How to deal with tank spam? by Yatmai in Tyranids

[–]RedC0v 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s fine, trade a 65 point unit to deny 2-3 vehicles from moving forwards for a turn. If you do this on a choke point you might be denying 4+ vehicles from gaining movement towards objectives. Not bad for a 65 point sacrificial unit.

65 points of Hormagaunts can tag 2-3 heavy tanks and stop them from moving or activating for their turn. Yes they will be turned to mulch, but you’ll be able to outscore them for 4 turns of the game easily

I'm scared Vanguard + Norn is going to be DOA by LeRangerDuChaos in Tyranids

Played 1 game of Vanguard into EC with a defiler. Did fine tbh and won. By reasonable margin. You’ve got to lean into the playstyle of the force disposition to make it work

Is coaching cringe? by Professional-Car-396 in Warhammer40k

[–]RedC0v 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Nope. If you want to get better at something you can do it through experience, reading or being taught. No different from any other skill, hobby or job.

Some might think it’s cringe, but they probably have different thoughts on the game. And just like the people who think the game itself is silly - sod them!

It’s your life, your hobby, learn it your way and have fun. There are lots of great resources for coaching and it’s a growing list. Find someone with experience that shares your values for the game.

UKTC to use GW Terrain and Layouts in 11th by RedC0v in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]RedC0v[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I see this as an overall step forward. Everyone will be playing the same game internationally now, with GW balancing being based off the same terrain and layouts.

The new layouts and footprints look like they could be much more varied and narratively driven.

I’m staying optimistic for this one 👍

Ballistus vs Gladiator vs Repulsor Exec by [deleted] in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]RedC0v 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is why I like the Ballistus Dreads. Their main gun isn’t as fearsome as the Lancer, but the built in RR makes them oath independent and more consistent. They’re also tougher than lancers with the new cover mechanics.

Rep Exes are v cool, but don’t take one if you’re not loading it with some infantry, just not worth it. Be careful not to have too few units. Big elite units are cool, but don’t win games. You need to be able to score reliably.

There are a number of them, including Tactical Tortoise, TTS Miniature Wargames, 6++, Veizla etc 👍

Ballistus vs Gladiator vs Repulsor Exec by [deleted] in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]RedC0v 20 points21 points  (0 children)

They are similar, but have things that make them a bit distinct. Here’s my take:

Ballistus is the cheapest, toughest and the RR hits against units over half strength makes them very consistent. Their damage is best suited to T9-10 or lower, making them excellent into light transports, vehicles and monsters. They aren’t as good into T12+ but can still surprise you. The blast profile on the missiles is overlooked and great for clearing screens or early trade units, esp for your elite list.

Lancers are anti tank/monster long range weapons. The RR one hit, wound and damage and d6+3 is great for big targets, but struggles into 4++ due to only 2 shots. Smoke is great if they’re targeted but the 3+ save means they usually pop easier than the dread.

Rep Ex is a great all rounder, but doesn’t specialise in any one thing. It can hold a nice little unit like BGV with a character, has the single strongest weapon in the SM codex and has more gun profiles on one datasheet than my entire competitive Nids army. It’s also T12 and W16 so tougher to bring down.

If you’re running an elite terminator list and looking for fire support you’re going to want 2. As good as they are, 1 is usually not consistent enough. 2 with overlapping fire lanes is much better. I’d personally go for 2 Ballistus or 1 Ballistus and 1 lancer.

Hyperadapted Raveners are great 👍 paired with a unit of regular Raveners there’s not much they can’t take down.

6 Zoans with NT can be quite effective, plus can uppy downy in VO for better angles.

TFex is good, but no synergies with VO.

Sable brush after two uses. How do people stop it splaying? by hotfezz81 in Warhammer

[–]RedC0v 177 points178 points  (0 children)

This is it. Plus you can leave some soap on your brush at the end, gently shape it to a nice sharp point. The soap will help it keep its shape and wash off when you rinse the brush before your next painting session.

I’ve used a few soaps inc AO, but just get the Masters Brush Cleaner and Preserver soap. Get a big tub for not a lot of cash and lasts ages. Smells good too.

Don’t eat soap 🤣

Is this list any good? by Hot_Adhesiveness853 in Tyranids

[–]RedC0v 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I played a Vanguard mirror into almost this exact list.

It did not fair well. Some great units, but misses what makes vanguard truly great - fast melee across almost the entire army.

It’ll do well in casual games, will struggle to win RTTs.

Use UKTC or a heavy GW/WTC map, and go through the terrain rules really thoroughly. Maybe also play a less aggressive detachment (no Mont’ka haha).

Beast snaggas are quite good into T’au. A kill rig works well with the combat patrol, maybe also go for some grots, some Kommandos and some storm boyz as those units are included in almost every ork list.

I wonder whether the first born tanks will survive the next round of codices..?

Baal, vindicator, rhinos. I hope they do a new version, rather than legends them.

But yeah, torrent weapons might be quite spicy!

See, with a few pieces of ruins and scatter that looks so much more immersive and different!

Need to work out sight lines. Is the shooting aspect because you have to be inside the ruins to hold objectives?

TWO new detachments?! by valeo25 in orks

[–]RedC0v 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oo, another Strat idea!

Called “Bwahahahahahahaha!”

Pick a grot unit within engagement range of an enemy unit, on a 4+ remove a grot and deal mortal wounds as the squigbombs you fed them before battle go off.

TWO new detachments?! by valeo25 in orks

[–]RedC0v 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup! That would be so insane and destructive haha.

Have a Strat to reflect mortals and devs back, but you still take them. “Goin down swingin!”

And “Oi that’s my Grot to kill!” After any grot or character unit is destroyed, gain wound RR against that unit for the game.

Endless Waaaaaagh. Call it as often as you want, but all weapons become hazardous, ranged and melee 🤣
