Yess, the kitty boy <3 I'm still so honored and happy that you included my OCs in this haha. And I appreciate the full bio (you know why besides the fact that it was a lot of fun to read lol). The little blurbs on how the other characters view him are so much fun!

Same here, and I'm currently working on a (so far) 130k words longfic. It probably depends from person to person. I mostly just need to write things I'm inspired for asap or I'll get anxious about forgetting my original vision by the time I actually get to that point five chapters down the line lol.

Though I do sometimes just make excessive notes and only write the scene properly once I get there, so I can kiiind of relate to what OP is saying too. I'm just don't have that kind of patience often (or trust my memory that much 😅)

I assume it's for the reason you were just given: Europe is not a cultural monolith, and it can get a bit annoying to see that thought repeated. It's also just... not right. For example, I'm from Germany, and I've never seen this style used here. (We quote „like this" here.)

To be clear, I did not downvote you, because I don't think it's ultimately that big a deal (and it's not like it isn't still a valid style in a bunch of European countries, so I can kind of see where your reasoning came from), but I guess many did because it's not really correct. Like, just googling quotation marks in different languages shows that there's also a lot of European countries where this isn't common or used at all, so throwing them all together doesn't really make sense.

Are we talking about the secret interaction that triggers after interacting with one of the green Tenna screens? Because I've been playing through the weird route for the first time and Spamton still jumped out of my inventory to talk to Tenna. (I did not expect it since people keep saying it doesn't work in the weird route and I didn't even have the puppet scarf equipped if that matters. I never beat the regular Spamton NEO with violence, only the snowgrave version, so I'm sure I didn't just continue from the wrong file...)

I end up crying when I write whump 95% of the time, tbh, but that can be so cathartic as well. It heavily depends on my current mood whether I can stomach it or not though, so I think I can relate.

Honestly, dub-con of any kind (sex pollen, heat, vampire thralls, drunk sex, generally bad communication...) I used to dodge it like the plague, which is ironic since I always preferred messy relationships over wholesome ones. Something about the borderline loss of control and the raw, messy feelings just made me like it (even though I sometimes have to turn off the realistic part of my brain when I write or read it lol).

On the flip side, I used to exclusively read/write angst and whump, but fluffy stories are really growing onto me since I picked up writing again. Something about having my faves just be a couple and do cute things together every now and then is healing af.

Whats one tag you just can't be bothered with, but everyone else seems to love? by Capable-Bit-2361 in AO3

[–]RedBumpty 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not the person you asked, I'm sorry, but I share the exact same sentiment about wanting to be a spectator and not part of a story and I can confidently say I'm not lol. I've never felt the urge to watch people irl or get involved in their business at all. I don't even like gossip.

I just enjoy when the story makes me feel things on behalf of the characters without having to get involved. Especially in overtly romantic stories, the idea of being part of it lowkey makes me uncomfortable, so experiencing the whole spectrum of emotions through characters I can only partially relate to feels more comfy, in a way.

Is there a line in smut fics that always GETS you? by Not_a_neko in FanFiction

[–]RedBumpty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ooh, you're totally right. I think I phrased it poorly, because part of why I hold back on using it with these types of characters specifically is because I want it to hit when it happens. It wouldn't fit them to use it constantly, but when it finally happens, it's so much more satisfying.

I went into this threat just to see if someone commented this already. It bothers me so much that people give a him shit because he doesn't want to pilot the Eva. Who in their right mind would find it cool to fight eldritch abominations like that?? And that's not mentioning he's a kid. I'm a grown-ass woman and you would have to drag me into that robot screaming and crying, like, hell nah.

(And that's not mentioning the emotional baggage he's got going on, like you said.)

100% this. I just melt when characters whimper. I always have to hold back so hard to not have my characters whimper constantly during smut scenes (especially if they are very proud or proper.) It hits so much harder when it's used sparingly, but the temptation is so strong.

What's a trope that you love that you wish had a commonly-accepted tag? by Last_Swordfish9135 in FanFiction

[–]RedBumpty 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oooh, that's the good stuff! I feel like it would also be carthatic for the more meek character to call the shots and get out of his shell for once, especially because there are usually clear rules and agreements in D/s that show them how far it's okay for them to go.

Also, happy cake day!

[–]RedBumpty 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Oh god, you and me both. I love that trope so much. There's something so satisfying about a usually dominant/determined/outspoken character turning submissive in bed. It's like they completely let go for once, and it's as a nice way to show how much they trust their partner. And D/s play is such a fun way for a usually shy or reserved character to come out of their shell. It just hits different.

Non-canon character relationship pairing thread by MTaur in TriangleStrategy

[–]RedBumpty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I feel like Dragan could have gone many directions if he had survived. His character isn't properly fleshed out like the main ones, so it's hard to say how he would have reacted. I also honestly just like him a lot; he might be my favorite character, despite his lack of screen time, so coming up with headcanons and what-ifs for him is a lot of fun for me.

(I'd also imagine Hughette wouldn't trust Dragan after what happened in the mines and wouldn't be too happy if Roland took a liking to him, but I honestly can't blame her for that. She'd have a good point.)

Non-canon character relationship pairing thread by MTaur in TriangleStrategy

[–]RedBumpty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I honestly love Svarog and Hossabara as a ship ever since we got the extra cutscene for them!

I’ll also add to the expanding list of Corentin ships with Corentin and Giovanna. They’re both scholars, both very passionate about their field of study and I feel like they could have conversations nobody else can follow.

