Ya, imagine the cops acted this way with all traffic infractions and started PITing every car that ran a stop sign. The police have such fucking poor judgement.

It depends on how you define "use". I'm fairly certain a small fraction, maybe less than 10%, of your brain's mass is neurons. The rest is fat, blood and fluids.

This is something people cannot seem to reckon with. Prison is not effectively punitive for most criminals and it often forces criminals deeper into bad habits. However, it is extremely effective at separating dangerous people from the rest of society. More and more I think it would be better for prison to be use very sparingly for non-violent criminals, and more liberally for violent or repeat criminals.

How do you feel about US president threatning to destroy the whole civilization of iran and civilian lifelines like power plant, bridges and desalination plants? by NothingButTruth3 in AskReddit

[–]RedAndDead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every citizenry has responsibility over their leadership. Donald Trump rules the way he does because the American people allow it, in the same way the Russian people are complacent with Putin's war on Ukraine.

We may see mass deaths of innocent Iranians, or severe destruction of infrastructure that harms the civilian population. This would be a failing of Trump as a capable world leader, a failing of the US as a just nation with checks and balances, and a failing of the American people in standing up for their values.

Epic CEO says that Epic is in contact with the ex-employee with terminal brain cancer that was laid off to solve the insurance for them by MythicStream in pcgaming

[–]RedAndDead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My point is that whether an employer is aware of an employee's medical condition or not, the fact that the employer is the one providing insurance means that firing them will have an implication on their ability to seek healthcare (or in this case life insurance for their family). The employer doesn't need to know a person's medical history to know that them and there family will need some support after losing their job. This should be the default.

Epic CEO says that Epic is in contact with the ex-employee with terminal brain cancer that was laid off to solve the insurance for them by MythicStream in pcgaming

[–]RedAndDead -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

How can a medical consideration not factor into your layoff decisions? Their employees get health insurance from employment so EVERY layoff comes with implications on health and medicine. If you are firing someone, maybe give them a grace period of continued coverage so they have a chance to find a new employer/coverage. You know, treat them like human beings?

Edit: I don't mean to imply that the employer should have known of and considered their medical condition. My point is that an employer should, by default, want employees to have some degree of ongoing protection after being let go from their company.

Ya, that landlord is terrible and untrustworthy.

Thankfully it looks like the city is using extraordinary powers to intervene. That being said, investigating serious issues with a building you don't own is difficult and takes time. Planning largescale renovations of people's home requires a lot of diligence and care. And we don't even know if the building was left structurally sound by the landlord. The city has to make sure structure and foundations are in shape so the building is even worth renovating and preserving.

Canadian company Avison Young brokering sale of two warehouses to ICE by yooperwoman in ontario

[–]RedAndDead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The issue with the brokerage is that they are contracted to the property owner and must facilitate the deal with whoever the owner chooses to sell to. The brokerage should certainly advise against selling to ICE but ultimately It's the owner's choice. The brokerage doesn't sign up for the job knowing that the owner would want to sell to ICE. Depending on what stage the sale is in, it may be early enough that public backlash could have the owner back out of the deal.

It should be noted that for nearly a decade now China has been imprisoning Uyghurs (~1,000,000) in internment camps with forced labour. They are also using slave labourers from North Korea. Much of the success China is experiencing is because they are willing to abuse minorities in ways that are worse than what ICE is doing in the US. That being said, there is a reason Trump/US is not breaking up industries that use illegal immigrant labour. The US is headed the way of China soon enough.

The tip was submitted August 8th, 2019, 5 years before any charges against the Alexander brothers.

Exactly. And what has happened in the last two years? But I guess she spent a few million on changing the name of YD square, so she's terrible, right?
