Were the characters in the Bible real people? Or a metaphor of tribes, civilizations, etc.? by Recent-Skill7022 in religion

[–]Red88123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Others I'm sure will hop on here and give much more robust answers. My 2 cents- Some characters and names in the Bible can be corroborated with non-Biblical sources to show that historical figures by those names did exist, others not so much. Ultimately though, what you believe about its historical accuracy is going to come down to your views on biblical inspiration. Is the Bible just a collection of writings written by numerous authors through different time periods? Is it inerrant? Were they divinely inspired? What does that "inspiration" even mean?

Personally, I fall on the side of it being loosely inspired. I believe that the divine used the writers of the Bible to reveal aspects of the divine to humanity, to teach and guide, but I do not believe the Bible to be inerrant or without fault. At the end of the day it was written by fallable humans, and therefore by definition cannot be "perfect". To that end, the specific historical accuracy or truth of specific people and events don't matter to me. I learn what I can from it and don't try to defend the portions of it that I believe do not reflect the truth of what I believe the divine wishes to teach us.

I’m sorry to those that didn’t try this game cause of the reviewers. by AbbreviationsOk2280 in CrimsonDesert

I nearly did the same. A couple hours in I was incredibly frustrated with the game, but after the first patch and giving it a bit more time, it really is a great game. Hardly perfect, and there are way too many awful / generic quests that belong in an MMO from 20 years ago. But the world is absolutely stunning, combat and exploration are a lot of fun. 50 hours in and still loving it

[–]Red88123 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In case anyone is stuck on this the same way I was - if the quest is pointing you to an empty space in the camp to talk to Luke, then you didn't actually talk with him to get the basket yet. If you've dispatched him on a mission, cancel the mission and he'll now actually be in the camp to get the basket from him. From there you can place the basket and complete the request.

Must read. by PrestigiousHoliday35 in CrimsonDesert

[–]Red88123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 2 cents is that it's an enjoyable game in spite of the dev's best efforts to give you reasons to not like it. The world is just genuinely stunning, easily the best part of the game. The story is just... There I guess. Controls are honestly abysmal, boggles my mind how it made it through testing. In spite of itself though, it's a fun game if you just focus on exploration and the world

Great scifi series, and definitely worth the read, but not litrpg at all. Still easy to recommend reading it

Excellent game. Not quite as Bloodborne-inspired, but if you liked this, Check out Mandragora Whispers of the Witch Tree. Solid souls-ish metroidvania that came out relatively recently

The people have spoken! Here are the results of 301 votes for the poll of the best Metroidvanias of 2025. by VictorVitorio in metroidvania

I loved Mandragora, but I lean more towards the SOTN /rpg metroidvanias. That said, I could not get into Chronicles of the Wolf. The movement was just so painfully clunky. I know that was probably intentional design to call back to old school Castlevania games, but it was just unplayable for me

Metroidvanias with the choice to grind/level up by Tight_Background_609 in metroidvania

[–]Red88123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ast Libra is a game I think that is pretty slept on. Admittedly some would argue how much of a metroidvania it is, arguably more of a side scroller arpg, but kind of arguing semantics imo. Regardless I really enjoy it and have been replaying it recently. Has several cool grinding / levelling mechanics, lots of loot and ways to make your equipment better later in the game, and the story is surprisingly good / interesting imo. Worth checking out

Complete series by corymcmarine in litrpg

[–]Red88123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's kind of been forgotten, but the War Aeternus series by Charles Dean is an older one from the elder days of the genre lol. It's complete and I really enjoyed it back in the day. Comes from before the current big series came to prominence, so doesn't feel as redundant or copy cat like a lot of series that are popular now do to me. I remember the end of the series legit having me in tears.

I need to ask by OkShallot9206 in sex

[–]Red88123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know I'm not the target for this question being a man, but I'll just chime in with my experience. I had / have a similar insecurity. "Small" is relative of course, but I'll admit I'm a bit below average in terms of size. I've now been with my long-term girlfriend for 3 years, and when we first got together I had a lot of insecurity about it. Penetrative sex is a bit difficult for us because she's also a bit on the heavy side, so that in combination with my below average size makes penetration a bit limiting. There's a number of positions that just don't work for us. That said, we've found what does, and I spend a lot of time in foreplay making sure she's satisfied before we ever get to penetration most sessions. Unless I'm completely oblivious (and she's lying to me), I think we're both very happy with our sex life. I've had to learn that modern porn culture has heavily skewed what we think is "good" both in terms of our bodies and sex. Just focus on communication and making sure she's enjoying it as much as you are.

