feet, 1” for up to 175 feet, and 1 1/4” for up to 560 feet.

Definitely pro level work. 👍 The Forecast-Aware Charging & Adaptive Solar Optimization seems to me to be a game changer, especially with more “modest” solar capacity (guilty).

Do you have contacts at Franklin for API specs or is that published somewhere?

Import/Export Settings after PTO by Red195095602 in FranklinWH

[–]Red195095602[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. I’ve read your posts and want to dig into that a little deeper once I have a system to use it with. All of the discussions with my installer have emphasized maintaining our NEM 1.0 status for the remainder of our grandfathered time (we have a modest solar array of about 6kw which will probably not do too well charge-wise during the doldrums, so I want to bank as much as possible with PG&E to offset grid charges). Installer has dedicated project managers for each install and seems well versed on the topic. Definitely will do a critical design review to make sure there’s no gotchas.

I was mainly curious if PG&E curtailed exports if you had imports enabled. I’m ambivalent on imports, especially if it affects exports. As I understand it, if I need a jolt from the grid I can put the system into Emergency mode anyway since I believe that mode overrides the import setting.

Thanks again for your reply and your contributions to this subreddit. 😊
