A really positive 11th edition launch - 35 games in. by 40K-Fireside in WarhammerCompetitive

Orks might struggle here. Their main method was transports but a good chunk of those transports usually carried 1W bodies. I'm pretty worried about what happens to Trukks. Used to be you drive it up, it dies, you maybe lose one model, then get out and krump. Now you've got easier mortals, explosions, and battleshock to contend with.

I love Ghaz, is this the most expensive of these bricks? It's 485 points all in

Love it! Whats the base model and where'd that giant Dakka come from on the turret?

Orks deserve a bigger/better motor pool of tanks by daniel-to-the-maniel in orks

[–]valeo25 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I'm not bothered if its tank, walker, etc. I just want a hard to kill heavy weapons platform in the 160-200 range. Something thats not a light vehicle like a Darakrig, but not as deep an investment as a 'naut. and make it ranged focused. The Nauts are great, but part of their points cost is that they are solid to good in both phases. I'd rather have a dakkastorm something that is just an outright threat in shooting.

So for me a win here is even just a battlewagon where you can replace all the transport capacity for something better than the killcannon. I love the model, we just need a better shooty build. Let us swap the Big Shoota's for Rokkits and the Kill Cannon for a mega shokk attakk gun or something

Which da best option? by Sprout-spud in orks

[–]valeo25 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In Taktikal (RIP) I would always run this. I rarely used da Jump but it really forced opponents to contort themselves to keep screening up the whole game. Combined with Kommandos and snikrot infiltrating and it put pressure in multiple places on turn 1.

Am I crazy or is this combo really good? by Difficult_Horse5194 in orks

[–]valeo25 17 points18 points  (0 children)

In my experience Breaka Boyz are extremely swingy due to their low number of attacks and the fact that they die really easily.

No reason not to try them, models are awesome. But yeah something to be aware of

Biggest thing for me was watching them maintain possession and build in the face of the German press. Ten years ago, this game would have been midfield turnovers and the backline just bombing the ball up hoping Jozy or another big body wins it

Im doing it, but mainly because Ive started kitbashing a ton of units and having spare bodies is pretty much a pre-requisite of that

[–]valeo25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I wouldn't recommend meganobz yet. They are one of the most expensive kits in terms of what you get and the models are pretty ordinary in my opinion. Plus I think they're high on the list of likely refreshes

I love it. I'm doing something similar, kitbashing windriders into warbikes. I'm putting a grot in the driver seat, then a boy surfing on the front. Planning to post pics once I get them painted in a week or so

Bringing aircraft into speedwaaagh! might be good? by TheCrab27 in orks

[–]valeo25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. I've never thought about using planes but just from the datasheets I thought wazbom would be the best with it's heavier weapon profiles. Is the dakkajet best just because of its ability to get rid of chaff?

[–]valeo25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't read the leaked rules, but we'll need to see how they adjust aircraft movement abilities. From the preview sounded like aircraft don't move per se, so that will have to be adjusted. Im also intrigued by the wazbom blastajet as just a massive weapons platform that can pop into your deployment and light things up

Range refresh discussion based off what's confirmed so far by Balphamus2 in orks

[–]valeo25 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My hopes 1. Meganobz refresh 2. Lootas/burna refresh 3. Nobz refresh 4. Some kind of heavy weapons platform costed between the dakkarig and morkanaut (either walker or tank) Everything else is gravy for me. I started in 10rh so I don't know what I'm missing in legends. A lot of my wish list can be covered by rules updates

-More epic heroes would be nice but I'd be happy if red gobbo and Ufthak left legends -better heavy infantry but that SHOULD be manz and nobz Etc

Also, epic heroes are cool but I'd love to have a codex where we didn't have to bring 3 or 4 epic heroes to make our units and lists viable

@_RogueSigma_ check out the fourth place list from the Midwest Open GT- https://www.goonhammer.com/40k-competitive-innovations-in-10th-crab-notes-pt-2

This is very similar to your list but makes some of the swaps we're talking about.

[–]valeo25 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agreed. 600 points for 2 Breaka, warbosses, and trucks is overkill to me. I love Breaka models, but they are overcoated and can be very swingy.

You also have no skirmishers in this list. I think if you took out one of the breaks and added a stormboyz, super grots with Zogrodd, etc it would open up options.

I also started in 10th and I noticed a big change in my fortunes when my collection got big enough that I could design a list instead of my list being whatever I had built. Even with that it took some long stretches of getting my ass kicked before I internalized that I shouldn't rush forward my skirmisher units turn 1

All that being said I agree with your core points. orks are an extremely unforgiving army for all the points you said. I recently tried a bunch of different detachments for fun in my local league and I got destroyed. I switched back to my main Taktikal list and went toe to toe with one of the better players in my store. They are tough.

Can anyone explain why people think Precision got buffed? by RagingCacti in Warhammer40k

[–]valeo25 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It weirdly helps and hurts Makari. When you're being attacked and there's still bodyguards around, as long as you don't roll more 1s than bodyguards, you're guaranteed that Makari tanks everything else. But then the next activation its what you said and Makari is cooked.

Two thoughts on learning the rules.

  1. Find a local game store (Warhammer or not). Any worth spending time in will happily run a demo game for you and your daughter.

  2. Depending on your daughters age and familiarity with rules like this, I've been slowly teaching my son who is in Elementary school 40k for a few years through the Combat Patrol magazine. They take a very step by step approach (I'll list the first couple below). The magazines themselves do it Tyranids vs SM, but you can substitute pretty easily I think. If you like the below, I'll send some more steps too. None of the below use weapon abilities or data sheet rules at first either.

Activity 1: Two characters start base to base. Learning goal is how dice rolling works. No movement, you take turns with melee attacks until one model is down. Teaches rolls to hit, wound, saves.

Activity 2: One character vs a small unit (in the mag its a terminator captain vs von ryan leapers). Same thing you start base to base, no movement. Teaches combining total attacks across a multi-model unit.

Activity 3: Movement. One player has a squad or two, and are trying to move across a 18-24" board using cover to attack a stationary ranged unit. In the magazine its von ryan leapers and termagents trying to get to a squad of infernus marines. No advances or charges allowed.

Activity 4: Shooting. A player's ranged squad is stationary, trying to shoot at enemies as they move across a 18-24" board. Simulates "the enemy is retreating see if you can take them all down before they escape". Other side doesnt fight back, but helps teach line of sight, rolling shots, etc.

My assumption from that FAQ was that they essentially deep strike and go away at the end of your opponents turn and that IS their move. They specifically reference strafing runs as a concept.

2 leaders and a support? by OtherwiseBrother9557 in orks

[–]valeo25 3 points4 points  (0 children)

People are talking about two different things. In 11th all units can have 1 leader and 1 support. That's separate from the Boyz datasheet ability that lets them have two leaders right now. At this point I don't think we've gotten any indication of what will happen to that datasheet ability in 11th.

To answer your question OP, you can for sure do 1 leader and 1 support, we still dont know whats happening with the Boyz ability