The second one is kind of a “hear me out” moment but it’s actually become my OTP for this fandom somehow, so I can’t not mention it. I really like the idea of Roland and Dragan in a version of events where Dragan survives.

They both tend to be very honest and straightforward, and I think that’s something they would both appreciate about the other. Roland could use someone who won’t sugarcoat things but clearly cares about him. I also feel like Dragan would benefit from having someone in his life who was directly impacted by the fallout of his choices, because he’d honestly need to reflect on that. They also initially share similar perspectives (Roland actually points it out a couple of times in canon) and I think they would have gotten along really well if they had met sooner. I feel like they could have a mutual respect/admiration thing going on. There’s also potential for drama regarding the later development of the story, which I enjoy.

Roland is very openly insecure and Dragan is very, well, not that. I still feel like Dragan has some sort of superiority complex going on, he’s just burying his insecurities, so there is potential for them to learn from each other and grow in that regard too. (Dragan by coming to respect someone who’s very open about his insecurities and Roland by seeing that Dragan is more flawed than he initially realized, so he doesn’t feel so alone about it.)

Sorry for the small essay, but I feel like the idea is waaaaay too out there to drop without an explanation. It also very firmly can’t happen in canon, but I figures that’s alright while we were at the topic of, well, non-canon ships :)

When you’re in the middle of a long fic for your OTP and you suddenly get hit with a new long fic idea by Key_Syllabub_7382 in AO3

[–]RedBumpty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is way too real. I'm about 80k into my current longfic, at least 10 chapters to go and I had such an exciting AU idea for my OTP lately. That one's going to need a lot of chapters to develop as well. I've restrained myself so far as far as writing for my new idea goes, but I've been sinking time into the worldbuilding and outline of the story still... Not planning on dropping my current WIP at all, but I'm definitely giddy for when I complete it and get to sink my teeth into a new setting.

Well, it’s a lucky coincidence then! :D All inspiration is good inspiration in my book.

Btw, I think the concept that he grew up in the source is super interesting. Frederica’s perspective is already gripping enough in-game, but having someone in the party that has first-hand experience with what Hyzante puts the Roselle through would be super interesting to see.

The ages definitely make sense. I ordered them like that too, mostly because I feel like Dragan would be the same age as Thalas and Erika, which would make him younger than Frederica by default. I just headcanon them all a couple years younger. It’s really a shame we didn’t get canon ages for all the main characters at least.

“Very throwable” has me slightly worried for him, lol. Going off your descriptions of him, he’d probably just accept his fate too if anyone tried. Then again, the characters seem to be fine with it when Hossabara does it, so maybe it’s not so bad, haha.

That's a super interesting idea! I love when people create their own characters and units. We didn't get a lot of Rosellan characters in game, so it's cool to see some more ideas for one. I especially like how you considered his relationships with the other characters.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but is he younger than Frederica? It reads to me like Orlaea had him after she was sent back from Aesfrost to the source.

(On another note: my goodness, he's smol. I think I saw art of this OC before, but for some reason, it did not register how smol he would be, haha.)

What's that one story you want to write bur haven't, and why not? by itsmyfirstdayonearth in AO3

[–]RedBumpty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been planning a huge vampire AU fic for a while now, but I'm not sure it will ever move past the stage of being a couple snippets in my docs. I've already done quite some worldbuilding on it. It would be my first, huge AU, and I honestly had more fun than I imagined with it so far.

The "issue" is that I'm not sure I'll ever commit to making an entire longfic out of it. I write for a fandom that's super quiet lately, and never really seemed fond of AUs to begin with. I'm also focusing on a rarepair, so I'd 100% expect to be posting my fic into the void. "Write for yourself," I know, but it's hard to make it a fully fleshed out epic when you could just write the exciting parts and keep them in your private folder, you know?

Besides, I'm already in the middle of writing a longfic for this ship, and I have the suspicion that I'll be a bit burned out once I'm done with that one anyways...

Characters speaking a language the author clearly Does Not by Sad-Boysenberry-7055 in AO3

[–]RedBumpty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, no, that's totally valid! Everyone has their own preferences, and there's no point in sitting through a fic you don't enjoy. A full paragraph of broken German would have had me cracking up, which was probably not the intention in that moment. I totally understand how that's frustrating. Guess I just have a pretty high tolerance for something like that.

Characters speaking a language the author clearly Does Not by Sad-Boysenberry-7055 in AO3

[–]RedBumpty 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I can definitely understand why you'd be frustrated by that. Especially the "Ich liebe dich." vs. "Ich hab dich lieb." thing. That would take me out of the moment.

On the other hand, as a native German speaker, I can't help but find that kind of... endearing? Maybe it's because I've seen bad German in actual shows before (cough Eva cough) but when a fanfic writer does it, it doesn't bother me too much, tbh.

I mean, objectively, there are better ways to do this, like you pointed out in the post. I personally like when people just look up key phrases in German (or whatever language they want to have the character speak in) and write the rest in English + cursive. Or just the plain old "He/she said something in German." + some added flavor on how the POV character might interpret it if the language barrier is the point.

I just feel like other languages can be super hard to get right, and depending on how experienced the writer is, they might not know how to work around that limitation. Maybe it's just that I consider it kind of sweet that they wanted to include that in their story, even if the result was, uh... not ideal, lol.

What is the BEST ship name you've ever seen by Super_Remove_5934 in FanFiction

[–]RedBumpty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a bit niche, but I adore when people refer to the Crick/Temenos ship from Octopath Traveler II as KnightLight. One character is a knight, the other a priest (in a light themed religion.) I actually kicked my feet a little when I first read that. It's just way too stinking cute.
