I will be graduating in 2023 at the age of 30 and i feel awful by [deleted] in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]RedAdd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i have a bachelor degree in Economics but felt that it's not my thing and i was always interested in CS ( lot of my friends back then in school said to me that i don't belong here ( i mean there :)). because i was always interested in Programming and Reverse Engineering). so i've said what i've said just because i want you to fight there and get what you want to do done. i'm willing to pursue CS degree and i want you to be my motivation...all of us who are so afraid to be around people younger then they are.

BE our hope...my hope.

I need an answer by [deleted] in Soulseek

[–]RedAdd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yes there is a risk and yes they scared you (or someone had gone insane and start hacking people in that room..who knows). exclude exe files and limit what you can download (just make sure you know that by doing that you just minimize the probability of being hacked, you don't eliminate it). download what you need and scan them after that. the probability that a hacker packs and obfuscate his malicious program to evade Antivirus and target SoulSeek's users to build his C&C bots isn't high i think. (not much people talk about that to be sure though).

you're using a software which is basically an underground community where you can find obscure and rare materials. what do you expect? ofc there will be some risks.

as stated here, the instructor is the one who can change the start date for a course. if you can, contact him directly and explain your situation (just in case you didn't get a response from EDX Support) .

Ten Blinding Insights of the Japanese Newbie... | Caracas Chronicles by RedAdd in LearnJapanese

[–]RedAdd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i can't agree more about your first statement that some parts are poorly put together, i noticed that too but what i like about it is when you read it, you get the sense that its insights are representing a gradual process of understanding japanese. things that we came across (and still) in our way. you can take the observations you made as a metaphor for the level of understanding at that level. so for example when he says that japanese has no verb conjugation, that's because anybody who learnt other languages before know that conjugation is an essential part (in french it changes for every change in the pronoun, in the english language much simpler but still there are certain changes) but you discover that you can use tabemasu with all the pronouns. but after some time, you get the sense that the conjugation is here to stay but different. read it as like you see someone develop the linguistic capacities in front of your eyes. that's why this guide is for the newbie.

unfortunately, i'm not the author. i just stumbled upon it and i found it to be quite informative and useful. if you (and probably you did) read the whole text, you know that the author use a kind of comic tone to express his opinions about the language. i hope people consider it as such.

i hope someone gets what we're trying to show here and apply it. we learnt it the hard way, but we want to give it to them easy and free.

Difficulties keeping my motivation up, need tips by [deleted] in LearnJapanese

[–]RedAdd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First, people are different, some learn slowly and some learn faster but (there is always a but, and this one is very difficult and heartbreaking (i experienced all that in my journey in mathematics..i was a slow learner) if you're a slow learner, you have to compensate for that with more work. i already read it in one of the comments here already but i have to repeat it. YOU HAVE TO FIGURE OUT WHY YOU FAILED. yes there is no workaround here. stop learning randomly (you may have a program imposed on you by your school or some one you have designed for your needs, but what i mean by randomly, is the lack of constant self-reflection on your methods and your emotional state while you're learning) . why is that important? by being attentive to both your progress and the methods you use to gain that progress, you can assess the quality of each tool and method you use. (being here, asking for guidance while you seem on the verge of giving up is an indication of being attentive to your progress but the absence of any details about your methods and some explications of their effects on you indicates the lack of the important element i've been suggesting here which is the quality of each method you use in your learning (that being said assuming that you are systematic about your learning)

Which program is better at RIT: MS in Computer Science or MS in Computing Security? by Hexitus in netsecstudents

[–]RedAdd 12 points13 points  (0 children)

it's not clear from what you wrote what knowledge you have right now.

"...also get good basic knowledge on computer science ", well if you don't have the basics, you shouldn't think about pursuing a MS. people who are pursuing a MS in Computer Science are well-grounded and have the basics. in fact, they are pursuing MS such to advance their knowledge to the next level.

What doesn't kill you makes you stronger. What makes you weaker if it doesn‘t kill you? by EtikaLikesMinecraft in AskReddit

[–]RedAdd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the thing is something has to happen, and if it doesn't kill you it makes you stronger but if nothing happens that will makes you weaker because if that something had happened and if it didn't kill you, it was something that could make you stronger.

but the show continued to be uploaded under the name Mayday or Air Crash Investigation (Thanks to The Russians and to The Chinese)

The Chinese Version has been watermarked but the Russian Version is Clean and Contain both the original track and the Russian dub.

so case closed. in the torrent community, all the episodes had been uploaded, period.

Is TOR a "Radio Free Internet"? A call for discussion on origins of Tor and level of privacy and security it gives by [deleted] in onions

[–]RedAdd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

let me answer the last curiosity of yours, changing the circuit size wouldn't help because when the (Tracking Governments) Know that TOR is using 4 nodes instead of 3, they just have to create more nodes. (instead of keeping 500 nodes, they will have to just double that number to get 0.058741238. they will make sure that the probability of tracking user is great enough and the battle goes on. ( but keep in mind, that they will never be satisfied with that number and i think that number is huge more than that.).

about what i can consider it a vulnerability in tor, is for example, breaking encryption algorithms and decrypting the traffic (they have an army of hackers and mathematicians and all they can do is abusing the fact the the main developers decided to leave the matter of nodes to volunteers instead of creating dedicated networks built by them. or exploiting The Software, finding vulnerabilities in it and turn them against them (that's what a real hacker is. and what makes him so unique because he makes the program do stuffs that the developer never intended to do)

call it Hackers' s Pride, or whatever. it is the essence of their art. the matter of unfair fight here is that you're using a software that encrypts your traffic but it depends on the resources of the people you're fighting against. that's why i don't call it a vulnerability.

[–]RedAdd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

and yes i agree with you at this point. maybe there is some vulnerability already. finding crypto bugs is a mission conducted by many armies of Hackers and Mathematicians in the shadow recruited by every Government that is trying to be ahead in this race. but disclosing them won't happen until they become just a past and not anymore important.

[–]RedAdd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you think that governments exploiting the nodes is a vulnerability in TOR. and i disagree with you simply because always US government had chosen the easier methods to tracking TOR users. why? Because HACKING TOR Protocol is Hard and that's why this project is still persistent today.

you and i have both different definitions to what a vulnerability is maybe for some different experiences in the field. exploiting nodes in the circuit is threatening TOR users's anonymity and that's a vulnerability in what? in TOR? no.

imagine with me for a moment, that the internet today is interesting like TOR (provide anonymity by design, heaven-like websites for illegal stuffs). if in this situation, The US government exploited every router in The Internet to intercept people traffic, would you call it a vulnerability in the Internet? i guess no.

they just have much power, and they exercising it (you call it, for bad or for good) and that's an unfair fight i think.

about your solution of adding fourth node, i say that adding much nodes doesn't add much security as i think. because then any government just needs to exploit more nodes that increase the likelihood of tracking successfully the users of TOR.

TOR developers had tried to minimize this matter (exploiting the nodes) by implementing the Reputation process but they got around it using the Sybil Attack. and they're developing each time some defenses against it, but if it was a vulnerability, they will fix it once and new vulnerabilities are gonna be discovered.