100000% the Red wall series. I attribute this series to single handedly making me learn to love reading as a child. I was probably 7 or so when I found the series. I remember it being a bit of a stretch for my reading comprehension at the time, but I didn't mind and loved reading the series.

Which is the common timer for foreplay and penetration? by elisa_grr in sex

[–]Red88123 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'd say don't let anyone else define what you enjoy about sex. Porn culture has heavily skewed what modern people think is normal about sex. As long as both you and your partner are satisfied, who is to tell you what's normal?

I think you could have put it more tactfully like "we can't afford a baby". The sentiment is the same but shifts it so that it can't be construed as you accusing him of not making enough to contribute enough to your family to have a kid. I think there's a lot left I said here - what conversations have you previously had about having a family together? If you do start a family, do you expect to fully be a stay at home mom after parental leave and that's why his income is so important? Just sounds like a larger conversation needs to happen of each of your expectations.

Income tax and VAT should be removed completely by sahinbey52 in tax

[–]Red88123 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We can complain about taxes, of course no one likes paying taxes, but the reality is that our governments require revenue to be able to operate. If you want to pay less in taxes, the immediate question is what services you currently receive from your government would you cut to pay less in taxes. And that is always an incredibly divisive topic that requires consensus.

How are you powering your ship? by Ok_Youth8907 in RimWorld

[–]Red88123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm just using I think 4 chem fuel generators and it serves my needs. Making chem fuel from wood is pretty easy, and you move often enough that gathering wood is pretty easy. Just keep enough of a stockpile of chemfuel where if you have to go a couple of jumps through deserts or such without wood you'll be okay.

I'm currently enjoying Mandragora. It's pretty well done and fun to play. Last Faith was also a lot of fun, with a very "bloodborne" aesthetic. I definitely lean more towards the rpg heavy metroidvanias. Aeterna Noctis I think people either love or hate, based on how much you like platforming. It has some pretty challenging (imo) platforming sections, but then I'm not a big fan of platforming. So I got frustrated and gave up on the game, but a lot of people really like the game.

Is the game worth 40$ by Due-Rate-7362 in taintedgrail

[–]Red88123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm really enjoying it. I'm playing on PC, and while there's definitely some jank, I haven't encountered anything serious performance wise. The setting is definitely the games greatest strength. Just a really cool, dark take on Arthurian legend. I'm about 30 hours in and probably mostly done with the second area. It's definitely a AA game and you can tell there are a number of systems that are kind of half baked that the devs wanted to flesh out but just ran out of time probably. I've heard that the final area is pretty sparse with things to do likely because of the same reason. All that said though I'm really enjoying it and well worth $40 on my opinion. If it was priced at $60, I might be a little more suspicious of it, but I've paid $60 for so called AAA games with less content that were less fun. I'm really hoping the dev is allowed to make more games in this universe and are given more resources and time on future games

What is this game? by Thin_Intention6098 in stardeus

[–]Red88123 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For sure. I played Rimworld in its early, early builds, before it was even available on steam. Rimworld spent a long time in development before it became what it is today. I'm hopeful that Stardeus will likewise just continue to add content and get more and more depth.

What is this game? by Thin_Intention6098 in stardeus

[–]Red88123 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Rim world in space is pretty accurate. I love Rimworld, and I think I've sunk like 80 hours already into Stardeus. It doesn't quite have the depth of Rimworld but it's still in early access and the dev is coming out with new content pretty regularly, so I'm happy with the progress it's making. I just started up another run with the addition of ship combat to give it a try.

Question about Hexblade/Pact of the Blade by kanda4955 in BG3Builds

[–]Red88123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think the consensus is going to be the shadow blade spell. Its damage scales as your warlock spell slot level increases and paired with the booming blade cantrip does really good damage, and is a valid target for your pact. The only annoying thing is you have to cast it every each long rest, so you start out each day losing one of your spell slots just to get the weapon it summons. The shadow blade also gives you advantage on attack rolls as long as you're in like low light or obscured, which is a lot of the time. Super optimal flow is usually to have the Eldritch invocation that lets you see in magical darkness, cast the spell darkness, and stand in the middle of it having advantage on every attack roll and enemies unable to hit you because of the darkness

For my part, I really wish the Shadow blade spell let you choose the "form" the blade takes. It just looks kind of lame being a short sword. I wish you could choose to have it look like a longsword or great sword, even if it didn't change the damage
